You DO NOT want to link to a spam site; Never mind what Google (Bing, Yahoo, etc. ) will think about it, which will not be good!

You can do rel=nofollow as you mentioned in your other recent question about affiliate links. In general, I don't link to spam sites though. I'd write the URL with no hyperlink if you want to make some kind of point in the article, so people can copy/paste if they really want to visit.

Thanks, for clearing the doubt!

I am not sure what you are trying to do here? Why would you link to a spam website? What are you trying to do.

You can link to other sites without issue, but the main thing that will really impact your rankings is if you create low quality content, you are adding affiliate links everywhere on your site, or you have duplicate content on your website.

It was just a question, LOL. I haven't added any external links to a SPAM website but I wanted to know what happens when you do. And I had another question which I possibly missed, how do you know a website is a SPAM website?
.

It will not only affect your ranking your site could be banned altogether.

Having a low hanging keyword helps you rank your website faster? Has anyone tried it? Please give me some input on this.

Thanks

You gotta be kidding me. If you can find a bestwhatever dot com name go for it. Matt Cutts has said a lot of things about the Google Search Engine that don't seem to hold up to scrutiny or analysis.

Best-whatever and best-what-ever domain names work well too. Kyle explains this in the trainings. Go for either a brandable name, or a name with the description of your niche (if available).

Good question to bring up.

I get your point but again, I was thinking if it helped anyway in the case of small niche websites where the website is just going to be about a specific product and something like a small side business.

Be careful putting product names in a domain name. This usually leads to trouble. Amazon won't accept you if you do that with their product.

Yeah, I would never do that :)

Kyle has a good post on this: For me, I try to get a good keyword when I can. But if I have a topic I want to do because the niche is interesting or popular, I just get any domain name I can.

You can probably still wiggle your keywords in no matter what though:

I completely understand what you said but was just wondering if it helped in the case of small niche sites because they would increase the keyword juice along with the posts on the site.

Will look into both the blog posts, thank you Nathaniell.

Yes, it has helped me in some instances. One example is my motion sensor sprinkler site: http://motionsensorsprinkler.com/

Yes, I have seen that site. A few other small niche websites are doing well that way. The ones which have like limited posts and pages and are just a small business.

Having keywords in domain names has decreased significantly over the years. Here's a link to a video by Matt Cutts (google SEO guru):

"Now if you are still on the fence, let me just give you a bit of color. that we have looked at the rankings and the weights that we give to keyword domains, & some people have complained that we are giving a little too much weight for keywords in domains. So we have been thinking about at adjusting that mix a bit and sort of turning the knob down within the algorithm, so that given 2 different domains it wouldn't necessarily help you as much to have a domain name with a bunch of keywords in it. - Matt Cutts"

I would have thought that having keywords in the domain name wouldn't hurt, but, maybe....

While having keywords in the domain name probably won't hurt you, any benefit of having them there has diminished greatly over the years.

Okay, that was informative. Thanks Bob :)

I have been getting that impression!

Thank-you Mickey :)

Can having external links in the content help in getting content ranked faster? Or is it better to completely avoid them?

External links are needed to make the sale (after you explain everything there is to know about the product) help your visitor with giving them advice and use the external link to sell.
I also always put 2 to 3 internal links also, for example, if the have another problem x, they can view another page or post on your website (create internal link there)
Does that help you?

Do you mean an external link to the seller's site?
I'm asking about external links to other authoritative website within the same niche.

Yes, the sellers site.
After you help your visitor...
After you offer the content...
Then add the external links to show them where to buy and what to buy to solve their problem.

According to SEO lore, yes, it does help rank. I don't have any hard evidence that it does though. So I just try to use external links when they help me create a better user experience, and better content. I would not overdo it, but some external links are OK.

Yeah, a few here say that linking to other websites might result in losing a potential buyer to the other site.

I would follow Nathaniell's advise.

"Losing potential buyers" is a real concern, for sure, but people are smart. They can figure out when to stay on your page and when to leave. You can't "trick" people to stay on your page forever, so you might as well create a complete page with good info, even if you have to link out sometimes to make a point or provide proof of what you say.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks :)

Good external links, you know those that are AUTHORITY websites will help a little, but sending readers to just any old site is not a good idea.

The question should be: "Do I want to send my valuable visitors to a site that may take them away or simply help me make the point I am trying to make?"

Yes, exactly, that is my doubt. When I have an external link to an authoritative website then there are chances that they might take away a potential buyer, so does external linking help after all?

External linking, if it to an authority site can help with SEO, but you do not want to include too many of them on any page because Google may want to know about the quality of your content if you are trying to send people away!

You almost always need to send your visitors to your affiliate website, but other than that, be careful, be very careful!

Mickeyb

from what i have read it seems that it does help. If you need some more info enter external links in the grey search bar and see what comes up. hope this helps

I try reading blogs but most of the times I get confused, this is a tricky topic for me.
