Hey Stratos,

You've not mentioned what theme and plugins you're using.

GeneratePress has been the recommended theme for several years running now. They even include an option for mobile use that can be activated.

Yes, many WordPress themes are really not so compatible with mobile devices.

And, limiting plugins and removing unnecessary plugins has always been advised.

Plugins like SiteKit can be such hogs on bandwidth that I'm sure these types of plugins cause even more issues on mobile devices than desktop/laptop devices.

In case you've not seen this tutorial, you may find it to be helpful: Hope you find this helpful.

Also Kyle's resource what plugins are acceptable

Hello everyone. I wanted to ask concerning my traffic. In the last three days I notice in the Google Analytics an enormous drop in my traffic to the point it is almost zero. Bu

And thanks for solutions and update :)

OK it seems that problem is solved. I think because we added the codes manually and not through a plugin like sitekit when wordpress updated it deleted two of the three codes and left only the universal analytics code. Now it seems to be working again.

So to anyone that has added the GA4 code manually when wordpress updates always check if the code is still intact.

You are right, I totally forgot about when updates happen code gets removed -_-

Woohoo! Congrats :)

Yeah, definitely not working for me too. Universal Analytics works pretty fine.

Hello
I have noticed that someone else said the same thing a few days ago, so I don't think it is you, but GA4 has something going on there. Even more if your GSC is still ok.
And how about your Universal analytics?
My GA4 is still normal though at the moment.
Also, are you sure that your GA4 code is still in your wordpress? Maybe check it out with site support if it is still there, it happened to me in the past that somehow it got deleted.
Lizzy

Hasn't universal analytics stopped processing data? Because when I enter the property I don't see any data anymore and a message at the top says this property has stopped processing data.

But I will check if the GA4 codes are still in. Because I think they are not and I have no idea how they got deleted.

Well, I thought so too that it stopped working, but when I checked it still did. I've been told that it will stop completely somewhere in october? I have no clue if this counts for everyone.

Yes you are right old GA still works on all of my sites. GA4 is active yet I always have warning to finish its activation. No idea what is going on.

If you use GeneratePress theme, you can do all there, no need for plugins. There is a great Elements feature under Appearance. So add all codes of that type there.

I didn't even know that and I have GP premium haha, good to know!

It is very useful, use Hook option (but there are several others as well) there to add codes like GA, author under post profile, Pinterest code, etc. It allows for choosing posts or to add site-wise.

great idea thanks! I could drop another plugin then (site kit)

I have a problem that no one seems to know why it is happening. I will describe in as much detail my problem.

Let’s say for example that I add 10 images in one of

I have been back and forth between WA support, GeneratePress support and Wordpress support and so far our findings are the following.

MacOS the photo appears sharp.
Android the photo appears sharp.
Windows/FireFox the photo appears sharp.
Linux/Chromium the photo appears sharp.

Only with Chromium based browsers/Windows it appears blurry.

Hey Stratos,

It sounds though you do not understand what resolution is. Resolution is the dots per inch. What you appear to be explaining is your image's width and height size.

I agree with Phil (aka foreigner) that your images are way to tiny, thus blurry.

Instead of uploading those giant images, if you resize them to the EXACT size you want to use on your web page, and THEN upload them; I think you will find that works best.

Personally, when using image that I want to have sit to the right of a paragraph, I tend to use 300 for my image width.

If you're using Windows then you have access to the photo editing software called Paint. To find tutorials on that subject, check out the screen print below that shows you how to find them.

Hope you find this helpful.

I am using Photoshop for 20 years. I know exactly what resolution is and how to optimize them for fast loading. The problem is not that.

Hi, Stratos

Interesting problem.

I use GeneratePress and all my images look great on PC, Windows, tablet, and smartphone.

I’m using Windows 11 and the latest version of Wordpress.

Images always look clearer on my iPhone, due to the higher screen resolution, compared to my Mac and PC monitors.

If GeneratePress support is not finding (vs. seeing) the problem, it’s very unlikely that it’s your theme configuration, and more likely something affecting WordPress adversely.

Did you have them take a look at an actual page from a display coding perspective?

Have Site Support make you a staging copy and try different themes and everything else you can think of.

You’ve probably already done this, but I would disable all your plugins, one by one, and see if that corrects the problem.

Code changes in updated plugins can cause display problems, so it’s worth a try, even if you haven’t added new ones.

