AN UPDATE.......December, 2016
Monterey Peninsula, California

So I arrived here at WA over a year ago without the foggiest idea or a clue. All I knew was, it seemed like people were really and truly making money from home on the internet.

And I wanted to learn how.

In some forum somewhere, I read what a guy wrote about a place online called Wealthy Affiliates, with this fantastic community of members who love to help new people who don't know much, but want to learn how to build websites and create online businesses. Seemed like a match, so I clicked in.

Short story.......$47 membership paid after 3 days of looking around.

Along the way to WA during the previous 2 years, as I find is the case with most who finally arrive here, I spent time looking at myriads of learning opportunities, mostly myths, some perhaps half doable at best.

But at one stop, I watched a webinar where the host was talking about planning out what you want to do before building anything. His basic theme was, "we're not building websites, we're building businesses."

Hmmm, what a novel idea......get educated and learn how to build one website and tweek it until it's got good traffic and making money, then do it again......and maybe even again and again.......in different little niches.

I guess I took him seriously, because that's what I've been doing for the past year...... planning out a business consisting of a group of little monetized websites wrapped around a blog. And during that time, I've been saving article ideas, graphics, photos and all kinds of other stuff I might be able to use later on down the road.

But the secret as I see it, is to build them all within the same general category. This way they can be tied together as a family with a blog, and regularly scheduled articles.

And my choice of categories?........Home & Garden. I got tons I can write about.

Oh yeah, I've also been getting past some serious health issues which put me down and almost out. But all that time I never stopped thinking about my idea for my internet marketing business.

And the health stuff is all history now.......I lucked out.

So as the heading above says, the dreaming, scheming, thinking and planning phase is done with. Time to get educated and learn the technical side of building my online business.

My next stop, naturally.......the Wealthy Affiliates learning center. And if it seems my questions from this point on are in abundance beyond my limit, have patience with me. I'm technically challenged!

Hi Gardenguy
I see your niche is Home and Garden, which is very broad and as you say you have tons to write about. My niche is gardening, and I am having a hard time being able to narrow down the topic because as you know, one topic overlaps another in this niche, and yes there is tons to write about. I keep envisioning one website with tabs separating each topic but as I am reading, if you put too much on one website, you lose the targeting and the audience. Can you give me any insight as to how you are dealing with this? I don't think I am quite getting it. Thanks for any input!

Hi Nancy~
O.K.....actually home and garden is not my first venture out onto the internet through WA training......I'm starting in Bootcamp w/ a site promoting WA, just to learn how to build SEO websites. I was a tech challenged senior coming in, and wanted to learn that way. You are absolutely right in that H&G is broad.....way too broad to do anything with. It's actually a market category. I will use that as my overall blog domain, and branch out with little monetized niche mini sites under it. If you'd like, I can show you what I'm planning in a PM. Whenever you want, PM me and I'll respond.

Hi Wayne and thank you for following. It is a pleasure to meet you, have that martini and discuss this Internet 'stuff'! LoL You have been here for a bit and I admire your way of doing things and that is one awesome niche. Me, well I am not so smart as it seems to be taking me forever to get this learning part all done. My own doing for a lot as I got excited and off course, then got super sick ( so I can relate) 5 weeks in hosp and one heck of a recovery time. But, like you, I am stronger and fingers crossed with the surgeon and Dr. that it never happens again!
Looking forward to more learning and doing in 2018.

Wayne -

Thank you for following me back. I like your profile. Although I am starting out in the "make money online" niche, I am a farmer/gardener at heart. I have been trying for a very long time to get back to living in a rural area (though I am not sure how the internet will work there - lol). So, the gardening niche is one I am particularly interested in.

Glad to read you defeated your health issues. I wish you great success here at WA.

Many thanks for the kind words, Lydia. My business building plans in my gardening category.....actually home & garden....is on hold while I follow Kyle in his Super Affiliate mentorship. But I will in time get back to it.

Definitely look into "the country." But you are right about a connection to the internet worry.......I am lucky in that regard.....I'm in the sticks but have a wireless transmission from a tower 5 miles away. Works perfect and it's high speed too.

Hello Wayne! I am very new to WA. One of my enterprises is a foliar fertilizer product line for which I am attempting to build out an affiliate marketing layer. Not sure if WA is the place to do this but I am trying to link to those who have gardening/farming experience.

Hi Wayne,

Lovely to meet you. I really enjoyed your style of writing on your profile.

I was intrigued by your blog post here that reads: 'Does Anyone Really Read The "A' as it didn't have the complete title. In answer, and only my own opinion, I often will visit other WA members About Me page to learn more about them.

I think how you introduce yourself tells readers a lot about you. You are more likely to share what your values are on this page, and this is where trust is formed.

Personally, I buy from people I like, and I also return to websites of people I like. I especially like good writers who have reveal their personalities in their words. Because of this I am looking forward to seeing your website when you share it.

All the best,

Jules

Thank you Jules......
........and it's a pleasure for me to make your acquaintance here in WA. My profile you speak of, needs updating.....something I've been lazily neglecting.

Thank you too, for following me. I don't post often as others do......usually when I have something I feel the community will be better off for reading, or laughing at, I will. And that is why my rank is so high. But I am here to learn how to effectively build monetized websites. Once I do that, I may then engage more often.

Thank you for your pleasant note, and i look forward to possibly bumping into you occasionally.
