Keyword research and WA Keyword Tool

EDIT: Guys! I asked Kyle the same question and he pointed me to a link which answered my question completely.

So, Problem solved now.

Here's the link, Kyle referred me to -

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-find-your-true-competition-in-google-understanding-qsr

My question is posted below

How does this work?

Since people dont search using quotes.

Then how does using quotes for keyword research help us?

I mean, I was using the wa keyword tool today

And I saw that even highly competitive terms like “get your ex back”

Was showing competition as less than 500. Actually, something like 260.

So,what’s really going on here?

Is there something wrong with the WA Keyword Tool?

Or maybe I am missing something?

EDIT : I just checked by searching with quotes on google for the keyword "get your ex back". It shows as Page 3 of about 28,900,000 results

while the WA keyword tool, gives the result as Page 3 of 265 results.

Now, I feel like the WA keyword tool is giving incorrect results and it's better to use google for this. The only problem is that the process will become too time consuming. Dont want to subscribe to Jaaxy as it's not within my budget.

I just want to figure out the real competition. I dont want to go for a keyword being shown as low competition and find out later that I am competing in the big leagues and it's next to impossible to rank. That's the reason I am asking.

What do you guys have to say? Any advice?

When you put words around the term, and make it a quote, the google search is a result of ALL the words in that quote, that's y the number is much higher.

OK...sorry about that one- as they say when you pick a stick up you pick up both ends, sorry that I was holding the wrong end! Andy

Hey, no need to be sorry about it, dude!

the WA keyword tool puts " round it, meaning that it is an exact match search, and this is what you are really competing for...and the guidelines in the training are realistic.
Hope this helps, Andy

Andy, what I am saying is that even I put quotes round the search term when I searched for it in google, and the competition is waaay more than what the tool shows.

You get something like 20 or is it 25 free searches with Jaaxy.I did not subcribe to the extra one either.

Hey Faraz,
When you are in you Google search, at the bottom of the page, you will see a pagination, on the first page it will be start with 1 and end with 10. Click on page 10. Then continue clicking on the last page at the bottom each time the results come up. Eventually you will get the real result, the one that is closer to the 265 that you mentioned (I got 256 - it's not always truly exact).

As for searching with quotes, people are learning that they get more precise results with quotes so I think that more and more people are taking advantage of that when they learn how to do it. But even if they aren't, you have to remember that with a broad base search, i.e., without the quotes, Google will return phrases that contain each of those words. So you don't want your website to appear when someone types in back surgery (unless your site is about back surgery :) And certainly there will be many results return with the word get and the word your and ex, etc.

Hope this makes sense,

Best Regards,
Jim

hmm, true. But I searched for "get your ex back" in google. i.e. I searched with quotes in google too.

And I checked what you said by searching for "get your ex back" in google and then clicking on page 10, then 18, then 22 and on 22 it said something about showing us page 22 of 211 results and that rest of the results were not shown because they were similar, so when I clicked on show similar results, then again it showed the results as 28,900,000.

So, I am really not sure if what you mentioned really works. I had an seo service provider about this search term and he said that it's a very competitive term and that I am better off, going for keywords with lesser competition. But WA keyword tool shows all keywords as low competition and that's what's bothering me.

Hey Faraz,
Let's look at it another way. Most people will agree that one of the biggest techniques in SEO is to put the keyword phrase in the title. So using Google's allintitle: operator will return only results of websites with that phrase in it's title. So if you go through the same exercise (pagination) with the search:
allintitle:get your ex back
or even,
allintitle:"get your ex back"
you will see that it comes in around 200 (give or take) in either case.

As to whether it is still too competitive is a judgement call. I know it has become a popular ClickBank product so you could be right. But the analysis shows that you probably could still with the right campaign.

Best Regards,
Jim

hmm, so you are saying that the WA Keyword tool is right, and I can depend on it?? You use this same tool for your keyword research too?

Hey Jim, I got my question answered by Kyle and he directed me to his video explaining QSR and google's manual search which is basically the same as what you were saying. Thank you so much, dude! You are awesome.
I was just a little afraid and didnt want to find out I was wrong later on. That's why I just wanted to make sure. I am adding the link Kyle gave to my original post.

Hi Faraz, Can you share a link to the video? I also don't completely understand about QSR.

Thank you.

The WA tool is correct for the exact phrase...Google results include related phrases that are similar.

Hmm, maybe that's true. dont know for sure though. I just want to figure out the real competition. I dont want to go for a keyword being shown as low competition and find out later that I am competing in the big leagues and it's next to impossible to rank. That's the reason I am asking.

I haven't tried it yet. Maybe approach some top members they have more experience or send a private message to Kyle. I only heard good things about Jaaxy.

Even I have heard good things about Jaaxy, but I am not talking about it. It's beyond my budget. I am talking about the WA Keyword tool.

Have to say I have not used the WA key word search still using my free searches at Jaxxy, wish you well with it

sometimes people do use phrases such as "how to ...." jaxxy is a great tool and as yet I cannot afford to subscribe,

Katie, I know about the "how to..." phrase. I just wanted to bring attention to the fact that wa keyword tool is giving incorrect results.

HI, The lessons have alot of info on keywords; also try the search bar for "keyword" there are alot of training's etc; here is one by DOM

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-use-the-keyword-search-tool-on-wa

hmm, thanks for the reply. could you tell me though, if it's showing the correct competition data or if there's something wrong. I looked for the competition for all the get ex back keywords and all of them show low competition. That's why I began to doubt if it is correct.
