What can we learn from Weeds?

Pam Grout says in her book “E-squared” that we should listen to what the nature has to say. Many astonishing inventions has been found out by studying plants and animals.

As I was in the garden yesterday weeding, it came into my mind that we can even learn from the annoying weeds. As often I’m weeding, after the shortest of time, they grow again, and again and again. What can we learn from Weeds? The weeds never give up, they are as persistent as nothing else on this earth. If the weed has been pulled out of the soil, the remnants of their roots seek their way to another spot in the lawn, among the strawberry-plants, in the border of flower and wherever it suits them. Yes, not even asphalt or cement can hold them back.

So, what is the conclusion? Be like a Weed – never give up, don’t ever let anyone pull you away from your mission in life! If you of some reason get pulled away from your path, then search for another way to fulfill your mission, but for all sakes, do not give up! The “roots”, your intentions, perhaps for some time are hidden deep inside you, but then you go on seeking for another solution, which leads you back to your path, to the path of success.

Let’s follow the example of the weeds!

I have wild strawberry plants growing in my flowerbed. Talk about persistent little weeds!

If you are in the eastern US they are tasteless and seedy. Wild strawberries in the Pacific northwest are as tasty as commercial ones!

Glen, so true!
Strawberry plants they grow wildly as good as weed. I do forgive them because of the delicious strawberries.

Let's grow and flourish like weeds - and strawberry plants!
;-)

I miss huckleberry picking in the Cascades.

I am in eastern US. So my wild strawberries are tiny, seedy, and tasteless.

I hear you Glen. I've picked them near Crater lake, Oregon!

Oh, I see - weedy little strawberries. What positive qualities could they have then, except for being persistent?
A challenge to find out that.
;-)

They have flowers which have pollen and so keep pollinators in business that can then carry pollen with more valuable fruits in their busy lives!

Hello again Mike! Thanks for your awesome input!

Plants are truly working exemplary! If we work like a strawberry plant then our websites soon will be famous! Our websites/blogs has to be as attractive to people as flowers to the bees.

Our discussion thread is kind of a weed, it grows and grows!!
:-)

Hi Pernilla,

I have "weeds" in my Spanish garden that are protected or at least special in Nordic countries. When I read your title Weeds I thought, here we go but it was not what I thought after all. On my health site I have a page on it = Sacred Plant, we will grow it here and have it in our smoothies.

To your health! Taetske

There are weeds and weeds!

Sounds interesting, the Sacred Plant.
Have to have a look at it.

Healthy wishes for you too dear Taetske!
:-) Pernilla

Nice.

Thanks for stopping by John!

Be like a weed,
and you'll succeed.
:-)

Interesting connection Pernilla.........nice post. Well done.

Wayne

Good to see you Wayne!

Let's be persistent like a weed,
then we'll surely succeed!
:-)

In the end when mankind's buildings fall apart they will rule Pernilla!

So true Mike!
The weeds, yes, plants of any kind are so strong, they'll endure all and everything. That we can surely name persistence.

Persistence
will save the Existence!
:-)

Dandelions are so valuable. Wine, greens and seed puffs for the kids to play with!

It's all relative, isn't it?

Everything's got a good side, we just have to be able to see it.
:-)

Love the analogy! I'll never look a weeding my garden the same.

Randy, I'm happy you like this post!

Have a lot of fun weeding!
The weeds may tell you more secrets of success.
;-)

Ha ha! I came very close to writing a very similar post two weeks ago, about the exact same thing.

So, you've picked up E-Squared. What did you think? I really liked it, and the follow-up, E-Cubed. I would also recommend her book Thank and Grow Rich. I like her style of writing and the stories that she shares.

Craig, how awesome of you to stop by.
Funny, you had the same idea in your mind.

Thanks to you I bought this book. Actually it's my husband who's reading it now and he tells me about every chapter. Of course I will read the book myself - it's really insightful and has got good exercises. I will buy the other two ones as well.

Let's listen to the birds and the weeds!
;-)

I was actually happy to see your post. I have found WA to be strangely quiet this past week or so and it left me feeling a bit sad. I haven't been seeing the people that I usually communicate with, so seeing your blog was great, especially when I saw what it was about. :)

I'm anxious to hear what you (and your husband) think of the book.

Keep in touch!

Yes, I also think it's sad when I don't see the people I've got used to here at WA any more (I suppose some of our WA-friends have holidays or are busy with their business). So I'm happy to see You again. Appreciate your comments as always!

I have been busy myself lately, but I'm still out there in the internet spheres! Surely I haven't forgotten you Craig. I'll keep in touch! Sometimes more often, sometimes less, but I'm like a weed - I won't disappear that easy.

I'll give you feedback about the book, further on!
;-)

I love this post and your sense of humour!

Things that annoy us can teach us powerful lessons, if we are open to that learning.

Thank you for sharing your insight and analogy.

Cheers,

Susan

Love to hear your comment Susan!

Yes, let's keep our ears open to what the nature has to say!
:-)

Nicely put i like the analogy

So good you like it, David!

Never give up - that's the message!
:-)

Thank you Pernilla.

Great to see you Pablo.

Sometimes weeds can say more than words.
