Don't be half arsed when commenting on sites, you are missing out on opportunities.

Great comments create great backlinks which in turn brings you traffic to your own site.

I see on both my own and other peoples sites comments such as - "Gret content, thank you", or "Very good post keep up the good work". These are of not much value to the persons website and absolutely zero value your own.

When you comment on someones site, you will be asked to type in your URL or website. So if you leave a really good comment that adds value to the post, other people will notice maybe even comment, and may even click your URL and visit your own site.

I know myself I have been guilty of leaving crappy comments back when I was a WA newbie but eventually got into the habit of reading through the content and coming up with a good comment. I know many of you may not be familiar with the subject at hand on a particular site, but at least give it a try because a crap comment aint much good to nobody. I mean no disrespect to anyone, I'm just trying to help out.

Which brings me to an other issue. Some people give quick comments both here on WA and on sites just to gain WA ranking. A good example is people commenting on a members question with something like "Sorry I can't help you with this one". What is the point of this? You are actually doing more harm then good in doing this because by not answering properly, the persons question is being taken away from the unanswered section of WA and may go unanswered properly if that person has a small network of WA friends.

WA ranking will do absolutely no good for you if you are not doing something that is not beneficial to the members here, otherwise you are just wasting valuable time Shawn Martin hits the nail on the head really good on this subject https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/shawn-martin/blog/your-wa-rank

I will admit I use to feel I had a personal obligation to get my rank up, but through time I learned the right way to do things and thanks to a few guys here at WA.

Anyway sorry if I rambled on, but I hope I helped some of you guys out.

Jason.

This is some good information except I have noticed that if a url is typed in, It usually goes straight to the spam folder.

I agree with this blog completely. The folks asking for your review are asking for constructive criticism. That is what you should give. I try to click on every site in the menue; every element on the sidebars ; every banner; and every embedded link. If they work that is great and I say so. If they don't work I tell them that too. This way, they can correct any problems. I am not much of an English major,. So I tend to stay away from critiquing the content. It has really helped me when folks are honest with their reviews.

This is something we have to be more serious about. Many times we write comments or anything of that nature without deeply thinking about it, and this pricks me. As a newbie, I have to do right things has you have stated, so that when I get to that point; I will not regret it. Thanks for sharing. It's absolutely awesome!

This is an unusually good post that all of us should find of strong interest - and act upon if necessary. Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

Glad you wrote this as well as you did. Bad comments are near useless for both sides. You'll surely not interest anybody reading.

A bad post will probably be edited along with your website address removed. (especially if your website isn't relevant to the content)

Helpful comments go a long way for everyone. A positive vibe goes a long way!

Very True! So, how long did it take you to "learn the right way to do things"?

I'm still learning lol

People will do what people will do.

Great points you make here about website comments.

As far as comments here at WA, I do leave short to the point messages all the time because of exactly that, time. To do it for rank is crazy, I would never get anything done, lol.

I have left many a message on the wa comments even though I could not help because I did not know the answer but the reason for commenting is to add myself to the tread so I can see the answers. I have learned huge amounts of information doing this

I usually say that is why I am commenting in the comment.

Good post!

Shawn, instead of commenting to follow the thread, you can bookmark the page, leave the page open in your browser, or even like the question. To comment when you don't have an answer does not help the person to get their question answered, since it marks the question as being unanswered. Doing one of the above actions I have suggested will enable you to learn, AND enable folks who do have an answer to help the person who posed the question. ;-)

That would leave way to many windows open, but I do like the idea of bookmarking the tread, another great idea here at WA.

This is a good topic. I've noticed that sometimes I have got comments sent to "spam" when they weren't from a spambot, but it was just a comment without any value along the lines of "great post". Sometimes I have read something but haven't really been able to make a great comment, but still try to at least take something out of the article and some what paraphrase what was said. If I was really stuck I would just not comment at all

This is a good point indeed: "You are actually doing more harm then good in doing this because by not answering properly, the persons question is being taken away from the unanswered section of WA and may go unanswered properly if that person has a small network of WA friends." I did something similar a few times in order to be involved and read comments which were interesting to me.

Well at least you would have read through the content. I once created a blog stating out a few facts and somewhere in the comments I read "Sorry I can't help you with this one", I hadn't asked any questions or even put any question marks on the post lol

LOL indeed!

I couldn't have expressed it better myself! Thanks Jason!
