Kyle and Jay (magistudios) reckon that banner ads hinder a site, i.e they take away the focus - which of course is your content. I agree with them and am surprised at how few click throughs I've had from them in the past.

Just a thought for all you budding web designers! Banners aren't the bee all and end all!

I'm beginning to agree with that line of thought, Rob.

Pat

I would remove them.people might look at them and think this is old news and leave.

True, and that's definitely what I DON'T want to happen.

Pat

If you're gonna do any season make one for every holiday.

That's what I'll need to do! Thanks.
Pat

Yes, I believe ads should be removed when they are out of season. I replaced my valentine ads with St Patricks day ads in the beginning of march. You seem more current and involved with your page if it is "up to date".

I'd better get busy!!!
Pat

My affiliate programs automatically update the advs when seasons or special days change.

Wish mine did! ..............Pat

Hi Pat! I remove seasonal ads -- I get sick of looking at them, so I imagine others are, too. I also check to see how effective those ads are -- if they don't get clicked -- out they go! I like seasonal ads -- it makes my blog seem current -- like I know what's going on! I'm making sales for Easter already!

I was thinking I'd get a head start on Easter. ................Pat

Before you remove them I would see what other ads the merchants have to offer. They may have something for a season coming up or something that can be used year round.

Definitely....that's something I'd want to do. Thanks!

Pat

Hi! Yes, I would change them, I think it would show you are up to date with your site. I'm sure you'll be able to find the same products if you'd like but without the Christmas theme. Sharon brings a good point, there are more holidays to come! :)

I appreciate your input. It might be better for me to stay away from those that have such a seasonal look to them and stick to the generic product ads.

Pat

Hi Pat, Yes, I would change them. We've got St. Patrick's Day coming up and then you've got Mother's Day and Father's Day. People can start shopping early for those. I don't know if there is a rule of thumb per say, just thinking of the shopping needs for your visitors. Hope that helps my friend!

Yikes! I'd better get busy on some more blogs so I can start showing things associated with those holidays. I'm letting grass grow under my idle feet!

Pat

No worries! I bet you can take care of it all tomorrow! :-) Let me know if you need my help!!

I would guess yes, if they are seasonal.....

It makes sense to remove them, but I hesitated to do it if that was not the customary thing to do.

Pat

Yes, post ads for the upcoming holidays! Keep them rotating! Good luck Pat....

I sent an invite to a friend Jan. 3rd, but it's not even registering on my stats. Why not?

They have to sign up and complete their profile for you to get credited.

i am having the same problem here as well. friends click on my invites or links on my website and some of them cant sign up because they already members on WA which is not the case. And those that manage to sign up, i dont get the additioning invite recignition. dont know what is happening to WA now

Have you mentioned this to Kyle or Carson? There may be a technical glitch that won't let them sign up.

Pat

yeah i have. Waiting for them to reply. sometimes they take a really long time to reply. kinda unfortunate that my affiliate journey had to start so poorly. but oh wells. hope they somehow mange to fix it and i can get back to inviting people to WA

Just wanted to let you know that from what ive seen with this the most common problem is that an account had already been created from that ip address. For example, my boyfriend couldn't make an account from our apartment because I made an account already here. To see if that is the case you will need to have them find another internet location and attempt to make an account. You can also send a PM to Kyle or Carson with the person's information and they can create the account for you while making sure that it counts as one your referrals.

As for the invites, people need to actually create the account for the invite to pop up. The number wont increase simply because you sent the invites out, so I would check to see if the profile for your friend actually exists because they might not have signed up yet. If someone researches WA before signing up and ends up clicking on someone elses link right before they sign up, it will become that person's referral. The credit will go to the last affiliate link clicked I believe.

Jean

wow thanks:) thats true. but my friend at work used his own internet. hmmmm ah wells. i have already asked kyle and carson about it so we will see how that works. thanks so much for your help.

oh and about kyle and carson making the account for you. really? have you tried it before?

Autumn is on it here... same thing has happened to me whether I'm at home or trying to sign them in at a Starbucks on my laptop! Ya' really have to watch the IP thing closely!

Once, I had my laptop over at a friend's house trying to sign him up and instead of it seeing his IP on his network it still retained my IP somehow and wouldn't except his info.

May send again.

Hi Pat, If you feel comfortable about it call her or him up and ask them if they have had a chance to check out the link.

Also, did you send the invite via email? Or did you do it through your "invite" link here? If it was through email it might have gone to their spam folder.

Once they do what they are supposed to do when they sign up in WA, then you will see it in your credits.

Hope this helps.

I'm having lunch with her Tuesday, and I'll ask her then. She may not have had time to investigate it yet. Thanks, Mary!

Pat

Hold tough pat. She may take a day or two.

You are so right! I guess I'm just anxious!

Pat

Yep, the invitee must do their part!

Thanks, everyone. I was under the impression that an invite sent was just that. I can understand now. ......Pat

It doesn't always happen immediately. I'd check that they have filled out their profile and then see if the figures appear.

I hope she'll fill out her profile and at least complete the Level 1 training. She sounded interested.

Pat

We can send invites but not everyone will accept the invitation. My understanding is that you do not get a credit until they register and create a profile.

That makes sense, Anita. Thanks.

Pat

Hi Pat. Did they actually create an account?

Not yet, Rick. She just asked me to send her the link because she was interested.

I've been uploading photos right and left, and it occured to me that all those photos are being stored somewhere. Is there a limit on the space we can use for our media?

