What do we want in our Ambassadors?

Last Update: May 10, 2018

Hi WA Peeps,

I have been pondering this for a while now as there have been quite a few posts of late about Ambassadorship; not all ambassadors created equal - different people bringing different things to the table etc. These posts about Ambassadorship are all very interesting and it got me thinking about the behaviors and traits I personally value in our Wealthy Affiliate Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are volunteering their time and energy to helping others on this platform and this is something that needs to be acknowledged and appreciated by other members.

That said, here's what I personally hope to see in a member who has achieved WA Ambassador status:

  • They are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the WA platform
    • That doesn't mean that they are at our beck and call to dish out sage words of wisdom and hand feed us the answers, rather that they can confidentially point us in the RIGHT direction if we get stuck
  • They are a successful affiliate in their own right
    • or... if they are still in the early stages of their business, they can demonstrate tangible wins they have had by following the WA training
    • Their business doesn't have to be based around the WA bootcamp model, it could be in any niche
  • A great Ambassador is active on the platform with USEFUL blog updates, training and a helping hand in chat
  • They are generous with their knowledge and embrace the pay it forward culture that I love about Wealthy Affiliate
  • If an Ambassador receives a PM with a question that would benefit others, they are comfortable in 'pushing back' and inviting the person to ask the question publicly so they can provide a response that everyone can read and learn from.
    • I am sure that Ambassadors get bombarded with questions, so this may be a more effective way to manage some of that, rather than trying to answer every message in detail personally?
  • Ambassadors contribute to the development of new, interesting and RELEVANT training on this platform
  • Ambassadors are given the opportunity to provide feedback and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of this wonderful platform that we all use

A Big Shout Out...

I'd like to extend a huge congratulations to Jerry Huang, who has made the status of Ambassador today. Jerry embodies all of the qualities that I have mentioned above and is absolutely deserving of the role of Ambassador.

Jerry has also just released a new training here on WA which is fantastic and well worth checking out https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/wa-bootcamp-hacks-h...

Thank you to Jerry and all the other current and past Ambassadors for your contribution here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are hugely appreciated!

What do you think?

What qualities do you value in our Ambassadors?

I'd love to hear your comments and thoughts below.

Cheers, Karen

Well said Karen. You forgot to mention that almost all Ambassadors are VOLUNTEER Ambassadors.
Members need to understand that because they are VOLUNTEERS that Ambassadors have the right to pick and choose their own level of personal involvement.
Otherwise well said.

An ambassador needs to be gracious and happy to help point in the right direction. Attitude is everything. I think the ambassadors on this platform do a great job.

It requires a lot of patience and a willingness to answer the same thing hundreds of times. As a computer teacher, I know this because I've been getting asked the same questions, over and over, for 20 years.

Not everyone is cut out for it. I think it's important for the person to know who they are and what they are willing to bring to the table when they take on a responsibility like that.

Great Post.
To me an ambassador needs to be able to direct an individual to the material they need to make their site better, they must be approachable and want to help.

I am not sure what's valued anymore to achieve and keep the ambassador status.

Hi Loes, that's a worry, as you are definitely one of the Ambassadors I look up to! When you become an ambassador are the expectations laid out for you? Cheers, Karen

No, there are no expectations. But I can see from the current list, that a lot of referrals is counting heavy.

Hi Loes, thanks for that feedback, I think this is a good thing? Do you? Cheers, Karen

No, not really.

Hi Loes, I guess it comes back to the second point I made which was...
I value our Ambassadors because they are... "They are a successful affiliate in their own right" (regardless of whether they are promoting WA or not).
Very interesting that you are seeing more importance being placed on referrals.
Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Karen

I believe Ambassadors should be there for the whole community, and not only to become an ambassador by serving solely their own referrals.

Hi Loes, I totally agree, but hadn't picked that up in your first comment. (SERVING their own referrals?)

I thought you meant that the ranking system to become an ambassador placed more emphasis on how many referrals a member had. In my mind, that's very slightly different to supporting and serving referrals once that member has gone premium.

Interesting discussion tho!

When you have a lot of referrals you get tasks, that's when your referral has placed a help question or something. You answer that and you score. And I am not saying they are lazy. No, on the contrary, they are very helpful, but they get paid to be helpful. I value people with a few, or even no referrals, much more. They help people who are not their own referrals, and they do this selflessly and with enthusiasm. I think that the help to your own referrals should be separated from the points you can gain for the ambassadorship.
