Page 1 = Introduction & Content Posting Schedule

Page 2 = Why is consistency important for SEO + Free Keywords

Page 3 = What I do for my website that works well

Page 4 = Consistency over quantity & More Free Keywords

Welcome back everyone to Part 2 of my “How to Improve Website Ranking” series, where I will be sharing various aspects of the plethora of ways to improve your website rankings. If you did not get to read Part 1 about the use of keywords and why Long Tail keywords are better to use, you should read that too, the link is below.

How to Improve Website Ranking 1 - How to Use Keywords

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

I am sure you have heard the saying, timing is everything? Well this holds true for your website too, especially when it comes to posting new content for the long haul. You may have heard some say that you should post content every day. But if you logically think about it, that is just not possible, let alone fun by any stretch of the imagination.

There is 365 days in a year, can you see yourself posting content every day? I know I cannot nor do I want to. I do have a life outside of my website content. So once all of your initial pages and posts have been added, what you need to come up with is a content posting schedule. This will help you to consistently post content going forward but not every day. Consistency is key, not quantity.

NEXT UP = Why consistency is important and when to start your schedule

Hello Rob,

I know it is a stupid question but I would be grateful if you could please resolve this doubt.

Say I would like to rank for "winter shoes" (just an example, not my niche): such a keyword phrase is very good for SEO but it means everything and nothing without a broader context.

I therefore have to incorporate it into my title, but I wonder: what would be exactly indexed by Google? Only the keyword phrase, the whole title or both? And what if I could not come up with a strong SEO title?

E.g. "Top 10 Winter shoes" is not a strong SEO title, so if this were my new post title, what would be exactly indexed by Google?

Thank you very much in advance for your time and reply and again, excuse me if I asked you a stupid question.

Google indexes every single word of your title and your content. Then Google will rank you on your target keyword, the natural LSI keywords that appear within your content, and other keywords you will have no idea up front that Google finds in your content.

Great training as usual Sire Boomer.

I myself plan to post once a week.

I am also writing a bank of posts before I even start to post on my new website. I have 3 so far...one a week..

When I reach 5, then I'll start posting.

I also find that to post quality content that you really got to research your topic and know it.

For e.g my niche is classic fairy tales for kids, and I have to actually read the fairy tales and look at the movies.

My last article was on Giant's in Fairy Tales and I had to read Jack and The Beanstalk and all the relevant tales with giants...plus watch the movie Jack The Giant Killer.

So once a week is good for me...it's not only writing...it's also knowing and learning your content.

Put all that together and I do think once a week is just good for me!

Researching your niche, even when you know your niche, will help to enrich your content. The more informative your content is, the better Google likes it. So between the research time and all the other stuff, I have found once a week to be ideal.

Hi you mention in one of your tutorials that you publish your content sometimes as pages, posts, blogs can you explain why you publish content as posts and what are blogs you publish.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Blogs and Posts are the same thing, hence the name blog posts. The reason I publish content as posts is because posts are more timely information that can be easily linked to other posts and pages. Another reason is that they can receive lots of comments.

Wow, am I happy that I found this post. I see most people saying 2-3 post per week is recommended to get ranked quickly. I have a busy life and will only be able to do 1 post weekly. I see that this article was published last year, so I wanted to now if it is still applicable in November 2017?
Thanks in advanced.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Yes, it is still applicable. Consistently posting content is the key. Though it is true the more you post the quicker you may rank, but what it really comes down to is consistency. Not everyone can post so many times a week, but everyone can post consistently at their own pace.

Thnx, Rob. Loved this. Especially about being consistent. I will try your hump day system. I tried doing 2 posts a week on 2 sites and that can get overwhelming when you are 'short' on ideas and writing is at a 'standstill-brain pause'.

Yes, it sounds great, but I was feeling too much overwhelm until I read your post. Thnx
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Actually that sounds crazy to me. First off managing two websites at one time can be overwhelming unless one of the websites has already been established and is getting decent traffic and interaction.

Seeing how every website requires a lot of attention in the form of content creation, on and off-page SEO, and social media marketing, doing all of this for both websites at the same time can definitely be overwhelming.

