I just had the same problem and I am not sure why or what I did wrong, but here is how I fixed it. I copied the entire post and started over with a new post and pasted the information to the new one....It worked and after I was sure it was published, I deleted the one that wouldn't work. I think I know what I did wrong on the first one, I think it had to do with trying to redirect a domain to the site too early (but, not positive)! Good Luck!
Hi, Barbara
Like others have said, copy the updated content to a word doc, then try these steps in this order:
1. Cold boot (shut completely off) your computer
2. Shut all apps you’re not using
3. Clear all browser cache
4. Try a different browser
5. Disable all wordPress plugins
6. Notify Site Support
Go back to where you wrote it (Site Content or the Block Editor) and try publishing again between steps 3, 4, & 5.
If you have another computer you can try publishing it on that.
Frank
Do you know what causes this to happen? Sometimes it goes away on it's own but this time it didn't.
Thanks very much for your response.
Barbara
That has never happened to me, Barbara. It could be many things.
My suspicion is that you may be having an intermittent problem involving a WordPress plugin and the Block Editor.
Frank
As others have said, save it to word doc. You might also try clearing your cache, Barbara!
Jeff
If it's already published, there should be an update button that appears as soon as you make a change. You are doing this directly in your site's admin area, not in Site Content?
Also, you can't have duplicate permalinks. WP will automatically add a number to the end of the slug to make it unique.
I didn't want to start over because I had already made a lot of progress on it. I just opened up a new copy of it and it had less on it so I already had it on a word doc so I didn't have to start from the beginning. I just deleted the bad one.
thanks very much,
Barbara

Thanks very much for your responses. I tried emptying cache - that didn't fix it. I ended up just opening another copy of the posts that had less saved to it and I ended up losing only a little bit of work but I already had it written in word so it turned out ok. I have not idea what causes that. Sometimes it goes away on its own. This time it didn't.

Hi Barbara,
I’m an Etsy affiliate. I do have a few posts promoting Etsy, but I don’t promote them very often.
Hi Jenny,
So you have some Etsy posts in your Golden Retriever site? I will check it out. Thanks very much!
Barbara
Hi Barbara,
I think I have maybe 2 posts. Your welcome to take a look.
I know the one post is gift ideas for golden retriever owners.
Like I said I don’t promote Etsy that much.
Thanks, Jenny.
Why don't you do Etsy posts anymore? I just started with them. Is there something I should know about them? Are they a pain to work with?
Thanks again,
Barbara
Nothing really wrong with Etsy, I just find their links aren’t as easy to insert into posts. There are more steps to take as compared to Amazon, especially with their images.
Commissions are low as well, just like Amazon.
I noticed that you gave credit to Etsy and the shop for the photos so I did that to. I didn't read anywhere about the images and how to use them, I had just put an image of each product I recommended into the post but I added the photo credit after I saw yours. It doesn't say whether you can or can't use the images, but I don't see how it is possible to recommend a product and not show the image. It is harder to do Etsy because there are no other reviews on those products, so it's hard to get other points of view except for the few reviews they have. I wanted to be an Etsy affiliate because their products are so unique. I didn't think at the time that this is going to make them harder to review.
Amazon is easier to find products you can review, and sometimes the same product is on Chewy, so I have 2 choices for someone to buy one, but I don't know that you can find Etsy products anywhere but on Etsy. It's hard to compare them with anything, but I like them because they are unique, so I will just see how it goes. Mostly I have used Amazon, even though their commission is also low.
At least with Amazon even though the commissions are low a lot of people shop there so it might get more traffic. I haven't really even been doing affiliate marketing that long, only about 2 or 3 months.
Thanks very much, Jenny!
Barbara
I asked a while ago about using images from Etsy and other affiliate programs through Awin, and we are allowed to use their images to promote a product.
I figured it would be best to credit the image and seller, so that is what I did.
I like Etsy for their one of a kind items, but it’s much more work to add links and images as compared to Amazon.
Good luck with your Etsy promotion.
They do usually have seasonal incentives for their affiliates, so watch for those.
Etsy is available through Awin and ShareASale, so that's one of my merchants.
Yes, if you are an approved affiliate, you can use their images.
Right now Awin is new to you, while Amazon is old and familiar. It's just as easy to get your links from Awin as it is Amazon, once you learn the process. We've also got the MyAwin Chrome Extension which will automatically give you the link whenever you are on an Etsy page (or any other merchant you belong to through Awin).
Etsy sellers are required to actually make their products, so they are unique vs. anything you'll find elsewhere. That's one of the reasons why those products are so great.
Like Amazon, Etsy offers over 200 million products, so it's quite common for someone to order something else while on the Etsy site.
BETTER THAN AMAZON, the Etsy cookie lasts 30 days (rather than Amazon's 1-day cookie), so people have 30 days to order something else from Etsy and you'll still get the credit.
Also, Etsy has never dropped their commission without warning, which we all know Amazon does often.
I choose Etsy any day of the week!
Yes, that 30 day cookie is a really great thing! Maybe someone will click on my site and buy something expensive within 30 days. You never know!
Barbara
Thanks, Jenny. I am giving it a try. I think my next one will be better than my first one. I should have written more about what to look for when selecting a puzzle toy for a dog. I will remember that for my next review. I always do that on Amazon, I just forgot this time so I'm not expecting much.
Hopefully next time I will do better.
Thanks very much, Jenny!
Barbara
I'll have to look for that Chrome extension. That would make it really easy to get the links. I am going to keep working with Etsy to give it a chance. I really like their products that is why I applied again to be an affiliate after I was originally rejected. Probably I had too little traffic when I applied. I have managed to increase my traffic somewhat. I need to write better reviews, though. I keep working at it.
Thanks very much, Jeannine!
Barbara
No my apologies.

