Changing Themes
Well I have done it .. I changed my Website Theme!
I have been behind in my plan for developing my Website and realised that one of the issues was that I did not relate to the theme, colours and font that I was using. Ok, I know those things can be changed but I am a novice in wrestling with WordPress and did not want to waste a lot of time.
Secondly I found the display of the text (Blog posts) on the theme I was using was going right to the screen edge at certain window sizes and on certain devices, making it look unprofessional,.
So, my website .... :
- Before - Hiero
- After - Iconic One
I don't write Blog entries here for ranking and exposure .. I write them for the purpose of sharing and contribution and hopefully have others learn from my small experiences.
So why Iconic One?
- It is a clean, responsive (meaning it works on mobiles) and fast loading.
- It is simple. "Content is King" and so is "User Experience". I know some people say that some of the more advanced themes make a site more "professional". I am not convinced of that as a priority and most site visitors are now on mobile anyway.
- Iconic is a popular theme here on WA which means there is a lot of community support available.
The change theme experience?
I read a lot of the posts here on WA before making any decision or any change and the consensus was that changing themes is easy. I am a sceptic of course, and I was surprised how easy it actually was .. just like the community said!
I also used this training to place the Privacy Policy as a link in the Footer and take it off the Menu: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/cm2108/blog/how-to...
Any Issues?
Two so far:
- The Menu did not carry across, but I needed to redo it anyway because of the change of Privacy Policy
- My posts lose their formatting the first time I edit them
These issue maybe from an mistake I made. Overall a good experience!
Cheers, William.

Changing themes are almost always giving complications
Here is a blog to check up what else can go wrong Change theme, what can you expect?
I have check everything you have said .. all good and all links work. Except as I mentioned, if I edit a post or page for the first time in the new theme I need to reformat is all . Not really a problem, I will do it gradually. Thank you for your help. Cheers, William.
Hi William
I just went through the same problem. Started with sturd theme but that was horribly out dated, then changed to hiero looked good but was not able to change the header to make it look more professional, so I had to change it again.
yes I like iconic one and will give it a go now.
I read a training from Marion black about feature filters, you should check it out, it allows you to narrow down your search selecting the features you want. Im doing this from my phone so can't copy the link.
she also recommends setting up a dummy free site siterubix for trying out new things without messing up your original site which I found to be a great way to test and trial new themes before you make a decision.
Take care