Ok, folks...Thanks to Trialynn, we have a definitive answer. WA does not put an upper limit on the storage space in our media library. There could be other things we put on our site that might put a strain on the server, but if we do that, we will be notified by WA to change it. As long as we are making normal blog websites, we don't need to worry about having too many photos. This came from Kyle, so we can rest easy!

Pat (with the dear help of Trialynn)

Keep in mind the pixel size of each pic you upload. If you have a means of making the pics smaller, less psi(pixels per square inch), you can upload that much more.

Thanks, thendiy. I checked my folder with all my picture in it, and I have a LONG way to go before I get to 3 GB. I usually choose a smaller size for the pictures, too, because I don't want them to overpower the page. I appreciate your handy tip, though.

Pat

I had a second look at your statement about choosing a smaller size, so as not to overwhelm the page. Smart choice! However, if this is done in WP's back office, You may have still uploaded a large file into the media library. Which will effect your allotted 3 Gig storage space. Best is to upload a smaller file, if possible.

Good point, Thendiy....I hadn't thought of that. Of course my files are larger in the library, however I've been downloading a smaller size from the original resolution. I think they are the 520 (or thereabout) pixel squares. I'll start downloading them even smaller.

Pat

You may not want to bother going too small. A 1 megabit file, which is way larger than what you would need on your web page, will still allow a lot of pics. If 3 gigabits is what we have for storage, that would allow us around 3,000 pics we can store. Some phones and cameras have massive pic file sizes. Those are the occasions to downsize the photo considerably. A pic 500 pixels across is not going to create a problem for you.

It is my understanding that you have 3GB of space

The following is from a blog about Wordpress:

I'm curious. Why did you decide to delete all the pictures from your blog / did you understand that deleting "stuff in my media library" would remove the pictures on your blog?

567kb is a very small part of the 3 GB you are able to use here on wp.com. I'm curious. Are you worried about using all the storage space too quickly or what?

I didn't delete any of the pictures in my blog or in my library. Are they missing? I'd better go check. My concern was for long range planning. I just wondered how long I could keep adding pictures to my website without running out of storage space.

Where did you get the 567 kb number? Is there a place that shows up how much we've stored?

Curious minds want to know! LOL

OK....I see now that you were quoting from another blog to show me where you got the 3 GB number. I just didn't read it carefully enough the first time through.

This is what wp.com says but I could not find it on my webpage Maybe it can depend on your theme!

You can review how much space you have remaining from Media → Library in your blog’s dashboard.

upload_space_remaining

I looked in my Dashboard under Media----> Library.....and I didn't see upload_space_remaining anywhere on the page. Did you ever find it, Trialynn?

Nope. I am doing some research to see if it is found anywhere else.

Good question, I'm also wondering this as I've already uploaded probably 30 pictures since the 22nd of september.

Hi, Pat. How I wish I could help you out. I just have mine sent to my email and I made a folder for the backup. I believe that somebody in here has an answer for you. Just be patient with what you are doing. I could see that you are working so hard on your website. Don't worry, you will soon harvest the fruit of your labor and you will live the lifestyle of your dream very soon! More blessings to you!

Thank you, Betcha. It's so frustrating to keep hitting my head against that brick wall. I know that sooner or later, I will succeed in backing up that onery critter, but I wish it was sooner than later! :)

Take is easy. I, too, just hit the wall and couldn't figure out what to do as of the moment. But I'll rest a little bit until my light bulb clicks again! Rest if you must, the answer will come by soon. I am so inspired by your persistence!

If you haven't seen it yet, you can also go into your Posts > All Posts area and "Quick Edit" a post. In the middle, there are your Categories so you can check off which ones you wanted the post to have in case you forgot to add one!

Happy to hear it is resolved!!

It works! I finally figured out that those pages I added to the menu in Level 2, won't work as categories. I have to make the categories themselves the menu items. Water under the bridge now! Thanks to all of you who offered suggestions, because you all pointed me in the right direction and provided much needed clarity!

Pat

If you follow @betcha's advice on assigning Categories to each Post you can use them in a variety of ways. I think you've already created a Custom Menu https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/creating-custom-menus-in-wordpress and added added Category Items to it. There's also a Category Widget which you can drag into the sidebar or footer areas for example, via Appearance > Widgets. You can also create additional Custom Menus with Category Items and place them in other locations by using a Custom Menu widget in the same way. :) Rich.

Thanks, Rich. I'll play around with it and see my options.

Pat

Try looking into what Rich mentioned above. I believe you are working on customizing your menu. Those are the two ways I work on my website. Let me know if this works. Otherwise we will find something else. Just be patient. Everything will just fall into place. Your hard work will pay off for sure.

Hi, Pat. I hope I could help you with what you are trying to do. Your question here seems vague. But the way I understand, you are referring to your posts which can be categorized.

If you want your posts to appear on their respective categories, go to each post. At the lower right sidebar, you will see the different categories you created. Simply click which category you would like your posts to fall under. And don't forget to update to save the changes you made.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask if there's still something more you needed to do.

Thanks, Betcha. This sounds exactly like what I was asking. I can't wait until I get back to work on it to try these out.

Pat

My pleasure, Pat. I'm glad to have helped you. Just let me know if there's anything more you need help with as you know there are different ways of doing things around WordPress.

Ok, Betcha. I went to my posts and looked down that right sidebar and found the section about Categories. The only one there was Uncategorized, so I added my five categories. The only thing was I didn't know what to put for the Parent Category, so I left it Uncategorized. Then I made sure the check mark for that post was in the right category. After I updated it, I went to view it, and it hadn't moved to that category in the menu at all. From my description, can you tell me what I did wrong? I thought I followed your directions, but I must have missed something.
