When I first started creating my site, I must have chosen a dynamic home page, which continually updates the "tiles" and is becoming more confusing than anything. I am wonderin

Hey, I have my blog set to Post. This is because of Google who sees I am updating my blog on a regular bases.

A static homepage can can shape your audience’s first impression of you, your brand, and your business. It can also quickly set the tone of your website - who you are, what your website is about, and the information that is helpful to visitors. You can have control of your visitors' journey from this point. And draw potential clients to information that can convert them.

A homepage that simply contains your recent blog posts, will lead new visitors to that latest blog post every time. It - the most recent blog post - will also be the first impression of your website. You will miss the opportunity to point out products or services you have to offer. Sure, these items can be found in your menu.

But if a visitor is new and doing a quick scan, the static homepage with useful & helpful information as a guide to the website is more attractive. Also, visitors may tend to skip over menu. As such, a bright call to action on your homepage directing them to what is essential is a better choice.

If you aren’t blogging for business, displaying blog posts makes a whole lot more sense than a static homepage since your posts are what people are coming for in the first place. Even then, there are bloggers who will still choose a static homepage and use that to point visitors to their best or hottest blog posts.

That's perfect. Thank you T!!

My pleasure :)

Thanks. I had preregistered for it but ended up having to leave so couldn’t participate. I’m going to catch the replay though

I have mine set to posts only, not static home page, because every time you post it refreshes your blog and tells google your blog is updated

I personally decided to have a static homepage and a blog roll apart that can be found on my top menu. I don't know if it's better or not. But it's a question of personal choice for me.

I was trying to figure out how you could have dynamic homepage. Is it the theme features provided that option? I guess it is - which is kind of great features.

I am wondering if it might be the theme, also if some themes offer the choice or not. A month and a half in since I started here and continually learning. I am using the Toto theme, and currently looking for something a bit more clean. I said it seems cluttered, but I think 'bulky' would be a better term for it.

Do you have the site url for the theme?

I think it looks that way due to the theme, may be you should change it. What you can do is change to other theme and see if it is theme problem.

I was always informed that it is better to have your blog roll as your landing page as opposed to a static page.

This way, it is always seen to be being updated...

After saying that .. I know a lot of people who have static home pages... and they are doing quite fine..

I guess a lot of it comes down to personal preference.

Just my opinion.

Thanks

Chris

Perhaps it may be the theme I'm using. I'm going to experiment with some others to try and make it seem a little more organized. Thanks Chris!

my pleasure :)
