Core “Business Start Up” Training

Hi, I went through a training which taught me about how important a Posting Schedule is to SEO. But I failed to learn if it is possible to change it while building up your site, fo

I've never really understood what people mean when they talk about Google ranking their site. Search engines rank pieces of content. I know people who have websites for their businesses and rarely ever post anything, yet pages on their sites rank highly.

As far as I understand it posts are ranked individually. You might have one post rank number 1 on Google for a keyword while another post never ranks.

I also know people who have very small niche sites promoting just one product. They make the site, then set and forget, never adding to it again; and some of these people do really well out of these sites. They still require a few pages of quality content, but not many.

I have seen these sites too, and I don't understand how they can rank so high with so little content. I guess it's because of relevant and quality content..

I think consistency is important. In terms of Google visiting your site and indexing it. If you are posting more regularly, it will visit more regularly (as I understand it!). Now I'm not sure how much you cutting down your posts would affect ranking or indexing but I think consistency is the key no matter how high/low your number of posts are. Erratic posting certainly won't help your ranking!

Hi Sarah, thanks a lot for answering! :)
Do you have any idea if google might not have been started ranking my site if I post all the 20 posts within 4 weeks, and then change to 1 per week?

They should do yes! And you can also index them through Goigle Webmaster Tools to help Google to find you too. I always do that every time I get a new post just to make sure as my schedule is only one post a week, thanks to time constraints!

Yeah, I heard it's really good for getting google to start ranking your post within hours of posting it instead of days. :)
Thanks again Sarah :)

I am far from any strict schedule, simply cannot find time to keep up. There are more than 200 factors which determine ranking. I am sure many of them are much more relevant. Just my thinking. Jovo

Hi Jovo, thanks for answering!
I didn't know there were so many factors determining google rankings, but thanks for sharing! :)

The reason I am asking the question is because I did this training: And from what I understand, it is quite important to have consistency. But as I don't have enough experience, I can only go on what I have been taught. I hope you get more time to keep up. :)

I guess it is important but Google will never say how much. It is guessing all the time. In any case, I cannot do anything about it. One alternative, which I am using in fact, are comments. Comments are new stuff on the site. By the way, I have about 30 pages on Google page 1, in spite of an irregular publishing schedule.

Jovo. That's good to know because I'm rather irregular too. One thing I do get is plenty of comments!

Hi Sarah, I have seen what Kyle was saying about comments, and the same in Jay's tutorials. Comments are new material, so it is good if you have them coming all the time.

Yeah, that's great to know, I thought it would mash up everything! Thanks for clarifying, Jovo :)

Yes Jovo - I remember reading or hearing in one of Kyles tutorials that he has a site that he never has time to add "content" to but maintains with healthy, high quality comments and his replies to those comments. I often do extra research in order to answer the questions intelligently and usefully! So hopefully this helps...!

I'm thinking of hiring a freelancer to write another blog (apart from my current one) to start growing faster. But when is the right time? Is it too early for me to hire one now

Well, if you can afford it, there's not much holding you back from doing it. However, the amount of success you'll have with it depends.

The more experience you have with writing, ranking, and making sales from articles, the more succesfull you'll be when outsourcing.
Someone with no experience will probably get articles written on topics that are impossible to rank for, and won't see the difference between good and bad writing.

Also, finding good writers, especially at $5 per 500 words, is going to take some effort.

In the end it's all about ROI, and that's harder to predict with less experience in online marketing, or when getting into a new niche. The less you know, the more of a gamble it'll be.

Then again, to really learn something, you have to fail at it a couple of times, so even if it doesn't work out, you have spent money on 'education' :)

Hi, Guido!
I'm trying to learn what "Good Quality Content" really is, but I'm just being told to write it, without knowing what it really is. Do you know any good trainings here at WA to learn what Quality Content really is? I've tried reading the beginners training again, but I don't really get HOW to write it, other than getting the content to help the visitor.

Thanks! :)

Well, there is this: and this: Make it easy to read and 'skim', as few spelling mistakes as possible, and indeed, help your visitor. Throwing in personal experience and a bit of humor helps too. All of that is easier said than done, off course.

I also recommend this: http://www.copyblogger.com/copywriting-101/ for some more information on good writing.

Thanks Guido, this was very helpful! :)

If you can afford it then why not do it. You can provide them with a title and keywords and like you said, if you don't like it they have to revise it.
Just remember, you get what you pay for. You may luck out and find a decent writer for $5 and article. Many also offer discounts for bulk orders.

Good tips Angela! I will try and have keywords researched and ready at disposal :)
Do you know what average price has been for you or for people you know, for good quality writers?
Thanks :)

Jonas

Good quality you are looking at $10 and above, but like I said - many give a discount for bulk orders. And the more you want them to do the more it will cost. That's why I suggested providing title and keywords and I would also find my own images to be safe.
I have done some freelance but I don't have time for it right now. You could PM JeanL who also commented here, I know she writes quality. But entirely up to you. :)

Doesn't matter which way you do it. I freelance for Fiverr and have my own services. I've seen people do it both ways. It depends how comfortable you are with it and how much time you want to spend on writing yourself.

Thanks, Jean! I'm still going to write myself, but I'm thinking of opening another blog that is run by a freelancer, just to get the ball running faster. At least, that is my idea :)

Good idea! PM me if I can help.

That's a great question, I would say that it depends on the quality received.

I have found a few people at Elance.com who seems to have done a good quality job for other customers. And it seems that you don't pay unless you are satisfied with the content.
But I'm still wondering if I should finish the training course before hiring one or if I should jump in the boat and just learn while I'm going?

Do you have any ideas?

Hi Frsken, how did it go with your ghost writers? Were you happy with their work? How much did you pay per article?

Hi Kams!
It is working great. I haven't used many of their posts yet. But I have built up a few so I have them ready if I don't get time to write.

It took some time before I actually found cheap writers who could deliver what I wanted.
Now I have 2 writers, one writing for $5 and one for $7 for 500 word posts.

Great, I`m glad it`s working for you! How did you go about finding the right writers?

Thanks Kams - There are different sites that offer help with that, but the ones I used was Elance.com and Upwork.com (but Elance will soon merged together with upwork.com) so just go with Upwork. :)

And if you do try out to get some help, please let me know how it goes or if you need any help!
