How do YOU back up your website?
I've been trying to find a robust way of making regular (at least weekly) automated backups of a large WordPress site.
I've tried a few plugins, but haven't really been happy with any of them for various reasons - many seem to be technically difficult to set-up, or slow down my site.
I would like to know how members here are backing up their sites, what plugin (or external application) you use, and your experience in using it etc. Is it worth paying for a premium service, or is there a decent free alternative?

Hi FM, if you key in "wordpress backup" into the search bar above, some members have posted training on this if you need to rfr back to it again.
Thanks Annie, it's kind of sorted now. I'm using backwpup as referenced below. It fails more often that it succeeds, but at least I now have a couple of recent copies of my site. Regards, Paul
Happy to report that Ive managed to get backwpup working properly thanks to the link to the tutorial as posted below! It took ages, and had 3 timeout warnings but looks like it worked as is over in my dropbox account. Thank for all your help and suggestions! Paul

Hi there, this may sound a silly question but are you actually using BackWPup, and if so which release please, as this plug in is not working for me?

The problem is that the plugin runs at a prescribed time but then continues to run forever (like 41,500 seconds) and I get an error message and of course no back up. Up to a few weeks ago it worked fine,

It's been worrying me for a while, but been keeping my fingers crossed nothing goes wrong - I must get it sorted before it does!
Up until recently I used Backwpup for my four sites but over the past three weeks it has not run or run indefinitely with no back up. Tried putting a query on the WP plug in forum but got no responses. Am very keen to find an alternative which actually works. This plug in worked for several months but now doesn't - not encouraging to say the least,

You can export your site directly to your computer and save it there. I have done this to save and to upload to a site that I own the domain, not sure what happens if I tried to upload it back to my original site, Labman or Rich would know!