I made the mistake soon after I started to create a 2nd and a 3rd website, not realizing the time and effort it would take just to get one established within Google. I soon had to abandon two of them and solely focus on ONE website.
Reply
mybiz4u Premium
Absolutely, I agree with you. Each website takes work to set up, maintain and build. Of course, just starting out, as clueless as I was, I made some decisions that now (knowing what I do) need to be reviewed, re-assessed, and edit. It is all W-I-P...work in progress, and I am still learning.
Yup, it does keep me busy. And I am going along. Thanks so much, Rob, for your words. I appreciate them.
Namaste.

Question:
So my site deals with these toy collectibles that are constantly in a state of new releases and can come out seemingly at random and multiple times throughout the week. Similar to movie news sites and all the like.
Do you think it would be wiser for me to just have a post that encompasses/groups together all the latest announcements once or twice a week? Or is my niche the exception in having an actual set schedule. A part of me doesn't want to be late to the party with all this new info but at the same I don't want to burn out, y'know?
What would your suggestion be as to managing the constant influx of new release content with these collectibles?
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
There are times when some information is time sensitive. If it were me I would not do an all encompassing post but rather do individual posts and publish twice per week. And for those times when a particular news-worthy collectible is available, add that post to the weekly publishing.

Quoted Search Results
Reply
CateR Premium
Errrrr... quoted ... what does that mean?
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
When a keyword research tool gives you the competition results of a keyword it is always within quotes. This is why when you look in Google for a keyword you MUST search for the word within quotes and then click all the way to the very last page of the results, then scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the competition results.

And even after all of that the results can be slightly off because Google is a search engine and not a keyword research tool. This is why you should NEVER use Google to search for your keywords, because you will not get accurate results.

One keyword per post used sparingly because Google will know what your post is about without you intentionally adding more keywords. Google will find the LSI keywords that will naturally appear in your content. If you are not aware of LSI, check out below.

Page are all in the menu, am it not better to have few there so people can click on the to get what they are looking at? If possible to have maximum 3 click to be in the place you want to be on the website?

Sorry, stupid question but I have seen some site with so many pages that it surprised me!

Page in websites. I have always thought it would be bad to have too many pages, better to let post come to categories under the page. Stupid question, I know :) And even so I have gone through the training, this have always been a problem for me to be sure.

Hi boomer,

Can I ask a favor and your opinion on this? My website is firsttimeparentguide.com. I publish 2x a week consistently and in my homepage, I have two widgets that is weekly updated - latest post and latest review. I also make sure that I get at least 6 site comments everyday so that the widget "recent comments" is always updated. these three widgets are what i decided to replace the "blogroll" to have fresh internal links on my homepage. Also, if you see my pages (I have 4 in the menu) they are all pages! And I plan to use pages on them instead of post because i do noT like the idea of having timestamps on my articles. It makes them look obsolete several days or weeks after I have posted them. However, I have a "blog" category which uses post instead of pages. These posts are my "not very important" articles (just for fun articles) so I am fine if they are pushed to the archives. Am I doing it correctly?
Thanks again!
Pitin
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
For the way you are doing it, not having your blog roll on your home page, you are doing it correctly. My first two websites were like yours, having my blogs in a menu page called "blog"

Only my most recent website has the blog roll on the home page mainly because it gives my home page better SEO. With so many (10) blogs on a page, those are in essence 10 internal links per page and when a new blog is posted it refreshes the SEO of the page.

But either way is correct. It is all a matter of preferrence. I feel if a person is going to have 2 - 3 times more blogs than pages, then a home page blog roll is best.

Definitely NOT 250. Google will not seriously consider ranking any content under 450 words. The ideal amount is between 1500 to 2500. Most pages and posts that have 2000-2500 words tend to rank the highest.

Yes those are a lot of words but Google reward websites that have a lot of content and do not bother ranking websites with "thin" content. This is why you really need to know the niche you select so that ou can write a lot about it and on a weekly basis.

The amount of content you post on your website is solely up to you. The more you produce and on a consistent schedule, the quicker your Google SEO will rise.

Social media SEO? Not sure what you mean by that. The only SEO you need to concentrate on is the one for your website content.

Hi just wanted to ask if someone writes 16 posts per month with 1500 to 2500 words, would this be for 1 year 2 years or even 10 years or do you get to an amount of posts and then stop or slow down ?
Thanks in advance
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
What you want to do is post what you are most comfortable with in posting but do so in a sustainable way. If you can foresee yourself posting 4 pieces of content every week from now on, then do so.