Hi,
I am using Grow Social free and it is pointing to an incorrect Pinterest page and not the one it is supposed to be directed to. I can't see anywhere in those options
Thanks to Richard, This is all worked out now. I wasn't even looking at the right plugin that caused this.
Thanks very much, again, Richard!

Hi Barbara
Grow Social installs the social SHARE icons which show at the bottom of the content in your posts and don't include Pinterest for some reason... do you want to add the icon?
The purple/mauve icons in your sidebar and footer are set up through the Simple Social Icons block/widget. To change that you need to go to Appearance / Widgets... if you need help with this send me a PM.
:-)
Richard
Richard, I can see the Pinterest button in both places in the upper right I guess that is the sidebar as well as in the footer and the footer Pinterest button goes to the correct page on Pinterest.
I have sent you a PM.
Thanks very much,
Barbara
My problem is one of the buttons, the Pinterest button is directed to an incorrect Pinterest page. I don't see anywhere in this plugin that allows you to change the link where it is connected because it is wrong.
Are you running the free version or the paid version?
Barbara
Have you ever had to change a link to one of your social media sites? If it can't do that then it isn't going to work for me because it is going to the wrong page.

Hi Barbara,
I use Easy Table of Content with Generate Press Pro version.

Jenny, You and Frand both are using the Generate Press Pro plugin while mine is free. Maybe that is a problem, although it doesn't say anything about that.
I am so frustrated with this stuff!

I used the easy table of contents with the free version of generate press as well, no issues.
What issues are you experiencing?
Hope you get it sorted out.
I just don't see the Easy TOC block where the blocks are all sitting. It's just not there. The only way it is working is in auto mode so it just does it to all posts where # of headings is > 3. Do you also use any additional blocks such as Generate Blocks in addition to Easy TOC?
Thanks very much,
Barbara
Thanks, Jenny. I want to use Generate Blocks because I am trying to follow Tim MaKinlay's guide to making Amazon reviews. It looks like it would really cut down on the time it takes to create reviews. His method uses Generate Blocks. It seems to work fine on my test site I just hope it continues to work well on my real site!
Have a great weekend, Jenny!
Barbara
Hi, Barbara
I use Easy TOC with GeneratePress Pro, and it works fine. I suspect you may have a plugin conflict. Shut off all your plugins and check if the TOC appears in your post. If it does, turn on each plugin one by one until you find the conflict.
Note that you don't have to add Easy TOC to your post as a separate block.
If you are using AIO SEO, you can always use their new TOC block, which gets added as a separate block from inside the block editor. It's called AIOSEO-TOC.
See my WA Blog: Are you using the aioseo faq and toc blocks? HOWEVER, be aware that if you change to a different SEO plugin in the future, you will lose the TOC on all your posts!
Frank
Unfortunately, I have Yoast SEO and they have taken it upon themselves to dump some lousy useless plugin that I never installed or even asked about into my blocks somehow. I don't like that at all.
I guess I will have to try and deactivate plugins and reactivate them until I find the conflict. If you deactivate a plugin and then reactivate it does it have to be set up again or will it still have the same setup?
Thanks very much,
Barbara
Unfortunately, some plugins may require some reconfiguration but most do not. You can simply reactivate them and you're good to go.

