FB & TWITTER TIPS:

Facebook Features:

1. Save “News Feed Posts” to read later:

Posts in your “News Feed”, have a “Save” option in the drop-down menu under the top, right corner. The “Save” option shows up for everything except photos.

“Save” also shows up on pages. Click the “…” next to the Like, Follow, and Messages buttons at the top of the page.

Where do all these saved posts and pages end up?

Once you’ve saved a few, you’ll notice a new menu item in the left sidebar of your homepage. Click “Saved,” and you’ll be directed to a complete list of all the posts and pages you’ve saved, viewable in one big chunk or broken out by category.

2. “Follow” rather than “Friend”

You can “Follow” someone without “Friending” them, and others can “Follow” you without “Friending” you.

Here’s how it works: When you’re on the profile page of someone who has this feature turned on, you’ll see a “Follow” button, along with an “Add as Friend” option.

When you follow someone, you see their posts in your news feed, just as you would when you become friends with someone. The big difference between friending and following is that there need not be reciprocation from the other person. If they don’t return your friend request, you can follow instead.

To turn on the follow feature for your own profile, go to your Facebook settings. Click on the Followers link in the left-hand menu, and change “Who Can Follow Me” from “Friends” to “Everyone.”

3. Receive email from your Facebook email address. You can email me at * wally.kenimer[at]facebook.com *, and the message will come straight to my regular account. You can do the same. Your Facebook email is your username on Facebook, plus @facebook.com.

4. Download everything you’ve ever done on Facebook. Go to your settings page, and click the “Download Facebook data” option at the bottom of the settings.

5. Pin a post to the top of your page. Click the drop down arrow in the top, right corner of any of your page posts, and choose “Pin to Top.”

Little-Known Twitter Features:

Create a collection of tweets

Twitter allows users to compose a custom timeline, containing only the tweets you choose to include. These collections are made possible via “Tweetdeck”, Twitter’s free management dashboard app.

Add a new “Custom timeline” column to your Tweetdeck dashboard, and drag-and-drop the tweets you wish to add. This custom timeline gets its own URL on Twitter, and you can embed a timeline into a blogpost or page.

Twitter Mute Feature

1. Rather than unfollowing someone you’d rather not hear from, you can mute the account for as long as you’d like. This can be helpful if you’re looking to manage your Twitter stream or if you want things a bit quieter while others are participating in chats or tweet bursts.

You can access the mute option from any tweet. Click on the “More” drop-down and choose “Mute” from the list of options. You can go back and “unmute” later by visiting the person’s profile.

2. TweetChat: Twitter chat management

Login to follow a specific hashtag, hang out in a room that collects the hashtagged tweets for you, and reply, as you like (with the hashtag added automatically to your tweet).

3. Chat Salad: A calendar of Twitter chats

See upcoming Twitter chats and when they’re scheduled, as well as the hashtags they use (so you can follow along).

4. Twubs: Twitter chat homepages

Register a hashtag for your chat and collect/view the tweets from one location.

5. Nurph: Chat planning and organizing

Nurph channels let you plan and organize your chat, complete with follow-up stats and replays.

6. TwChat: Real-time chat rooms for Twitter chats

Submit your hashtag. Enter your chat room. Have fun!

Is this the type of WA Blog Post you like vs. Post about the weather, pets, dreams, etc.?

I’m making a list of WA Members with informative/relevant Post. If you make such a list, maybe we can exchange our Lists.

This is exact the type of blog I enjoy reading. Facebook is easier for me than twitter. I know how to send a tweet but not how the site actually works. Thanks again

Thanks, Wally. Lots of great info here. I'm bookmarking, too. I knew some of it, but not all. Yes, this is the kind of helpful post I love to read.

Thanks Carla. Direct your people to my Profile if the Info will help them.

Wally when you post like this I read and bookmark. This will help myself now and in the future. I do absorb the knowledge that you post. It does not always stick the first time around.

Thanks for all the useful tips on Twitter, I have not set this one up yet. All others are done.
Have any tips on why Bing won't verify me. I keep getting an error that looks like this.

HTTP Error: Status Code 404. We did not receive a 200 (OK) response when requesting your page. Please make sure the URL to your authentication file exist and try again.

I put the meta tag under what I think is obviously the header, my theme doesn't actually say header, so I put it under the author information for the header.

Bing also says this too:

<meta> tag not found before <body>: make sure you place the verification tag with the correct verification key (F813C57ACEA4CA366C6FE8B50641966C) in the <head> section and before the <body> tag in your page.

I also say CNAME needs to be added, I read that a bit, not sure which one to choose, and that wasn't in the training, but Bing says its missing.

Any ideas......or anyone else.......

Kim

Kimberly I had the same problem with Bing. Kept trying different things. One day it accepted it with out doing anything different. You might try the Ftp method. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/ftp-filezilla-connecting-to-domain-via-ftp

I did that with Google Analytics, left it alone, went back later and google verified me. I was already sitting on Bing, so I decided to try again, but no go.
I will check out the Ftp method, thank you!

I don't use or know anything about Bing.

Thanks, just thought I would ask.

Many thanks for the info. I will bookmark it for when I start the social networking side of things.
All the best,
Brandon
