Legally Use Pop Music in your Videos
Hi,
I wanted to share with you this little tip I found out about recently.
When uploading a popular song to YouTube, you may be allowed to use it in your video, or you may not depending on what the rights are attached to it.
For example, if I wanted to have Blank Space by Taylor Swift play in the background to a video I create, it would be muted or removed as it is not available for use.
Enya's Orinoco Flow on the other hand, is available for use (but you can't monetize it).
Head over to YouTube's Audio Library at youtube.com/audiolibrary, select the tab Ad-supported music, type in the name of the song in the search box and scroll down the list until you find the one in question. Then click on the link and it will give you the information you need, including whether it is possible to monetize it or not.
Hope you find this useful.
Nic

Thanks NickyB for mentioning it! As artists, we are happy when people like our songs enough to use it in their creative work! (Not to mention when we do get some royalties for it :-) )
Thank you, so much! This is incredibly useful to me! I have to do vehicle 'walk-arounds' which are BORING, so I try to spice them up with current music.
Oh and the song Problem by Ariana Grande (still in the charts, I believe) is available for use but will not play in Germany.
Thanks, but the title 'Problem' wouldn't make people exactly want to run out and buy a car ;)
Ursa, that was just an example of a song that is still in the charts and that has hardly any copyrights attached to it.
