Grammar Nazi
OK, so I’ve been called a grammar Nazi before but it’s one of those things that bug me. Everyone has that one thing right? I received a text from my youngest the other day. He messed up “they’re” and “there”. I hadn’t even finished reading the first text when another popped up with the proper word. I had to laugh.
The English language can be very difficult. There are so many words that sound the same yet have different meanings.
Like Loes, I’ve been reviewing random websites (although I don’t have a lottery). LOL. Most sites are very well written but some have grammar issues. I realize that for some English is not your first language. I not only admire you for creating a website in English but, in this case, I’m not speaking to you. It’s understandable that you have problems with certain words and I will just continue to help you make corrections.
I admit that I have an issue with then and than no matter how many times these words are explained to me. However, by far, the most misused words are:
You’re, Your
They’re, Their and There
Too, To, Two
Back on November 21, 2014, I wrote a blog concerning grammar.

Here’s the chart again.
If you know you have issues with any of these words, please double check. Personally, if I go into a website and it has a lot of words misspelled or not used properly, I’ll get out of it. These things taint the quality of the site for me. That may sound harsh. Yet our sites are seen by many people and should be professional.
OK, the mother lecture is over. Go create.

Oops I jst mde a spelllingggg mistaike, haha, just pushing your buttons there. You are definitely right though, there are a lot of spelling mistakes out there. Of all the sites that I have reviewed previously, I have definitely pointed out grammar and spelling errors to most of them in my critiques. It definitely does discourage the reader to proceed from reading any more of their content if it is just messy and full of significant errors. Thought you did a great job of pointing this out :)
Thank you. So, have you been in contact with my kids..... learning which buttons to push? LOL.
Guilty over here.. it drives me crazy. In fact, I often click straight off a website if the grammar and spelling are bad. Not ones referred via WA - I can seemingly overlook it if I know English isn't the first language of the author.
It's and its always get me though.. have to look it up almost every time for reassurance.

It's actually very simple. With the apostrophe, it simply means "it is". So if you're writing a sentence with it, just ask yourself, 'can I use 'it is' instead of it's'. If you CAN'T...then it should be spelt as "its"... such as, "the object was very large and its weight made it quite heavy".
Hi Ben! Good explanation.
I think it's because, using your example above, if we're talking about something possessive to the object (its weight).. and something possessive to me is Claire's.. so my tendency is to add the apostrophe where it's not needed.. I don't ever tend to miss it out.
But hey, we all have our foibles, right :)

LOL, I'm a grammar nazi too, but in Swedish. I work hard on writing correctly in English but it really is a tough language to master!

I'm good at grammar too and agree with you, and that's how I do most my helping when reviewing a site too!
Of course you are good at grammar, you're a booklover remember :)
Hmmmmm, I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps it's in a book lover's genes. I am one as well.
Great to hear :)
