SEO Tips ~ Slow Down, You Move Too Fast!

Last Update: September 11, 2014

Hello World!

I've spent hours answering questions here on WA which I love to do, it's my "happy place", but it seams like so very many are making the same mistake! They are trying to go too fast and it's so obvious, sometimes I just want to reach out and hold their hand.

Because our lessons start off talking about keyword phrase and how it effects Search Engine Optimization (SEO), many are jumping the gun and worrying too much about other aspects of SEO way too soon! In my other blogs I've talked about this, so I'm not going to beat a dead horse. What I want to do is to try to explain SEO and why these keywords are so important in the VERY beginning stage of your lessons.

In short, so you won't have to go back later and change everything, you must first do your keyword research on your niche, as you were taught. (Naturally you MUST have your niche selected first) Most importantly, each keyword phrase that you use must be included in your page/post title and only used once for one page/post only. That's why you're gathering several phrases, one per page/post!

Then, second most important, this same exact Phrase must be placed in your post content (blog) for that page. You were taught to place this in the first paragraph but I don't agree with that at all. For reasons I'll explain later, it's best to place the Phrase in the first sentence of the first paragraph. Then again in the last paragraph. Then there's a thing called Keyword Density!

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimization keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. Personally, I like this to be around 2% or in other words, 2 keyword phrases per 100 words.

And that's it! As you go through your lessons, you will learn more and more about SEO so don't rush it! Here's a shot of an analysis on my Parental Alienation Rights Home Page that shows where I've placed my keyword phrase, but this page is almost complete, and I know what I'm doing, so again....slow down if you're moving too fast!

In closing, before you take anyone's word as the gospel truth, ask them to prove it. Well, I love to be asked that, no worries but remember, I'm not finished with this page yet. It needs a lot more content! Regardless:

To see a lot more about what I have done to achieve that score, go to OnPage SEO Tool and type in parentalalienationrights.com, answer the captcha with "check seo" and then click the BLUE bar "Check SEO Score" to get the complete analysis. If you are asked what keywords, type in mine which is "parental alienation", in case you haven't figured that out :-)

Of course you can do this on your own, but PLEASE don't get caught up in it until you think you are finished, okay?

Luv, Wallace

If you've read this far, then you deserve a tip:

  1. When checking your site after you've made changes, start at the beginning and then click the "refresh score" button.
  2. If you stay on the page and make changes, you don't have to start over again. Just refresh the whole page and then click the "refresh score" button.
  3. Pay attention to your "image tags" as they are important. Just add your keyword phrase in the alternate text each time you upload an image.
  4. Not that it matters in this case, but link back each image as I have done on the above images. This is also an option when you upload each image. If you want to know why, just ask, I'm tired, I think I'll sleep now.....

Thanks, Wallace! And I agree with you. People aren't following the lessons one step at a time. It's soooooooo tempting to hop, skip and jump over, but the only one you hurt is yourself.

Thanks Wallace! A very interesting testing tool. I tried one of my recent pages and hit 80%. I guess a little tweaking is needed! I do wonder why WA does not know about this tool, or do they? Is it's use recommended? Is the information that is generated accurate? This is why I love the WA community: we get other's points of view!

Hey Howard, I'm sure WA knows about this and many others like I do, but they don't recommend any that I know of. Why? Maybe it's just too much work for newbies already, and to start giving tools would possible preoccupy the brains.

Now the reason I disclosed this tool is because I've tested it and it worked for me. Get this, my Home Page went to the 16th position in just two weeks! Now really get this, I was just testing it knowing that the page wasn't going to be my home page. Sooooo, I changed/built my static home page two days ago and nooowww, I'm not ranked at all... LOLOLOLOL

We'll see what happens... Luv, Wallace
