Title Tags For Ranking
Best Title Tag For Your Web Pages
Hi Folks
With regards to search engine optimization, the single most important words that you will write for your website will be within the title of your primary page. When you write it properly then you will have taken a major step towards having your site well located in search engine queries for your important keywords.
Just before I give you a step-by-step guide to writing title tags, let's determine what they actually are and see why they are important. When you take a look at a web page in your browser, the writing in the blue strip
above browser's instructions (file, edit, view, etc) is the title tag. Within your actual html document the name tag is in the head portion between your title text <title> and </title>.
Have a good look at the graphics below to get some idea just what I'm talking about in this blog.
The title tag is important because it "tells" the search engines what the page is about, and in the case of your main web page, what your website is all about. Its like writing a short story, but before you get started you have to ask yourself: "What would be the best title for this story? " Determining on a title is something similar to answering this kind of question. You have got to take the gist of your enterprise and highlight it in a sentence. Have a look at your own website and follow the steps below:
1. Make sure your three or four most important keywords/keyword phrase appears in the title tag. The most important words should primarily be at the beginning of the sentence, and they can be repeated within the sentence for added emphasis. For example, if I am offering low-cost web design, then my title tag might look like this: <title>Web Design: Affordable, Low Cost Web Design from Robert Allan's Web Design Company</title>
2. Although it is a natural tendency to want to put your business name at the start of the title, you should remember that until you are incredibly well known, people wont have a clue who you are. And so, put your most important keywords in front of the title tag, and set up your brand name with your logo and other components of the web page. If your business name includes your keywords, like my hypothetical Web Design Company, then place it in the title tag, although not always at the beginning.
Also the name tag is no place for your sales message. Leave your branding and sales pitch for another section of the web page
3. Place your geographical or niche-defining term in your title tag. If you are trying for an initial page listing in the SERPs for a term such as "web design, " then you will find you are in for a difficult struggle. Nevertheless, suppose my Web Design Company is based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Then simply rather than attempting the almost impossible task of getting the best rankings for the term "web design, it would be more effective to get a high ranking in the geographical niche by using a title marking such "Web Design, Edinburgh, Scotland:
Low priced Web Design and Style in Edinburgh, Scotland, by Robert Allan's Website Development Company"
4. The title tag can be longer than you think. It was once somewhere between 60/66 but since last December it has risen up to 70. However it is true that just the first 70 characters will show in the top bar of the web browser, but search engine robots will read the rest of the tag and search engines such as google will not penalize you for going over the 70 character mark.

Take a look at highly ranked sites in intensely competitive categories and you will see instances of long title tags. Write down your tag according to your need to get your important phrases included in a sentence that best describes what your services or products is about.
5. You should vary the title tags on the inner pages of your website. Despite a long title tag, it isn't possible to highlight all the possible search terms which someone might use to find your website. This is not a problem if you use the other pages of your website. Instead of simply having a title tag that says "services" my web design firm could emphasize "low cost, web site design services" on that page. The "contact" page could be used to emphasize the location once again, and so on.
Many websites make the error of repeating the same name tag on each of the inner pages of the internet site. Avoid this and use each of your page's titles to concentrate on important keywords and key phrase phrases.
Here's a link to a great SERP Preview Tool that will give you a pretty good idea how your - title tag, meta description, and URL will appear in a Google search result.

Titles are important for SEO, but are they used as a ranking factor? Of course, they are definitely used as a ranking factor but it is not something where I’d say the time you spend on tweaking the title is really the best use of your time. Saying that you should get it right first time before you publish.
Ok folks there you have it so take a look at your website's title tags, and see if you can improve on them in future. The effort that you make will be well worth your while with regard to your listing in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).
Anyone with any other tips or advice can of course leave them via a comment below.
Have an awesome weekend and be successful.