Personally I do not see how I could do something like that so I stick to a more easily obtainable schedule. The goal is to publish consistent content that is quality over quantity.

Wow ... 25 pages and 30 posts. This goes back to the question ... when to create a post and when to create a page. I'm still not clear on this. Does this mean many if not all your main pages have pull down menus listing subpages relevant to the main page?

I like your tutorials Boomer.

You just need to be consistent. You don't need an exact schedule. I would say you should post at least once per week and more if you are able.

Your main pillar content should be pages like Reviews, How to Build a Website, Scams, Getting Started, About Me,...

For the pages that have a broad genre like Scams or Reviews, I would have drop downs. But the majority of content that most websites publish moving forward are posts.

Posts are normally the dominant form of content that is created for websites and is the best way to signal to Google that you are adding fresh content, especially if you leave the default WordPress setting of your Home Page being a blog roll.

You always should have more posts than pages. About 2 posts for every page is about right, even 3 to 1 would be fine.

One more thing, does time consistency matters too ? Or it doesnt matter at all?
For example: I publish a post every Monday at 5pm. The next Monday, should I schedule to publish my next post at 5pm also, or it can be anytime on that day.

You don't need to be on such a strict schedule. Google just looks for up-to-date sites with lots of content and community interaction. Once your have an established site that is ranking well you don't have to update it quite as much.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
No, as long as it is consistently on the same day you will be fine. It doesn't have to be at the exact same time of day.

Hi, what is the difference between pages and blog posts?
Need some clarity :D
Reply
Michelle04 Premium
Pages are considered to be static in that they don't usually change much, if at all. You can change the order of pages and they are not listed by their date. Usually you will have your pages along the top of your website in your menu, or even in the sidebar.

Posts are the content that you write for your site and they are listed in reverse chronological order. Posts create your blog roll and is where most of your writing will go. It will be the majority of your websites content.

Hope that helps. :)

Great training, Robert. Consistency + quality vs quantity. Thanks for the free keywords and I must say that you chose a very pretty camel for your 'hump day' image. ~Marion

Thank you very much Robert. This is excellent and makes total. I have to admit I was getting concerned about having to write posts daily, which as you say is necessary in the early days, as it really is a struggle to write meaningful material daily or even every other day, there is a limit. Consistency say once a week, as you say, does make complete sense.

I have been a bit lapse the past few weeks due to travel on business but starting now I shall set up my schedule for a Wednesday of every day, it has gone into my reminders.

Yes I noticed your bit of humour with the camel!!!!!

Thanks again.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Ever since I started doing a schedule it has been much easier to constantly publish content to my website. Now I do not have to rush and I can make sure the content I do post is of good enough quality.

Then having a few pieces of content saved as drafts is great because if for some reason I do not have something ready to go, I just publish one of my saved pieces.

HaHa You noticed my bit of humor relating to the picture of the camel. Nice!

This is very informative stuff. It would be nice to post daily but even what I read about my niche is getting repetitive. I want to cherry pick the most engaging stuff to blog about to keep things interesting. I'll be sure to keep my pacing regular from here on out.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
It is the best approach because like you said, eventually some of the posts become repetitive and there is only but so much one can write about. Some niches are not as deep as others.

This is so helpful! Thank you so much for your epic posts. I always thought that creating a new post every day was a good idea but I see what you mean. I would likely run out of ideas of content plus I am bad with consistency.
I'm thinking of publishing one new post every saturday which I hope will be OK. This should save me a ton of time for other things (like programming, lol).
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Like I said in the training, it doesn't matter how much you post every week, just make sure you consistently do it week after week.

You can do what I do. Have a few saved posts/pages in draft mode. Then when it comes time to post, if you haven't written one up, choose from one of the saved drafts.
Reply
TimBartrum Premium
Yes that's a really good idea, I will probably do that :)

I want to keep my consistency up , trying to figure out how to best balance being helpful on WA and developing my own website. They are both really important to me since I learn so much from peoples questions.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
When I was in the beginning stages of developing my website I devoted 80% to the website and 20% to the WA community. Though I love helping people, my website is more important.

Now that my website is more established, I can help out here a little more by creating these training tutorials.

Thant was my approach to what you are experiencing.
