How to Place The "Privacy Policy" on the Bottom (Footer) of Your Page (WordPress)

Hello everyone,

With this blog post, I'd like to give a hand to those who would like to place their "Privacy Policy" on the bottom of their page (footer), instead of having it on the main (top) tab / page selector or on sidebars or under their posts and the selected theme is not very much "editable" at the footer area.

The "Privacy Policy" is something that you don't have to place on your main menu of your homepage, messing with your other pages and posts, but ... somewhere on it and of course, visible in case someone would like to see it and available to the search engines (Google loves it!). In my opinion, the footer area is the best place for that.

I had to deal with that "problem" when I used the WordPress Iconic One theme for one of my niches. It's a very simple process and you don't have to a web developer to re-locate it.

So let's start.

1) Login at your WordPress Website as an Admin

2) Go to the Editor (Under the Appearance Menu on the left sidebar)

3) Look for Footer area on the right of your screen

4) Copy and paste the following snippet within the footer area

<A href="http://yoursite.com/privacy-policy">Privacy Policy </A>

(Don't forget to customize it accordingly with your own valid privacy policy link)

5) Click Update File

And You are ready to go!

If you want to see how mine looks please click here. If you have any further questions please feel free to post them below and I'll do my best to answer them since ... I am not a web developer either!

Thanks for watching!

For some reason it is not working for me, I have tried short linkng it and everything, does anyone have an answer. I copied and pasted it to look exactly like the example

Are you still having problems or your solve that out?

No , I figured it out. Thank you :)

Good to hear!

Hi, does the snippet go at the beginning of the code or at the end, or in the middle? or does it not matter.

I have added a custom menu into my footer and place the privacy policy into that menu, that's also a way to put your privacy policy into the footer, besides that, you can add also your affiliate disclosure within,

Thank you for the reply, i'll have to look into how to do that a bit more and i'll add the disclosure also when i figure it out :)

It is not that difficult, go to customize, then footer, then add custom menu.
Go to menus, create new menu, add privacy policy
Go to customize again, footer, custommenu, add your just created menu and save

Hi , thanks, just one more question, how do i remove or hide the original page from the home menu? or is that a stupid question LOL.

Go to menus and click on the arrow beside it, then in the dropdown, you see "remove"
The only stupid question is the one NOT asked

Very true, thank you for all your help.

Thank you so much. Very helpful! :)

You are very welcome! Thanks for the comment!

The footer is where I keep all my legals, it appears at the bottom of every page, I also make pages for Earnings Disclaimer, Terms Of Use, Privacy Policy and DMCA and include them in the footer also, when I star building sites this is the first thing I do, I have just started building my WA site and I'm not sure that I can post a link here so if you would like to see how it looks and fits at the bottom of the page just send me a message and I'll send you the link,

I agree with you, all this stuff needs to be in the footer in my opinion. I prefer them there too. Of course, you can post your site here. I'll also visit it and leave you a comment there if you like. Posting your site is OK, posting an affiliate link is not OK. We are here to help each other.

Gus

Thanks CM on the info about posting my site, I didn't want to look like I was spamming my sites, here is the link to WA http://thewealthyaffiliateuniversity.com it is not a finished page The banners will come down as content will be added as soon as I finish writing it.

Go for it! Wish you great success with your site!

Thanks for reading Larry!

Very nice, thank you.

You are very welcome!

but where in the footer area do you place the code. Privacy Policy
you have not said

Hi,
By following step Nr 2 You click the editor.
Then a window opens with the editor.
On your right you can see the sections of your page.
You are going to look for the "Footer".
You click on it and the main window scrolls to the footer area.
Within the area you place the above snippet

Yes, as Allyn says, different themes have different setups. In Catchbox, which I use, it's just a question of putting another menu down the bottom and adding the Privacy Policy (or anything else) to it. But it's great to have all situations covered so thanks Gus!

Thanks Peter!

Appreciate it so much.

Thank you very much!

Thanks Gus. A few months ago I posted a similar post about what I had to do to get the policy in my footer and discovered that different themes have different footers. Some have no footer at all, others have one footer space or even up to four footers defined. You've given a nice, general method, so thanks for that.

Thanks a lot Allyn, I had the same .. headache a few weeks ago so I thought that I should share it with my fellow members just in case I can save someone from the same .. headache. Thanks again!
