Set up a domain name to redirect to my Facebook group "Walking with Rich" and it's not working. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Rich,
Having never had this sort of request from any of my clients, I Google searched " can I redirect a domain to a Facebook group" (without the quotation marks, of course) ... and after reading what steps were offered elsewhere (on someone else's hosting), I have adjusted the steps for you... as follows:
1.) Copy your destination Facebook group URL.
2.) Create a file in NotePad with the following 2 lines of script:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ add_Facebook_group _URL_here/$1/ [L,R=301]
Be careful to NOT add spaces or ANY other unnecessary character to that script.
3.) Then rename that NotePad file to .htaccess in place of the .txt file extension.
4.) Now, upload the .htaccess file to your domain that you want to redirect to your Facebook fan page, using your FTP access.
5.) Test to see this works.
If this does NOT work... be prepared to remove that .htaccess file before making any further attempts.
Hope you find this works, as I know it works when used to redirect from one domain to another.
Please, let me know how you make out with this.
Just be sure to add YOUR Facebook group URL where shown in the script WITHOUT adding ANY extra spaces or characters beyond the actual URL.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a WP membership or subscription plug in?
G'day Rico. I use the "Easy Sign-up Plugin" It uses E-Mail signup and redirection to another URL (If needed) You can use it for collecting e-mail addresses for a newsletter, or leads to a sales site, before redirecting to a brochure or offer, for downloading.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for exactly, but if it was for a subscription service, then it will do the job.
Hi Rico,
I have used Wishlist Member (http://member.wishlistproducts.com) in the past and never had any issues with it.
* Tons of features
* Easy to setup
* Great support
At the end of the day, it is based on your needs such as:
* drip feed content
* different levels of membership
* merchant compatibility
* subscription length
* etc.
And if the potential membership plugin is compatible with your needs.
Once you has assessed this, then look at reviews.
Hope this helps,
Jay
Hey Michael...
Wondering if you have experience with either of those and give them high marks? I have a long list of plugins, but looking for a recommendation based on experience.
Thanks!
R
Check out Buddy Press and you can also do a search for "membership plugins" and read reviews for others to find one that is suitable for you.
Thanks, CJ. At first blush, I couldn't find it. Can you shoot me a link? Also, with that in mind, a search tool should be handy for your site. :)
Best...

The first website I built was for my friend Dave. How do I move it from WA so he can manage it and answer his own emails. The site is starting to get a lot of emails, and it's a
Great question and great answers. Just about to get into something this question helps with exactly. Thanks and keep crushin it! Blessings..
Yes Talk to support. When I have shifted from one host to another, I needed the second host DSN? numbers for the new host. Then you go to where you bought the domain and change the DSN there to point to the new host.
However Roc, I will say this. If you sign into that WP site, there is a place where you add another admin from the site itself. That would be where you put your friends name. Then it gives you a special sign in code directly to the site for that person. You give them full admin rights, They don't sign into WA. They would go directly into the site. That way they start making their own changes. If that person wants to move the site to another host, then you follow the support process and spin them off. Part of the issue is whether or not you want to retain the domain name or not. That is something you would have to change at the place of purchase of the domain itself.
It's something to think about. If you like the domain and site, and the person is not too too skilled, you may want to keep the ownership of the domain and the hosting but just give them admin rights in the site like I suggested up above. That way if the person can't move it forward or quits, you still have ownership of the works. If they can handle it all and you want completely out, then you move the host and change the ownership of the domain. In this case, he would have to have an account at the place of purchase of the domain plus his own hosting account for you to make the changes to the DSN. Is this helpful?
Perfect. Yes, very helpful. Thanks so much for this very detailed response. Your one of the reasons WA is a great place.

There's more to it, though. You need to back up the entire site and move the files to the new host. If you have ftp access, I don't think so with WA, some hosts like Host Gator will move the entire site for you if you give them the ftp logins.
But if you just go directly to the domain name/wp-login.php your friend can bypass WA and directly log into the site. From there you can change the admin email, email for any forms, etc. Then there isn't really a need to move the site.
Hello! I'm actually thinking about doing this and I've contacted support but they told me I needed to ask in the live feed...obviously that didn't help me much. Do you know where I can find exact instructions on how to move and other host suggestions? Need help!
does your friend have a WA membership? Maybe you should lead him to this and redirect the e-mails to his personal e-mails....This site will help him in managing the whole thing!
Thanks, Biker. Good thought, but you'd have to know the guy. It'll probably never happen.

PS... I hit your follow button before I read your profile. All it took was your handle. :)
Why not give him the login details for the site?
It would only be for the domain not WA itself, and he could move it elsewhere if he wishes later on.
I'll leave the long term solution to the experts, but as far as emails are concerned, could you temporarily redirect all emails to him? In the WA site manager, you can forward an email to anyone. That would provide immediate relief for you. Just a thought
Should be easy. Go to the sit manager. This might be the right move because if you built it he might ask you to fix things later. Having it here might be easier for you. Just reroute the email
You would need to have an account with whatever host this site is to be moved to. Search how they want you to move the domain and change the nameservers, like you did to get it here.
Yes Michelle hit it right on the head.
The same instructions you used to direct your website to WA hosting. It's basically the same steps, but to a different hosting site..
