Hard to Comment?

Everyone's commenting at the moment on how hard it is to find posts and pages to give comments on. I've responded to a few of those myself.

So I set myself a goal.

Ten comments in one day while doing other stuff.

10 Comments in 1 Day

Achieved it, but only by keeping comments open in one window while doing stuff in another and hitting Try Again Now every time I switched to the first window.

So it was relatively hard.

My own theory on this is that we are all pissed off with getting 1 credit for giving a well thought out, relevant, multi-paragraph comment on someone's blog post or landing page only to be charged 2 credits for a crap comment on mine.

I've only ever rejected one comment before. It was totally off topic and was a rant against Wealthy Affiliate, so an easy decision.

But after I'd left 10 quality comments on other sites, I spent 2 of those 10 credits requesting a comment on one of mine.

Rejected

The comment I received was in barely passable English. Look, I understand that English isn't your first language, but I've decided now that it's not my problem. It was a couple of sentences long and had only a tenuous connection to my original post. It certainly didn't "add value".

So I rejected it, and got another. Better but not all that great. I accepted it.

I know my standards are high, but just occasionally I'd like to get a comment that's of similar quality to those I give other members.

Please Tell Me

Am I being unreasonable?

Well Phil my theory on why there are so few people submitting the need for comments is that why pay credits if you can get it for free? This thread here allows you to submit the need for site comments free. Secondly I noticed that when you do site comments for others at the paid section then you are not able to submit your website url which does not allow you a backlink off their website.

If I go to the thread above where site comments are free, whenever I submit a comment I am able to submit my website url when I comment and therefore get a backlink as well on top of the fact that it is free. Further to this I am also allowed to submit my website article url right there on the thread for all to see which leads to more exposure, more site comments much quicker and might count as a further backlink.

So why would I and others pay for comments? That is my theory why there are so few comments submitted in the paid section.

I sometimes just use it when I really want loads of comments quick. I will then submit in both sections, the paid one and the free one.

To be honest I was surprised when I discovered the thread that was free for site comments as it defeats the point for the section to be there where people have to pay for site comments.

But this made me incredibly happy because that means we can really get out there now and get unlimited comments, as much as we want for free, depending on how much hard work we prepared to put in commenting on others' websites.

And what makes it even better is that it is Kyle that created the thread. :)

Ps. So my theory is that most of the site comments that are submitted in the paid section are by people that are not aware about this thread where they can get site comments for free.

I was unaware of this, Schalk, but will bookmark it and give it a go.

I am with you on this one Phil!

First, it's like winning the lottery just to be able to give a comment now! Then the comments received, well, 1 out of 5 makes grammatical sense and add value to my posts.

Just yesterday, I had to reject a comment because it was obvious that the person had not even read my post because it was going against what I was saying.

I am fed up with editing comments to make them acceptable.

From now on, I reject anything that I have to edit.

Totally agree. I won't edit.

I do not personally like the new platform for the comments...I know this is slightly off subject.. but how can you give good comments when you cannot find any?

Personally.. I do not think the Certified Status does anyone any good at all.. yes you can reach this status by leaving comments and then cashing them out later... but the Give And Take that it was supposed to be does not exist here in my opinion.

Whenever I go to try and leave comments for others in order to get the credits back, I cannot find any to give..

For the last times... I have found myself having to purchase credits to get the comments i need.. I find this really unfair when people are making the comments purely for the money and not asking for comments back... they take the money and run.

Over the last 3 weeks I have had some new posts in place.. and over the time I have been only able to find 4 comments only.. all the rest of my credits I had to purchase to get comments on my site!

So, I also have a question,,, how are some finding 10 comments per day to complete.. when I sit at my computer hour after hour trying to refresh and get one.. and they do not come?

Yes... all of my settings are correct and I asked to be fed comments across all of the categories.. Can I really be that unlucky only to find 4 in 3 weeks?

I feel personally that the system needs another rehash .. and I think the certified status needs to be binned... Give and Take back .. like it was before!

Just my 10cents worth.. and $100 bucks in credits!

Chris

Perhaps the new system is designed to try and get more people to purchase credits!
I also completely agree that a lot of the comments we receive are garbage.

Agree with you Chris.

Thank you so much, Chris.

I certainly don't understand why I've been able to find 11 comment requests today when you've been unable to find more than 4 in 3 weeks.

It indicates an issue with the algorithm and I may discuss it with Kyle and Carson.

You can comment on either of my active sites (pick any post or page that takes your fancy);

https://agingslowdown.com
https://thescamwarrior.com

and let me know what you would like me to comment on.

Maybe yes

Id love something to come of my point of view.. but we will see :)

Thanks Phil .. I will jump on your offer and let you know when I have done it :)

Much appreciated

At least you are getting comments back. I am not getting anything on my posts I make requests. I have commented on others posts and asked for the favor of a response to my posts. And nothing! I'm not going to give up. I will continue.

