Hi,

I'd like to install the SMF package using FTP onto a new site I created.

When I launch FileZilla and connect to the site in question, I was unable to create a di

Get another host for that.

Cheers Werner, I actually have an account with GoDaddy so can easily bring that particular domain under them for this purpose.

Out of interest, do you know why there is no cPanel access at WA, as most web hosts provide that as standard?

Nic

Nope

WA hosting is a multi-user WP site. MA sites do not have cPanel access because you do not own the primary site. Most people do not know what cPanel is or how to use it. WA is great for them, but if you want full control of your website you will need a host like NameCheap, Blue Host or GVO. GoDaddy uses their own proprietary version of WP, has continuous upsells and IMO is hard to work with.

I use APlus; a Canadian host, even though I'm in the U.S. Their support is incomparable and I went over to them after using Hostmonster - crappy support, Hostgator, fair support, GoDaddy, nuts, and a couple of other hosts. They have their own version of cPanel, but if you're confused they'll just fix things for you.

The way I see it you only have two options: use a plugin or use a different host. If you email me I can send you my affiliate link for HostGator, they have cPanel and SMF via QuickInstall, (marion@marionblack.co). For my way of thinking better to stick with WA for hosting and the WordPress platform with a plugin. ~Marion

No Cpanel on WA hosting, so I doubt you'd be able to install any forum software. WA is limited to a WordPress installation.

Cheers Ian, I was just going to say [to Marion] that I don't want a plugin, I would like to install SMF in its own right into a folder called, for example forum. But with no CPanel access that could prove tricky. What about FTPing the software into a directory? We do have FTP access!

Nic

You could upload the files. But you're still going to have to create a database. And without PHPMyadmin access that might be tricky.

My first reaction was 'WTF is SMF?' so I Googled it and found that it's open source software for a forum website. So then I went to wordpress.org and looked for a forum plugin there are plenty to choose from. If you're using WordPress on your website then you don't use open source software you need a plugin. I hope this helps. ~Marion

Hey, thanks Marion - I'll take a look.

My first thought was, this one is for Marion:)

Hi WA'ers,

I hope you're having a great day so far.

I'm planning to create some videos for reviews and tutorials shortly and am looking at the various microphones av

I normally use a headphone with a mic, but maybe because I am always on the go so with a attached mic to a headphone I can lie bring them anywhere.

I use a simple Logitech webcam C260 and I'm happy with it.

Cheers Ron. I'll check it out.

Blue-tooth is best, USB next but don't ever invest in a plug-in mic. ~Marion

Bluetooth, really? I'll look into that, thanks Marion. Could you elaborate on why you would not invest in a plug-in mic - I assume you are referring to the USB Audio interface whereby you connect an XLR cable compatible mic?

No, USB is good and that's what I use, but mine is just a cheapie from eBay. By plug-in mic I'm referring to one that plugs into the pink socket which is attached (on the inside of your computer) to your sound card. They're the ones to stay away from. You may need a blue-tooth headphone/mic set if you want blue-tooth but I'm no expert.

Ahh yes, I see what you're saying! Merci ;-)

I use the micro phone off of my cam. If you gave a cam on your computer it comes with a mic. Why waste the money.

Thanks Tommy. I know the camera/mic option would be the cheapest but I don't think that option would offer the best sound experience.

Check out my videos the sound is ok for me. But then I have a creative cam with high input mic

Hey guys, what's up?

I was in Jaaxy working with keywords and I discovered that I'm ranked in Google (Page 1, position 1) for the keyword "targeted traffic internet market

Search in the Netherlands

Pagina 3 van ongeveer 3.370.000 resultaten (0,48 seconden)
Page 3 of 3.370.000 results (0.48 seconds)

Attract Targeted Traffic Through Internet Marketing Forums
http://scamboxer.com/attract-targeted-traffic-through-inter...

I just typed in your keyword and I found you on page 3. Olive

Tommy Dillard has the correct answer.

I checked it in another tool and get Position 51. See it here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/12zhoakhpglf3vh/keywordposition.png

If you were logged in to Gmail, YouTube, Webmaster Tools - or using Chrome, or visited your own site a few times, Google will give a personalized result higher than it would be for anyone else doing the search.

You can check the position in Google Webmaster Tools for the average position of each keyword. Click on your domain name, and go to Search > Search queries.

Click on the filters tab in the data area. In the blank field next to "contains", insert your keyword/s. Then select "Web", and, "all locations" and "all urls".

If you want to hone results to searches emanating from the UK, you can select United Kingdom as a filter.

P.S. I was able to get a Page 1 result when I searched for your term with word "attract" in front of it. (attract targeted taffic internet marketing forums). It appears on Page 1, Position 10 out of 446,000 results. ~Jude

If you are signed into your Google account in Chrome your results will be skewed. If you are testing your own results make sure you either log out of your account before performing your test searches, or perform them in Incognito Mode.

P.S. When I search your keyword, with no quotes, I see you exactly at the 51st position!

because you put the " " on the search in google it will always come up in the number one spot in google

I don't think he put the quotation marks in, at least not according to the image he has posted. ~Jude

I am sure he did, but that is just what I get from his post here

I just did a search and you're on page 4.

Nicky, search it in incognito and see where you are.

I simply typed in the keyword as you see in the screenshot, no quotes, and my site appeared in position one, on page one. And still does. Would it make any difference me been in the UK?

Not sure how you performed your Google search, but I show you on page 6 in Google as of now.
