How the colour yellow affects the senses

There is a realy anomaly about the colour yellow. Although it's associated with sun and happiness and optimism, it is a colour that causes people to lose their tempers and babies will cry more if they're stuck in yellow rooms. Too much yellow can cause people to feel nauseous and give them a headache. It can also cause anxiety.

However, it is an attention grabber, enhances concentration and speeds metabolism. Legal pad are yellow for this reason. Combined with black it often used as a warning.

Use of yellow on websites

Yellow is considered to be the most difficult colour for the eye to take in and process, so it's important that you don't overuse it as it can be overpowering.

It's a great colour to use as highlights and good if you're promoting children's products.

However, because of the 'child' association it is a colour that is not necessarily recommended when selling prestigious expensive items to men.

You may think then that the Ferrari brand goes against the grain, but the colours of the car don't tend to be yellow.

Yellow can disappear into white as shown above, so it's best to use yellow with a dark colour or black to highlight it with.

Great resource to add BIS, this is something many new people including myself often forget to take it account when designing or picking a color scheme. Thanks

Thanks Craig. I'm probably the opposite of you. I spend a lot of time fussing around with the colours - but generally to my taste, not necessarily that of my visitors.