If you wish me to give a comment on any of your posts In will be happy to especially if you are able to reciprocate.

I don't understand, Edwin.

As soon as I post a request, I get a response. I would have thought the same would happen for everyone.

I have 2 active websites here:

https://agingslowdown.com
https://thescamwarrior.com

Have a look at them and pick any post or page you want to comment on.

Give me your websites and I'll do the same for you.

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil, thanks a lot. I am a newbie and just started to build my website. I would appreciate any constructive criticism from you. I have lots to learn and will check out your sites for that purpose.

myonestoplegal.com

Ask anything you like, Edwin. Happy to help.

I totally agree!

At the end of the day, it's YOUR business, so you have the final say about the quality of comments on your blog.

This morning, I received 3 comments. But all 3 had to be edited due to not making much grammatical sense, multiple filler words like "Thanks" etc, and only one line sentences providing some value.

To all those responsible, PLEASE read articles properly, stop saying "thanks for the informative article" and "I'm gonna share this with my friends", about a million times, and provide at least 50 words of "VALUE".

Filler words do absolutely NOTHING for visitors.

That is all.

I'm not going to edit someone else's comments.

Although I'm pedantic by nature, I won't correct someone else's spelling and grammatical errors.

If they've made a genuine effort to respond to my post or page, I'll approve it.

Otherwise, from now on, I'll reject it.

Like content, comments must make sense and pack value. If you don't edit comments where necessary, it's gonna have a negative impact on your user experience, not to mention Google will frown upon it as well thus potentially affecting rankings.

This is why both WA and WordPress allows us to "edit" comments. Plus the removal of spam links.

It's great that folks leave comments, but you must put your visitors and own success first.

It's about seeing the bigger picture.

It's not my opinion, but a true fact lol.

I take your point, Neil, and perhaps I should have said I won't extensively edit comments.

I'm now taking a much more hard-ass approach. If it requires extensive editing, I'll reject it.

If it requires extensive editing, it's not my problem. I'll reject it and wait for one that doesn't require extensive editing.

If it contains links, I'll trash it immediately.

That's putting my visitors and my own success first, as you suggest.

That's the spirit Phil! Lol.

I know it's not nice editing others work because they've made some effort and may take it as an insult. It's not something I'd like to happen to me (which is why I try to provide the best value I can).

But it's something that has to be done.

Your comment on someones site is also an experience for you. Consider it that way. By leaving a good comment, you develop your personal skills on web page design or content. Person who leaves a puar comment, punishes himself, as he will never develop skills to become a money earning online marketer. So cheer up and may the force be with you.

I totally agree with everything you say.

Nonetheless, we end up with a practical situation.

And I've decided the only way to handle it is to apply at least 50% of my own high standards to comments on my site. If they don't meet that reasonable standard, they will get rejected.

Hi,
I have to say I did send out for some comments and all of them I didnt want to approve.

I found them all about nothing. That would not help my business at all.

I approved them anyway I think I will remove them but I am just too polite to disapprove.

I do prefer organic comments.

funnily enough the most genuine came from absolute new beginners. I shan't use it ever again.

Let's just all become hard-asses like Dirty Harry.

Disapprove every comment that doesn't reach our standards.

I'm getting a lot of support on this. It's very encouraging to discover I'm not alone.

I should be more bad ass maybe but I do ok as I am. I have enough do as it is.

Thanks, Deb. You're probably a much nicer person than me.

In the past I’ve been giving people the benefit of the doubt and accepting comments that as you say are not entirely on topic etc.

However, this week I rejected 5 in a row which were written in barely understandable English, tenuously related to the post subject and as you say, a couple of sentences long.

The main reason I am now rejecting comments like this is they do not do my site any favours at all, besides adding words.

Right now site comments is not working as it should with many people are simply using it as a money/credit making machine.

This is my 2nd rant on this subject, hopefully Kyle and Carson are seeing these posts.

You know I love your opinion, Anne.

But when it agrees with mine, it's doubly valuable :-)

Let's all work towards higher comment standards.

I have to say Phil I agree entirely. I did something similar over a period of a week in December and built up 50 credits and always gave what I felt well thought out relevant responses.

Unfortunately in many cases (not all) the comments I received were pretty poor. I have sympathy with the language barrier as an expat in a foreign country I am happy to help and correct that.

What I will not do is approve something that is just a quick copy and paste with irrelevant comments.

I hate being negative as well so actually I have been using my credits sparingly and not actually asking for many comments.

Kevin

Thanks, Kevin. I'm just becoming more of a hard-ass about this. A bit like Clint!

If you are taking the time to read other people's articles and post relevant, quality comments then of course you would be annoyed at receiving substandard ones on your own site. Not unreasonable. However, not everyone is aware how site comments is supposed to work so some people won't be doing it correctly at the start.
