A Shock with a Happy Ending
I had not planned to write anything these coming weeks but something happened just some hours ago which will be important for everybody
I was happily downloading some free photos for my next post when suddenly my screen went funny. In the middle opened a big window telling me the following :
Window informs you that a virus has been detected by the name of ZEUS.
Do not close your computer. Call technical assistance under the telephone number of 911239217, that should be a number in Madrid, and tell these people the following code........ Don't close the computer as files might be lost etc...........
I did not call that number, just as well, I called my friends in the computer shop not far away from my home. I was told to close the computer and come as soon as possible, this I did. I was told that more people had this problem, he fixed it in about 10 min.
If I had called that number I would have been in trouble.

No, Eric, I was innocently downloading photos from free great pictures and then it suddenly happened. In the computer shop, they only said they had seen this virus Zeus more often lately.

Well, It could have been integrated into the picture. I heard, this is easy to do but not easy to discover.
Now the good news in all of this is that statistically seen you don't have to worry about viruses for a loooong time. :)

Taetske, what an awful experience. Scams can be very disturbing. I'm so pleased you were able to get support from your computer friends.

Same thing happened to me.
When I clicked on the Google icon to open Google, a picture of a male came on my screen. (He looked like he worked in a computer headquarters office. )
A voice said that my computer was being used by unwanted visitors and all my personal information was being accessed.
I was to call a phone number ...within a short period of time. I was told to not do another thing with my computer until I called that number.
I was also told that my computer would be locked out in minutes and I would not be able to access my computer if I did not call that number right away.
I contacted my computer support person and I was told that it was a scam.
Nasty stuff!!!!

I'm glad to hear this. Same thing I would have done. Fortunately two of my sons have cued me into these things and you're quite smart. We'll survive!:)))
Ya, I know it is a shock when that happens. With my computer that is Linux software, I am 99.9 % clear of all viruses and Trojans. I did get this kind of call and it spooked me, knowing that they can't touch me. But sure sent shivers up my spine.
I shut everything down about 5 minutes then turn it back on again, I have telephone calls that come in and they are scammers what work off of Windows Microsoft.
I tell them to get there information right because I don't have Microsoft.
I thank the heavens every day because I have not had to pay for any Microsoft programs to clean up my computer. I am free from hight techs that are making big bucks off the little guy. I am free from Windows upgrades. I am free from uploads that are costly. Everything that I have that works just great, are Linux products and are totally free.