I resize all my images in the block editor using the predefined sizes (25, 50, 75, 100%) or the image sizing handles, to keep the aspect ratio constant.

To get you closer to my property functioning workflow, try using Canva instead of photoshop to process and resize your images.

When you’ve tried all the obvious things, the next step is to apply corrective measures that are very unlikely to provide the solution.

Give me a link to a problematic post and I’m happy to try it on my Mac.

Frank

After going back and forth with both WA and GeneratePress support I have a small clue of where the problem may be. WA support told me they could also see the problem with the blurry photo and they use Windows. On the other hand GeneratePress support uses MacOS and they can see the image sharp and not blurry. Me on the other hand I tested this in two Windows 11 laptops and both show the image blurry. My Samsung smartphone on the other hand show the image sharp.

I am wondering if this is a windows/wordpress issue as both Chrome and Edge browser shows these images blurry in my computer.

If some of you people have MacOS and willing to give it a try and tell me how it looks to you please send me a message and I will provide you a link.

You can check out your EWWW pluggin. If you have this on your website. Deactivate and see what happens.

I am not using EWWW or any image optimization plugin for that matter.

Nice to see you on the platform, Loes. It seems like forever.

Success with finding the culprit, wouldn't it be nice if everything went smoothly for once?

Thank you:)

Good to see you, it has been a long while :)

Hi Loes - just for interest, WA no longer uses EWWW; they install Kraken instead.

I know, any image optimizer can give this problem

Thanks, I see you a lot:) I follow up WA questions everyday, just once in a while I pop-in

I am trying to fix all Google Search errors I have in my website and I get the following error in some of my pages

The

So from all the replies I see here I can safely say that no one really knows how to fix these errors and there is no definite answer on what causes them. Google search is a hot mess really. So many errors with no real explanation on how these happen or how to fix them.

Hi, I think I know why some of your urls appear. I have them in my sites as well and they appear as internal links. Here is how.

I want to say something like "hey see more products of this brand here in the site", then I go to the search bar and type the name of the brand. This lists all their products, I pick up the url created and use it as my internal link. There is nothing wrong in doing this, at least this is what I think.

Your example

http://www.example.com/?s=Siemens+Q900dishwasher

is of that type. You probably wanted to link to this product, searched in the search bar to find it, and then picked up the search url and used as an internal link by mistake, instead of using the actual post url.

I think there is no harm in this, and you can simply ignore this in GSC. But you can probably find such links and replace. The other example seems to be of a similar origin but I am not sure.

So do not remove search bar, this is useful for readers and for yourself as well. If my interpretation of these urls is correct, these urls will not disappear if you remove search bar.

Your explanation is very good. But I have never used the search bar to add any internal links. Ever! When I want to add internal links I always use the url I have created for that specific page.

One thing that I don't understand is this. If search bar is creating these urls, since they do not exist in the sitemap or in the wordpress dashboard how is Google finding them? Where do these exist???

I wish I knew. I have them 306 in one site. For almost all of them the origin is unclear.

Most of them have extension that looks like this

/?replytocom=851

the number that you see is of course different for each, so my guess is they come from comments. But I have no idea how they are created and why.

Many come from searches. Why? No idea.

So this is a complete mess, the same in every site. But when you ask and get useless replies similar to some of those you have here, you get impression that other people do not have such problems, I am sure everybody has them.

Thank you all for your answers. The Rank Math article explain things pretty well but there is a problem in my case. The pages that appear with this error have not been created by me, they are not in my sitemap and I have no idea how Google sees something that I do not know where it is.

To give you a small example of one such page. Let's say that my website url is

http://www.example.com/dishwasher-review

The url that shows in Google Search with this error is

http://www.example.com/dishwasher-review?fbclid=IwAR364fhBtytbbuTguntgY2kERNqKAbT9dwR-A2JcW7CrGDUr9y77qE5DhLRhvTlMvQ

Or another will show like

http://www.example.com/?s=Siemens+Q900dishwasher

Both pages are just examples and not real ones. But this is the kind of urls it shows me that I have no idea how they are created and how Google sees them since they do not exist in my wordpress dashboard.

this looks like you have everything ticked in your sitemap...
ideally you have posts, pages maybe categories and if you must tags...maybe images...
but not the additions..or something like that...
these look like parts of hte pages - so comments or such like...
or searches ....
this is what the ? means - part of the page but possibly an addon..
and these are being indexed individually and google is saying it shouldn't be...
so worth a look through your seo plugin and see what you can find...

