I am taking from FreeDigitalPhotos.net

The same exclusions apply to all these free services, ie. if you click FreeDigitalPhotos Terms & Conditions http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/terms-and-conditions.php#terms14a you'll see "FreeDigitalPhotos.net provides images supplied by the Contributors in good faith but without any responsibility that the Contributor is entitled to place the image on the website" and further down "The Contributor further acknowledges that he/she is responsible for any challenges made by any third party regarding copyrights in the image." I'm afraid you'll find very few of the free image services are entirely "risk free". Rich.

All my images are from Wiki, I hope I won't be getting any trouble with it.

It seems to be troublesome, may I'll limit it now. Does if affect google ranking in any way?

As Beverley (@BIS) said, the best way to get product images is to find the manufacturer or company's corporate website, simply by typing the product name and the words press release ie. > hello kitty press release < which brings up Sanrio. The website lists their affiliate program managed by Rakuten Linkshare https://sanrio.affiliatetechnology.com/ which I imagine provides extensive imagery for affiliates and also their press department at http://www.sanrio.com/press-releases/ You'll find many companies put media libraries online where you can safely and legitimately download product images, for example Sony at http://presscentre.sony.eu/ImageLibrary/Default.aspx :) Rich.

Just google "royalty free cat images". I am sure you find what you need. I just looked and there are really nice and royalty free pictures to be found

The same issue applies to all websites that offer "Royalty Free" images.
Anyone can upload any image they want and the site has no way of verifying the copyrights and ownership... this is how people who use these "free" images sometimes end-up with big lawsuits on their hands :(

There is more info here:

"Using free images on your website even when it states you can use them freely, can still result in being fined by large companies like Getty, you also risk losing your site ranking if DMCAs are filed against your site.

Why would this happen if it says I'm free to use the images?
It's possible that someone may have added copyrighted images they didn't own to the site collection, you then download them and add to your own site. The copyright owner that comes after you.

Use free images at your own risk - but be aware that there are monetary and ranking risks, ie. if a someone like Getty or Disney goes after you, there's not a lot that you can do but pay up. The record in the UK is £30,000 for a thumbnail image and that's before it got to Court!"

Personally 50% of the images I get are from wikimedia (see link below) with the majority of them being in the Public Domain. There have been only a few that I had to attribute to the author of the photo and wikimedia tells you exactly how to do that. The other 50% of the images I use I take myself with my camera.

But so far I haven't had a problem finding what I need from wiki.

"While the copyright and licensing information supplied for each image is believed to be accurate, the Wikimedia Foundation does not provide any warranty regarding the copyright status or correctness of licensing terms."

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Reusing_content_outside_Wikimedia

... this basically means that anyone could upload any images to Wikimedia and claim it's "public domain"... even if it isn't.

Yeah, I've read that before canuck. The only reason why I go with wiki is because Kyle said to in his training along with a couple others. But fortunately for my last website all of the pictures, except for the few I got permission to use, I took myself. My next two websites will also be of images I take myself. It's becoming too hard and risky getting images online if you don't really know the source of the image.

I have recently had a chat with Rich and he told me a story about someone whoo got sued for $12,000 for using an image hat had some copyrights on it.

In short, when you use images from the internet, even "royalty free" there is a risk it isn't really free and you might get sued, regardless if your site makes money or not.

The best way PAY for images or make your own.

I use wikimedia for my images. I don't exactly give a credit (because it looks a bit cheap on a website). However, when I put an image inside a post, I put a link back to the wikimedia page I got it from, which I think is ok. I'm not sure it's actually legal that way, but for poeple like us, I doubt you'd get into trouble.
Of course, if I'm wrong, I expect someone here will let me know.

I don't know whether they have an affiliate program - but anyway check the company website and see if they have a marketing tab and whether any images are allowed to be used.

If you're an affiliate of amazon you can obviously use the images there. It's not that you have to use 'free images' what you have to do is have the rights to use any image and it's always important that you read the licence information attached.

You're right your unlikely to find suitable images under stock photo websites purely because you're looking for a specific product. You could take photographs yourself if this was practical.

Beverley

Thank you!!! much appreciated!

HI community,

So the inspiration for my niche came from my girlfriend's love for Hello Kitty. I've realized that everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE is a product in Hellp Kitty

I do know someone who uses several different names. A different name for every niche. No, it's not me LoL

Hi Meredith! Please share your thoughts about this i want to know your point of view as well.

Having your real name and photo of yourself on your affiliate website will add a sense of
trust to your followers. Not that they would know if it's your real name you are using or not but what happens when you become very successful in you niche and becomes a public figure or an authority? Will you then suddenly change back to your real name and confuse your loyal fans?

Just my take on it.

Hi Yaray!

Like @Rich mentioned here fake name are usually use by writers.

But my take on it is if your about to create a website and your hiding behind a curtain just because your a guy and your customers will mostly be female well what kind of image are you throwing out there?====> I'm not talking about the customers here, I'm talking about you how will you fill not having put your name on your website that you will have work so hard on to succeed!

Trend yourself, be open and honest with your public who cares if your content is purely hello kitty stuff.

Ruth Handler the creator of barbie she's a woman ok, but when she came out with Ken do you think she went in hiding and change her name? No!

Be proud of your website and put your name on it!
That's my thinking!

It is simply an opinion and you don't have to agree to it.

I hope i helped in any way?
Eric

I just created my website today and have the same concern. Has anyone experienced any kind of harassment as a result of using their real name?

Hi lasttime73,

I personally haven't but even if I would I wouldn't care because my creation is my baby my sweat and tears and you should know deep down that there is always going to be some idiot that's going to leave a comment.

You know why? because people are afraid and feel threaten by sometime they can't even do themself therefore the only way for them to feel good about it is to put you down so they can feel higher than you!

But you will always come out on top because YOU will be successful while they will still be where their at! ahaha!

Oh and I'm not saying you will get harassment I'm talking if one day you would face it.

Success to you Lasttime73,
Eric

You can certainly do this, authors do it all the time, they write under a Nom de Plume, I believe J. K. Rowling just released a book under another name. However, I know a Member here who feels that he's more successful being a guy promoting products that primarily appeal to women, as he believes it's a more interesting and novel experience for his female audience. Just an idea! Rich.

ok thank you Rich. Will put that into consideration

If you don't feel comfortable with an "about me" page... try an "about this site" page and tell how the site came to be... just a thought... good luck!

Well when the traffic increases and people do email, would it be alright to use a fake name?

do we check those off too?

From my understanding these boxes ASK Google and Yahoo to use what is in the title and description boxes instead of pulling text out of your post.

But in my experience Google and Yahoo do what the hell they want to do and change often.

These block certain directories from showing up, such as Yahoo and DMOZ. Somehow, (I don't know how at this point) adding these meta tags will up your CTR to a degree, from what I gather, because blocking these directories will weed out old, dated stuff. My guess, is that delimiting these directories will result in a less diluted result.

NOYDIR=No Yahoo Directory
NOODP=No Open Directory Project (DMOZ)

Wow, thank you.
So I should block them off? I mean would YOU recommend it?

It probably would not amount to very much to check these off. I myself, don't bother with them. It depends on what you are doing, which niche you are in. If it's something that would become dated pretty quickly, probably it would be worth it, but if it's timely, I wouldn't. Depends on how quickly whatever you are into goes out of date.

I don't think it would hurt to check them off. WA suggests that the less you mess with meta tags, the better. If you do your content right, that will naturally help the meta stuff.