Wishing you well
Andre :)
It works in Auto mode but I can't see the Easy TOC block to put in a TOC manually.
Thanks very much,
Barbara
When in post mode it doesn't show up but in preview mode you should be able to see how it looks.
Also when on a post click the plus sign and in the search box type TOC you should get some choices to use. I have one that states AIOSEO table of contents as per the image
Plus I have two other options as well again as per the image perhaps you could try those and see how you go.
So you are not supposed to see a block for Easy TOC? I didn't know that. Then maybe it is working fine. The only TOC that I can see is some Yoast thing that isn't any good. But You are right that Easy TOC does show up under preview mode, so that's good. I guess it is working then.
Thanks, Andre! That is great to know!
Barbara
That's right Barbra when you are working on the post it won't show up but either going to preview or after you publish it will be seen there.
I always when creating a new post and even some old ones when changing from Classic to block editor check in preview mode.
This way I can check to see how the TOC will look along the way and if it needs to be fixed I can do so then.
Hope that helped Barbara
Andre
But I don't see it at all unless it is in preview mode. How can you change it if it doesn't show up in edit mode?
thanks very much!
Barbara
That is what I said in edit mode you wouldn't see it but when you save the draft and then go to preview mode you will see it.
That way you can see how it looks when ready to publish your post.
If you already have the post published and want to make further changes to your H tags, once you make the changes then save the post and again you can either go to preview mode as you are doing now or re-publish the post.
What I do for a post that has already been published is I go to the edit mode make the changes and save.
Then I preview the post in another tab to see how it looks, if it still needs some adjustment then I go back to the edit view tab which is already opened, and make the changes, then I go to the other tab and just hit the refresh button.
This saves time opening and closing the post.
I just went to your website and the TOC is just how it should be you have the TOC on top of your first H2 tags so all seems to be good.
It looks great Barbara

Thanks, Abie. I have already watched this also and it doesn't land me on the right page for my product. Also, this is just for clicks and for affiliate clicks I am going to try using GA4. I don't think I can track 'add to cart' and 'checkout' since it's not my domain.
Barbara
You're right, you can't track "add to cart" or "checkout" to your tracking, because those are activities which happen one another site, not yours. Those are not metrics which are ever reported to affiliates. You can always see when you have a successful transaction, but the rest is not available.
Thanks, Jeannine. After wasting a lot of time trying to look into this I finally realized that this is just not going to happen. Thanks very much for your response!
Barbara
Very interesting question.
I did a little research and found this Youtube video.
Not sure it does all that you are looking for.
www.youtube (dot) com/watch?v=SLABmxxSIP8
It turns out I already watched this video. It seems like I can track the link clicks but nothing like add-to-cart or checkout. Which, I guess is impossible because it isn't happening on my site.
thanks very much for your help,
Barbara
Yes, I would agree that it will be only visible on the site where the action takes place. Some affiliate programs give more details about sales and non sales than others.
I did look further into Amazon and I did find a more detailed report telling me what I sold which is good to know.
thanks again for your help,

Hi, Barbara
It’s difficult to say but if you can create a custom Thank You page you might be able to track that in GA.
Frank
Unfortunately, I don't produce a thank you page. I have only had 2 sales so far so I have not been doing much affiliate marketing so far but am increasing it lately. So is that through an autoresponder like AWeber? I thought the thank you pages were for when someone signs up for your email list?
Thanks very much,
Barbara
You have to check with the affiliate network to see what options, if any, you have to set that up.
i think jay did a series on analytics and you can set up an event as visitors reach a certain page....
but can you not see where visitors go ...
i presume these pages are on your site...
there are link tracker plugins that can track people clicking on links on your site.
but even getting to the add ot cart does not mean they bought - the thank you page does...
I don't have a thank you page for purchasers of affiliate products. I didn't know I was supposed to do that. I would want to track 'add to cart' but also 'checkout' if the checkout event fired I would know. I did listen to Jay's course on adding events to affiliate links and I tried it but it did not work correctly with the Amazon link. It didn't give me an error, it just didn't take me to the page with the actual product I am promoting on it. So if it messes up my links it doesn't work for me. Can you recommend any of those link tracker plugins?
Thanks very much,
Barbara
you only have a thank you page when you have the checkout page on your site...
if you are sending them to amazon then no you can't use amazons checkout as a trigger as that page is not yours...
do you look at your stats in your amazon account, i never have had a problem with that...
User Activity Tracking and Log plugin looks interesting as a link tracker..
i tried a plugin like linker but found that adding the links to the plugin time consuming and a pain with the flow of writing...
so for tha amazon links all you can do is to track the number of clicks on the links - which is what you can get if you add a tracking id to the link anyway inside amazon reports...
personally i would be looking at adding microsoft clarity t osee how your visitors interact with your site... where they get to in the post .. .do they click back before they get to the links or the bits you think are interesting....
good luck
phil
Thanks, Phil. I have also come to that conclusion after a lot of searching. It looks like the best I can do is track the click on the link and the URL of the page it linked from.
Thanks very much for your help,
Barbara

How can i track events through my affiliate links?
Hi,
I really need to know how to track the events: 'Add to Cart' and 'Checkout' for affiliate links. Not having these links is preventing me from tracking conversions. Pl

I did look further into Amazon and I did find a more detailed report telling me what I sold which is good to know.
thanks again for your help,

Thanks very much for your help!