I think (but far from sure) those with ? tend to be due to searches. No idea how they appear and why, but this is definitely not ticked in my settings, only posts are pages are there, yet lots of this stuff somehow appears in GSC.

Ok this one I can relate to.

http://www.example.com/?s=Siemens+Q900dishwasher

GSC had similar URLs of mine it was wanting me to fix.
Go into the GSC report and see if you can find the referring page.
In my case the referring page was another of mine, which GSC said it didn't have a site map for (again).
So, (in my case), there was little I could do and there was little SEO damage anyway as it just goes to another indexed page. But, thinking about why it would come from another of my pages, I concluded someone used the search bar on my site, hence the /?s= mark. So I got rid of the search bar.

Your other problem is way above my pay grade.

Maybe if your theme has additional blocks to WordPress there may be a conflict there. Choose on or the other not both.
I have a vague recollection of someone mentioning that a while back.

Michael.

What is the meaning of 'referring page' you mentioned? Why did you remove the search bar? Are you saying that such searches somehow create these urls? I also suspect this is so, but do not understand why and how this happens.

Anyway, I would not remove search bar. These urls do not seem harmful in any case.

The referring page is another page on my site.
I checked this by doing a URL inspection.
So yes the search does create the URLs (in my opinion it is a query, hence the /?s= in the URL.
Like I said above this is way above my pay grade.
But...
Google tells us that "Alternative page with proper canonical tag" relates to duplicate content.
So how the referring page, a crypto mlm is in any way duplicate content of "how to open a bakery" Is beyond my comprehension.
So I just got rid of the search bar.
And probably the site will go before too much longer as well.

After you got rid of the search bar did these errors in the specific urls go away?

I don't know yet Stratos.
To be honest I still have the search icon up in my header
But I got rid the search bar in the widget area.
We will see what happens.
I have had problems signing into to windows today so sorry if this is a little late.

I still have the search icon up in the header near the social icons.
But I lost the search bar in the widget area.
To be honest I doubt that I will reinstate it.

Ok I have been suffering through this too.
Hopefully this makes some sense as I found it quite frustrating.
Go through all your articles and make sure you have not included them in more than two categories >article +something else<
I have been reducing them to just one category, either article or one of my other categories. I have 8 on my menu.
Go check your site menu, it may need some work to make sure the URLs are going to the menu they are supposed to be.

Once you have all that cleaned up get a new sitemap and submit to Google.
One other thing I was struggling with was GSC was showing me URLs with question marks in the url and deindexing them and just using my site name as the canonical.

Without going into to great detail (it might be a conspiracy theory anyway), I got rid of the search bar on my site.

Hope this is of some help .

That is valuable information, as I have multiple sites under one category and am using the search on my website.

Thank you, Michael
Regards, Matt

Ok Matt.
No problems with GSC if someone does a search on your site?
Michael.

Hey Stratos,

Not sure if you've tried this idea or not yet... thus, here goes...

What I do when receiving a prompt like that is to search using the prompt, and using your prompt, I simply searched "fix Alternate page with proper canonical tag" (without the quotation marks, of course), and Google served up several, what appears to be, helpful tutorials that are being offered by several DIFFERENT websites.

Hopefully, one of those tutorials may be able to help you... unless you've already gone through all of them.

I use Rank Math and it explains this here

https://rankmath.com/kb/alternate-page-with-proper-canonical-tag/

https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2013/04/5-common-mistakes-with-relcanonical

I am not sure how helpful that will be for you. The second link may not be related to this but Google does make the changes themselves, so read the link. It's pretty straightforward.

Thank you, Brenda. I have been referencing RankMath for researching problems with Indexing errors. It has helped with some things, but it all seems so technical with jargon and double-speak.
At times a page will be indexed and stay that way for weeks or months, but then an indexing error will suddenly crop up.
Another thing I noticed is the page will be ranked in the WA site ranking tool but showed as an indexing error on Google.
Thanks again, Brenda.

Regards, Matt

I have that same problem. I learned what not to do. The best resource for me was watching Jack Cao on YouTube for Rank Math. I encourage you to watch his videos. They are worth it.

I use Rank Math and it explains this here

https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2013/04/5-common-mistakes-with-relcanonical
