A friend of mine uses a hosting service that offers a pretty good affiliate program. Is it ok to do a review on this service and promote it as an affiliate using client reviews

Absolutely do it from your WA affiliate site. You want to write reviews on many different products. It would be a great addition to your site
Absolutely. I get happy just thinking about a check from hostgator. I set up blogs (at no charge) for people who sign up for hostgator hosting through my affiliate link.

Hey Melissa,
In many cases as an affiliate it's usually better to have used the product or service yourself. I know various members here have different opinions about that, which is cool.
But to be honest, several of the big name hosting companies offer the same features as it is a hugely cutthroat service. So it boils down to price and customer service. In your case, it's perfectly acceptable to ask your friend what he or she thinks of the service and use that as the basis for your review.
Most of the hosting services payout a pretty big chunk for their affiliate program so if you can make it work that you'll get some good commissions.

I second what bazboy247 has said. If you're experiencing problems with spam I suggest that you install akismet, it's helpful for eliminating spam comments. One the other hand, if you have akismet already I wouldn't be too worried, as it does a good job at filtering junk.
The akismet plugin seems to take care of all the spam on my blog I don't get any spam comments any more since I used akismet
I have found that some spammers will write general comments that could be construed as being applicable to my page. They will be the same comments with different websites that they are trying to get linked. Generally, if Akismet flags them as spam it is because it was automated in some way. Sometimes if the spam is close in topic, I will take out the link they have placed with the comment and allow it to post.
Actually, I thought of that too. But wasn't sure if you could take out the links and just approve the comment. That was gonna be my next question. Thanks.

putting the link in the body of any message is just bad manners and spammy.
WP comments box allows for the leaving of a URL, and more often than not it would be natural for that URL to be to a deeper content-related page and it will give the blog owner the chance to vet it and approve it.
Chancers, frauds.
Bin and report as spam.

Every so often you need to take a look at your spam comments. Spam comments usually want to sell you something or they want you to contact with personal information. Spam comments can be deleted.
Once in a while, a real comment will be classified as spam. You can approve and reply to the comment. Debbie

Some companies have an application process to become an affiliate to promote their products. Then there are affiliate networks that give you access to many different types of products within different niches.
Sure you can. I write negative reviews about products but still use my affiliate link. I figure if they're going to buy the product to spite me, I might as well get paid right? :)
This actually just happened to me the other day. I wrote an extremely negative review and I just checked my clickbank account and I made a $25 commission off it. You can have as many affiliate programs as you want on your site as long as they fit in with your niche.