Hello Monica and thank you for your comment.
Always best to bookmark the blogs you know will help you later on and of course to come back to as a refresher.
Have a great Saturday.
Robert
Thanks Robert for this great training. I've never paid much attention to title tags but solely focused on finding the best possible keyword and use it as the title of my page or post. I will go through my site and try adding some interesting title tags.
Hi John and thank you for reading the blog and for your comment.
John I did say -
get it right first time before you publish
This is because your Title Tag becomes your Permalink URL and that is what the search engines see.
When I said - improve on them - I meant in future
You should read another of my blogs here - Does Your Title Describe Your Article Have a great Saturday.

Hey Robert, awesome post and I tagged it. These tips are quite helpful as are many of your tips. I am just curious, why not turn your material into training modules? It could give you a boost in income.
Hi James and thank you for taking time out to read my blog and for your comment.
I'm a writer James and don't do trainings.
I was a trainer for over 10 years in my old 9 to 5 and although I was very good at it I have no inclination to do it any more.
As a matter of curiosity do you mean within WA ot as an income source on the internet.
I only ask because I have just sent a PM to a lady in the US about just such an enterprise to publish a series of eBooks from all the blogs I've published within WA so far.
It would be a lot of work but she said she wouldn't mind putting them together and taking care of the publishing as well.
Maybe worth giving it some serious thought but needs some more discussion.
Now I'm off for the night as its getting late.
Have a great Friday.
Robert
Hey Robert, that makes sense. I meant training here. It would be essentially doing exactly what you did in this blog but it would be labeled as a training module so you'd get the credit for it. Just food for thought. Still appreciate the effort either way.
Have a great weekend!
Best Regards,
Jim
No probs Jim
But I will stick to blogs for now.
I have never set out to make money from WA.
I'm a tutor/mentor and have been for several years now and that's how I earn an income.
My two sites I give members access to are for informational purpose for the membership and the public at large.
Now I'm def off for the night.
Robert

Hi Lauren and thank you for stopping by.
Yes there is a lot in my blog but that's because all week I have been getting questions asked about 'Where To Start' when creating content for sites.
Of course this starts with Titles.
This should be a problem for a 'Blogger Mom' like your good self though lol.
Best to bookmark for future reference though.
Enjoy your Friday and the weekend ahead.
Robert
Thanks for the reminder Robert, there are so many things to keep track of with good SEO, but this is really important. Excellent post, thank you.

Great training on title tags, Robert! Very easy to follow!
Also, to be clear for newbies, the Title Tag and Meta Tag are the same thing. Is this correct?
Curious, here in the Site Rubix platform, other than in the html source code between <title></title>, where can WE enter our title tags?
How do I tweak my title tag in Site Rubix, or can I only enter it within the html source code?
Hello Kaju and thank you for reading my blog.
The Title Tag is one of the Meta Tags.
Hope you went away with a tip or two that will help you with your own title tags.
A simple change of your Tag Line you can do within your Wordpress Settings, General.
OR
If you are using Yoast and you want to insert a piece of code in your WP Editor the recommended way would be to use a plugin like WordPress SEO.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/
Install it, and replace the <title> tag in your header.php file with:
<title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title>
Have a great Saturday.
Robert
Hi Again Kaju.
Thought you might want to see this pic.
Lots of good info and it shows the different codes as well.
Robert
Thanks Robert, this graph is very helpful!
I am trying to relate how the Title Tag (Meta Title) is represented on WP Dashboard to how it is done on Wix.com (where my music site resides).
Yes, I will study this!
Hi Kaju, I can't help you with WIX I'm afraid coz I have never used it.
Enjoy your Sunday and the week to come.
Robert
So from this graph you present, one can say that the Title Tag is also in most cases the same as the permalink, is that right, Robert?
Hello Kaju
Yes it is
Your Title will always become your Permalink.
You can of course change your Permalink BEFORE you publish.
Have a read of this blog of mine - Does Your Title Describe Your Article Have a great Saturday.
Robert
Thanks a million Robert, very helpful as always. Bookmarked your article.
No probs Kaju and hope you got everything sorted out.

Now I'm off out for a few hours to blow away the cobwebs.
