I'm planning to switch themes. What generally happens with plugins? Will they remain activated? Is it best to deactivate them beforehand? Thanks

That was extremely helpful-Thanks Loes

Not all themes are compatible with all plugins.
You can deactivate before and after.
Most adviced plugins, like the SEO and akismet will stay with the transfer.

Before you switch themes, please make a backup from your site!

I think banners will not work, plugins will be OK. But you may try preview.

I would like to buy a Genesis theme, move it to WA and then move my website to it. As a completely non-technical individual, I am wondering if this is a complicated process and

I asked the same question too but the transition was easier than I thought. You can read more about it here in my review.

Thanks, Cathy. Your review along with the videos - very helpful. I now have the WP site uploaded and have got my work cut out for me. Hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew. A lot of reconstruction and redecorating. Your website is just great! Very impressive. Something to aspire to. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

CSS styling is not that difficult. There are lots of YouTube tutorials out there. I was completely zero when I started but I survived the ordeal. If you need any help, just PM me :)

Dear Kathy '

Like yourself I bought an Genesis Enterprise Pro - I have built a website using the Genesis theme but learning to customise it through trial and error - I am getting there slowly - Your turorial was helpful thanks very much.

Hi Cathy. Well for the time being I remain lost. I haven't actually moved my website over yet because the preview was scary looking. And right off the bat, a couple of major things I can't fix or figure out. So I plan to keep working with the theme I've got and play with my new one on the side. I will be availing myself of every tutorial and video out there. For sure. Thanks for your offer of help. I may take you up on it! Thanks again

Hi Cathy,

Would I be able to get technical support for customization and CSS Codes from Studiopress if purchase the Genesis theme?

I actually find the tutorials on YouTube more helpful than Studiopress. It also gives you an insight on what to expect out of the Genesis themes. Here's one that I particularly like.

Thanks Cathy. That is really useful. But in case you don't find the answers on youtube, is the Studiopress customer support helpful?

Yes, they do. That's why you pay for a premium theme in the first place. There was an occasion where they couldn't help me, but that's probably because I was attempting something too advanced.

My advice is to check out every child theme, scrutinize the features within the packages, see the responsive version, test out the layout/designs BEFORE buying one.

The whole idea is to find one that fits your need right out of the box WITHOUT having to mess around with the codes. In my case, I was just being too adventurous, but really, you should devote more of your time to content creation than worrying about theme designs.

I think it is more difficult to pick a theme, because so many of them are here.

Hello Cindy,

I use a Genesis theme. It's a fairly straight forward process. You download the parent theme and child theme to your computer, upload them one at a time to your site, and then activate the child theme.

Jay has a great training that will break down all the steps for you:

Thank you, Antonio. The training video was very helpful. Got the theme I wanted. Now I don't know where to start. At the beginning, I guess. Good luck with your online business. Your website is great! I'll be using it for reference! Thanks again.

You're very welcome Cindy. Thanks, I'm glad you like my site. I wish you the best with your business as well.

I bought a genesis pro theme and I like the simplicity - I still have a lot to learn on customising my website what I have done so far was by looking the tutorials - here is my Genesis website in its developing stages. Its very easy to transfer your genesis theme to WA

Thank you so much for your response, Rich908. As it happens, the Enterprise theme is the one I liked and wanted to buy. So now I have it - thanks to the help and advice of WA members - but I am now completely lost. I definitely have my work cut out for me. Of course it doesn't look like anything yet and I don't know where to begin. Did you do all that just looking at the tutorials? A great job and oh, by the way, a wonderful website. Really good. A man I admire so. Thanks again.

I changed the title of a page sometime after I published it and updated what I thought I needed to, but in the preview of what the page looks like in search engine results I not

Good question as I am going to change a name soon. Thanks for your question and everyone's help.

Yep, like both Loes and Marion said. It's all in the permalink.

You'll need to edit the permalink, just click on Edit then copy and paste the title in place of the old permalink. WordPress will convert it to a proper permalink with hyphens (dashes) instead of spaces and all in lower case. Then Update. ~Marion

Permalinks are what there name allready says permanent.
When you change your pagename after publishing, the permalinks will not change with it.
When your page is allready indexed, you can change the permalink on top, but you have to take action as well.
You have to remove the link at Gogle websmaster tools and fetch the new one.

Aaahhh...that is the step I missed! I think that omission would be pretty common. Thanks so much for these questions and answers. :)

The URL (aka the slug) reflects the title that you given the post when it was first published. It is also what Google use to index your page. Changing the title thereafter will not change the slug.

If the slug and the title don't differ much, I'll leave it as it is. If it's a whole new title with new targeted keywords but with the same content, you might want to do a 301 redirect.

That is the published url and you do not want to change them.
