I have started building a new website and I did a lot of research into choosing a colour palette that I like. The problem is, today I discovered that one of my closest competit

If there's a different layout the colors shouldn't really matter much. However, do make sure that the colors you've picked look good. For example, a lot of times the palette picks a weird or subtle color for links. If people have to guess whether or not something is a link, that's not good. From our years of training, we automatically know that something in blue is a link; just having it be a softer color than the other type around it isn't always enough. The user is the most important person always.

Got that link thing covered - I've been a web designer and developer for 20+ years :P I just really like my colour scheme, it took me almost 2 days to decide! But I just don't want to have it seem like I copied the other guy - especially since he's been ranking on first page for a while.

Is anyone using Aweber that can answer a question for me? I have a signup on my site for a free email course, and I am getting quite a few signups per day but about 99% of them

If you have that many means you need to change the message that goes out automatically when someone signs up asking then to confirm their email. Including what Triblu said. Tell them to check their junk mail, etc.

Hey Nancy,

I have a site where memberships are created and after asking ... one of the members said he never received the automated message from the membership site. Claims that maybe it got put in his junk folder and he deleted it without paying attention.

So ... my question to you is ... do you know for certain that the verification emails are getting delivered? In other words, did you make sure to test everything previously and that all forms and emails were getting delivered properly?

If so ... you might want to ask your sign ups to whitelist you email address ... or be sure to check their junk folders ... once they've signed up, of course.

Aweber unconfirmed signups are high?

I have a site that is slowly increasing the clickthrough rate as it ages, however, people are not buying. I am getting quite a few people that come into Amazon but only about 1

So there are two different things, clicks and conversion. It would be normal to have 10% clicks. You can see this from the number of page views and the number of clicks.

One sale here means 1% conversion. This is low, but check it in an interval of several months. There are million of possible reasons why this was low this month, season, expensive products, new products so not trusted (no reviews on Amazon), et. Anywhere 3-10% would be normal.

I do not see how aStore can help, people follow a keyword and you have no mechanism to direct them there. I have never understood the purpose of having it in the site. I had it in the beginning and it was totally useless.

I agree about the aStore - I can't see that it would be of much benefit. It's just weird - the product I am promoting is a brand name but there are plenty of options available on Amazon that are less expensive. I just think it's weird that people are interested enough in the topic to click through the "Buy It Now" button, yet don't buy *anything* once they get there :P The site is just young though, so maybe things will turn around as it ages more.

I'm thinking people are using your keywords as search terms but you don't actually have what they're looking for on your site.

See what Keywords are attracting people via your Webmasters.

An alternative is to have an Amazon aStore or several aStores on your site so that people will have more of a choice.
Robert Allan

But if it's not what they are looking for, why are they clicking through into Amazon? That's the part I don't get. The traffic on my site has been increasing, as are my clicks, they just don't seem to be buying. It's mysterious!

They will be just having a looksee the same as you would when you go into a shop.
You don't see what you want but you will still have a wander round.
That's the beauty of aStores.
There's so much more on offer and to catch the eyes of visitors to your site.
When they do click through they will have intention of browsing because they have already done that on your site.
Make Sense?

Is it possible to have one URL link to multiple products on Amazon? Kind of like having a pre-populated shopping list?

I know that you can use one URL for a category or you can have separate links to complementary products. Just make sure you're using the amazon disclaimer.

I know you can link to an Amazon search results page, but I am not sure if you can build a "list" of products, and link to that.

Yah, I want to have it more customized than just all of the products for a certain thing. I have a product that has add-ons, so I want to link to both the base product and it's add-on. I don't think it's possible, but I thought I'd ask. If it's not possible, it really should be :P
