I had posted this under the comments of a recent webinar on images for your website, but have not received any replies and therefore thought to make it an official question!
Thank you for the responses, they have been a big help!
The only thing nobody has commented on is what "not altering" an image actually means, thoughts?
Correct. No altering means that you're not allowed to modify them in any case and therefore have to use "as is". :)
Here's a training showing you different ways how to credit the author of an image. Many free images require an author courtesy.

Hope this helps.
All the best.
The "caption" associated with an image in WP is what will be displayed under an image.
From what I've read, if you want to provide attribution you should at least give the creator name (your point 1), where you got the image (flickr, for example), and the type of license (CC BY SA 2.0, for example), rather than linking to the license.
I've adopted the following format, which may or may not include the title of the image, to place in the caption area:
<title optional> [
One thing I'm unsure about is whether the image has to be allowed for commercial use. I always play it safe and make sure that the images I use allow commercial use.
It;s also alright to credit the photographer at the bottom of the content of your page, in the same way.

How do I correctly and legally give credit for images?

I have this same question and just happen to find this searching for something else. I was thinking of creating a photo credit page and use thumbnals with a link to the person flicker profile, my images are from flicker creative commons but wasn't sure how to set up the page. Iam going to read the others anseres here. Glad I found this and thanks for asking this question

I asked a question and posted it to the Everything Wordpress Classroom, but didn't get any answers. So, it's been a week and I thought I'd post again in this classroom. Can an
Have you selected your image in the social settings tab of All in One SEO? A lot of times, you can't post to FB unless you fill this in. Scroll down from the edit window, past comments and you will see "All in One SEO Pack." Under that are two tabs, "Main Settings" and "Social Settings." Select Social Settings. You should see the images in your post. Click the button for the one you want. Make sure you update your post. Then it should display correctly. Hope this helps.
Thank you! This fixed the yahoo issue. After more research it looks like LinkedIn just has it's own problems... I read that a lot of people are having thumbnail issues and that All in One SEO Pack is not the issue.
I don't know for sure. Did you try WP help? If no one has answered you in over a week, maybe this isue hasn't happened to anyone else here. Have you googled Thumbnail issues? Just a couple of things I thought of. You posed your question very well BTW. I do hope I've given some help. :-) Jon
Thanks. I tried WP help first to no avail. And thanks to Carlalves, I have now fixed the yahoo issue. The LinkedIn issue appears to be their site's problem and nothing I can fix myself.

Thanks for that question. I don't have an answer, but I'll wait for others to add their comments. I am interested in knowing too!
I ended up creating another question in the Website Development & Programming Classroom and received answers that were helpful. Check out the link at the bottom of this question to get there.
