What Does Ambassador Mean
OK, first of all, please don't blame me for the picture. There wasn't too much to choose from for ambassador, and I didn't think I should use the REALLY cute puppy dogs.
I had actually wanted to write something different but someone beat me to the topic. It got me to thinking though, what does ambassador mean?
It actually has 2 definitions in the dictionary. The second definition seems to be why Kyle and Carson chose it to use here in Wealthy Affiliate.
I don't mean in general. I mean, what does ambassador mean HERE in Wealthy Affiliate? Does it mean you are POPULAR? No, trust me I am definitely not popular.
Does it mean you know EVERYTHING? No, But it NORMALLY means that you do have a good bit of knowledge.
Ambassador
According to the dictionary the second meaning of ambassador is: a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity.
"He is a good ambassador for the industry"
What I think an ambassador here is and should be on the ambassador list
1. Helper- helping others because you want you know what it is like to not understand something, or not know how to do it.
The ones that are helping others JUST to get a higher level of rank or to hold the ambassador title, should not be there. Yes, this happens, unfortunately.
2 Creator- In order to be an ambassador, you need to be a creator as well. This means constantly writing post for your website and writing post here that will help and inspire others or that will share your experience etc.
3. Promoter- this is the big one. You should be actively promoting WA. No, it doesn't have to be your only focus, but you should still be promoting it. After all, isn't it the reason you are where you are?
4. Active- being active means you are not only helping others, but that you are engaging with other members as well. Reading their blogs or training and commenting your thoughts on them.
I know there is no way that we can comment on every person's blog. We can't even comment on just those that we follow or who follow us as.
Many of us who have been here for a while, may have hundreds/thousands of followers and members that we follow.
I think that you should meet the criteria for all of these that WA looks at to become an ambassador.
I Am An Ambassador
Yes, I am an ambassador. I got here without trying to get here. How? By doing the following.
1. I help others because I have always enjoyed doing it. When I first started with WA there were so many members who came to my rescue every time that I needed help.
I absolutely love being there to help someone that is confused, lost or discouraged. Because I was there and sometimes, I still go through those emotions.
2. I write post for my site constantly. If we don't, how will our site make it to success. I have slacked the last couple of months, but I am still creating content and I try to regularly post here in WA.
3. I promote the S#$t out of Wealthy Affiliate. I believe in it. My audience is those that are NOT able to work outside their home. They are who I want to help at this time.
I want them to see that there is hope for them. They may not can change the circumstances as to why they can not work outside their home, but they don't have to just accept it. There are options and I want to show them that.
4. I am active here most of the time, all day every day. Even when I am on the go, I am here or doing something for my website.
Like now, I am headed to the homecoming parade. My daughter is in every parade. I will have my cell with me. Like I do when I am not home. I work using it and my tablet.
And now I am back. I didn't get this published before I had to leave. So now to finish it.
There Are Others More Deserving
The post I had planned on doing was about 3 individuals whom most of us know and appreciate.
I have watched 2 of them lose their spots as ambassador and it actually gripes my butt to see it.
Not because others don't deserve to be there, but because others DON’T deserve to be there. Well I need to rephrase that, I am the one that doesn't deserve to be there. Not when there are at least 3 more deserving members who aren't there.
I don't deserve to be there. I have actually let mine go down. But I can not stop doing the things I love to do, or the things I need to do.
I could only dream of having the knowledge that they have. They meet the ambassador guidelines and then some.
They were all there to help when their expertise was needed. I don't believe there has been a
time that a member needed them and they didn't respond.
But, that is what brought this post on. You know who they are. Go visit their profiles, give some likes and leave some comments.
I share their links to training as much as I can and will continue to do so. I even as the member to be sure and click the like button and leave a comment if they found it helpful.
Yeah I know it sounds like a rant. I reckon it sort of is. Then again, I teach my girls to stand up for what they believe in, because I stand up for what I believe in. And that is what I am doing.
Why is there only 25 when there is 1.4 million members? Kyle, Carson and Jay could be the kings or something and leave room for 3 other ambassadors : )

Don't sell yourself short, you got where you are because you earned it!
I answer questions when I can and help when I think I have information that someone may find useful. But I put as much of my time as I can into getting my website going and haven't created any training and rarely post. I appreciate more than you know how you and others take the time to step up and be active!
When my family and business demands slow down a bit, I hope to be a member who adds as much to the community as you all do.
I think there are more than 25 who really deserve the Ambassador designation and hope everyone gets the recognition they're due!

I don't use big fancy words or right with intelligent words. But then I said "to heck with it, if they don't like the way I write or what I have to say, they don't have to read it".

I didn't realise that you weren't popular, perhaps that is your opinion.
Any time that I have needed some assistance for whatever reason you have provided that in spades.
I agree that an Ambassador has a role to play, and should be setting an example, I guess that is why you are there.
I believe there are quite a few who deserve to be in the top 25 and Ambassadors, which is why when you get there it is such an achievement.
I believe there should be some recognition for the efforts of those special few who get to the top 25, however, any one in the top 100 should be taking on some form of Ambassadorial "duties".

Ambassador is a tough role to follow. I just wanted to give my point of view.
Most of them are there for what they do, and because they do it to help others. Not for the title or rank.
But then you see others with a one or two word comment, clicking the like button on everything, giving an answer to something from 2 days ago, that had been answered more than once etc.
If I fall off and lose my rank, I am ok with that and will not change what I currently do.
Like you said, there are many that deserve it. The top 100 definitely should be taking on the duties.
I think what makes it "unfair" is that you can excel in one are and fail in another and still be ranked higher.

You are totally right being yourself and helping others regardless of the title.
I have not been involved as much which I know I could. I am still looking for the balance of time in learning and active writing posts for my website. I look forward to find that sweet balance spot where I can contribute and make serious cash at the same time like many successful WA members here.

I actually felt so guilty seeing deserving members falling off and I was still there.
I just can't stay away from the community here. It is like an addiction. I love being able to help others, and to engage with them.
I don't let my website suffer just to be active here either.
I am REALLY glad to see Marion back.
I don't feel as stressed since she is back and Loes is climbing back up : )

My Question yesterday laid out a way where there could be Ambassador Gold for those who have been an Ambassador for a good period of time. Kings is good also.
I feel if you can maintain helping others for as long as they have you deserve a spot as Ambassador Gold or King
I don't feel Ambassador Gold shouldn't require anything to stay there because I wouldn't want to see people gaining that position and then just not helping anymore. So there should be some metrics applied there as well. But once there you should be given some grace as it would be a feat to maintain the Ambassador for the defined period in order to achieve Gold.
And the Gold Ambassador should not have any limit to how many can become one. This way as our Ambassadors earn the Gold it opens up the other to new Ambassadors.
There may be a better way and I'm sure Kyle and Carson will figure it out. They have already talked about it in another comment on a post so I'm sure it will be forthcoming.

My sentiments exactly about the length of time that they have held that spot.
They held it from helping others. We both know how much training Mariona has done, as well as Loes.
The information they give us, Loes with the graphics and banners, everything that she creates and shares with us.
I know I don't deserve to be there. Once they change the ranking system, I will be ok with losing my rank.
I contribute to the community, but no where near the level of sharing knowledge that others have to share.
I might someday : )

Very well said...I like your definition of Ambassador....those that promote and represent the company...and help others along the way. Fortunately for us there are way more than 25 in this community!
