A 3-step formula For Creating Successful Content:

Step #1: Find content by Other Folks, in your niche that has already done well.

Step #2: Make it even better.

Step #3: Promote it directly to people that would be interested in it.

Step #1 Explained: (Find Successful Content In Your Niche)

Publishing content that You-Think-Will-Work” is WRONG.

Instead, find content that has & is working.

Where do you find it?

GO TO: FLIPPA.COM

‘Flippa’ is a ‘Classified Ad Site’ where websites & domains are sold.

Sellers give away all the info about their website, including the successful content they published.

To mine Flippa for this proven content:

Search for websites in your niche.

Use a broad keyword that describes your niche.

Limit the results to sites receiving 1,000+ visitors per month.

********************

THE NEXT TECHNIQUE IS WIKIPEDIA.

It’s not the actual articles about our niche within Wikipedia that are of interest. It is the ‘References’ we are after.

Why?

If some content within an article gets cited as a “Reference” in Wikipedia, it must have been popular.

So, go to Wikipedia and enter a broad search term.

You will find links to other Wikipedia entries that will have references that you can use.

**************************

The Next Technique Is “REDDIT”

Reddit is a great place for blog post topic ideas.

Here’s how to use it:

First, find a Sub-Reddit that you intend to write about. Go To SearchReddit.com :

If there’s a Sub-Reddit for your topic, go to it or check out threads that discuss your topic. They will be ranked based on what’s popular now.

If there’s nothing promising on the front page, click on the “Top” Tab,

which will show the all-time most popular threads in your niche based on Reddit Up-Votes.

**************************

Next - Content Curators

Let other people do most of the work.

Use the following Google Search Strings to find the Content:

best (your keyword) posts

keyword + “all time best”

keyword + “best 2014″

keyword + “top 100″

keyword + “top 50″

best (your keyword) posts 2013

best (your keyword) posts 2014

****************************************

Open Site Explorer

Open Site Explorer by Moz lists the authority of sites & pages based on inbound links.

Use “Top Pages” for more Content Ideas by entering a competitor’s site and homepage into the tool & clicking on “Top Pages” to see their most popular pages.

Notice pages with a high number of inbound links. Those pages will contain the content that searcher like.

******************************

First Pagers

Google’s “First Page Results” is good for proven content ideas.

You will receive the Domain Authority and Page Authority of the results on the first page.

You’re looking for pages with high Page Authority and low Domain Authority indicating the content is the ranking factor.

*******************************

BuzzSumo

BuzzSumo.com is another Tool to find popular content that the other techniques may have missed.

It is free & fast and has a dashboard that allows you to filter by Network (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.) & Content type & Date.

Filtering for ‘Articles’ during the ‘Past 6 Months’ is probably the best.

REMEMBER THE -

3-step formula For Creating Successful Content:

Step #1: Find content in your niche that has already done well.

Step #2: Make it even better.

Step #3: Promote it directly to people that would be interested in it.

We are now ready for ‘Step #2:

Step #2: Make Your Content Better

People naturally want the best.

4 Ways To Be The Best:

1. Make It Current & Up-To-Date – (Beats what’s out there.)

2. Make It More Complete & Comprehensive & Brief – (“They” want it
All-In-One-Place & Organized.)

3. Improve The Design – (how it looks makes it ‘Stand-Out’ & seem
Trustworthy)

4. Make It Informative, Interesting & Enjoyable – (better Content =
better Results)

Step #3 : Promote To Interested People

If you want to build and increase your online audience, you need “Them” to Link to your Content AND Share your Content.

It is not productive or efficient to just ‘Publish’ & ‘Pray’.

Therefor, you must PROMOTE your Content.

Content Promotional Considerations:

Find Passionate Folks that are likely to ‘Link to’ & Share your Content.

·Folks outside of your Niche may also be candidates.

·Find These Folks & Others by discovering your Competitor’s ‘Linkers’, since your Content is better.

·Find who’s linked to you competitor’s content by using these Tools: Moz’s Open Site Explorer, Majestic SEO, & Ahrefs. (Ahrefs is easiest to use and has an up-to-date list of links.)

·Send ‘Them’ an email. Tell ‘Them’ about your “Better” Content.

·On ‘Forums’, you’ll find lots of people, all in one place, that are interested in your topic.

[Side Note:]

·I would really appreciate your ‘Feedback’.

·Please don’t just hit the “Like Button” without a comment; that leaves an empty feeling & lots of ‘Notifications’.

·If you know of other folks that would benefit, please, send them to my Profile to read this & my other similar Posts.

·If you would like similar Post about some other Topics, I would like your suggestions. What can I help you with?

·If you have or know of similar Post, I would like your recommendations. I’m not interested in ‘Chit-Chat’ or ‘Small-Talk’ posts.

·Lets ‘Pay-It-Forward’ & ‘Back-And-Forth’.

·I’m here to ‘Give’ & ‘Receive’.

·Lets convert “Unknowns” into “Knowns”.

Yours truly,

OMG Wally, that's a Ton of information in 857 words. You've probably saved me hours upon hours of trying to figure out how to write great content.
Thank you very much. Phil

Great source references and tips. One thing I noticed is the curator section. You may want to expand on this as curation can be bad if not done correctly. Remember your content needs to be original. Kyle wrote a great lesson on this.

Doug

Yes, Plagiarism must be avoided. You may want to post a Link to Kyle's Lesson.

This is the link to Kyle's lesson on curation. It's more than just plagiarism.

Barry

Great advice! I have this thing that I do with information for a review or a blog I am going to write. I copy and paste into my Microsoft word the information that I retrieve from other content on the web. I then create my own review or blog in my own words from the information I retrieved from several sources.
The nice thing is that I have it right on the page to refer to while I am writing, when I am done I just delete that content then copy and paste my content into my website page or post.
Works better than taking notes or jumping in and out of windows where the content is.
Have a great day!
Kim

Good idea Kim. Thanks.

Thanks, it makes it so much easier. :)

@kholmes - In the past I used the MS Word method you described but now a use a Free Program called * SideWriter * for all my Note taking & Content building/writing. Google it. I think you will really like it.

Thanks Wally. Haven't heard of that one.
