Disclaimer No. 2 - No Old Fluffs, Blunt Brendas, or Wonky Donkeys Were Harmed During the Making of This Blog Post.

Once upon a time there lived an Old Fluff.

As weā€™ve previously established, this Fluff was OLD.

I mean, she had to be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the OLDEST person that had ever lived.

Anyway, after her previous restaurant debacle, she decided to do things the RIGHT WAY this time round.

So, rather than being so focused on the DESIGN of her restaurant, she realised that the MONEY was in the food.

She had opened an ITALIAN restaurant, therefore her MAIN daily task was to COOK ITALIAN FOOD.

No more making the restaurant look pretty, there was time for that in the future, but only once she had established herself as a great cook, who provided so much VALUE to her customers.

However, Old Fluff decided she needed help to run her restaurant effectively and efficiently.

So, she did what any Old Fluff would do, she got some hired help.

Old Fluff felt she had found the perfect pair to compliment her personality when she employed Blunt Benda and Wonky Donkey.

That said, Blunt Brenda and Wonky Donkeyā€™s role was very clear.

The second any person entered the restaurant Blunt Brenda and Wonky Donkey should be all over them, telling them the specials of the day, trying to steer the customers in the right direction, and making sure they got as many SALES as possible.

A HANDSOME MAN ENTERED!!!!

Hahahahaha!!

ā€œā€Tis I, Prince Partha, I have come to eat at your establishmentā€.

Without hesitation, the second Prince Partha entered Blunt Brenda and Wonky Donkey didnā€™t even give him time to breathe.

ā€œSpaghetti Bolognese Sir, Spaghetti Bolognese Sir, you must try the spag bol, itā€™s awesome, hereā€™s one I prepared earlier, allow me to shove it straight in your face,ā€ said Blunt Brenda.

Clearly, Blunt Brenda was bang on the case, as the Prince hadnā€™t sat down, removed his coat, or even looked at a menu.

Not to be outdone, ā€œHello, Hello, Hello, Hello, try our PASTA bolognese, you must try the pasta bolognese, bolognese, bolognese, bolognese, HEE-HAW, ā€œscreamed Wonky Donkey in the Princeā€™s face.

ā€œEeerm, is there any chance of a seat and a little bit of me time to peruse the menu?ā€ asked the Prince.

ā€œAnd aren't spaghetti bolognese and pasta bolognese the same thing?ā€

ā€œPlease can I have a menuā€

ā€œHEE-HAW, no menus Iā€™m afraid sir, but I can give you a list of the specialsā€, replied Wonky Donkey.

ā€œWe have spaghetti bolognese, pasta bolognese, pasta with meat and tomato sauce, tomatoes minced beef with carbohydrate swirls, tagliatelle with ground beef in a solanum lycopersicon (3 guesses what that is, Hahaha) sauce. Oh yeah, and Chicken Tikka Masala and Beef in Black Bean Sauceā€.

The Prince, ā€œWTFā€

ā€œBut, I saw the menu outside and I wantedā€¦ā€

ā€œNOā€

ā€œAnd what has Chicken Tikka Masala and Beef in Black Bean Sauce got to do with Italian Food?ā€

ā€œOkay, based on the menu outside, please may I haveā€¦ā€

ā€œNOā€, said Blunt Brenda.

ā€œBUTā€

ā€œNOā€

ā€œThese are the specials and this is all we offer, itā€™s MY restaurant, so itā€™s down to ME what I cook, whether itā€™s all the same, but with different names, or whether itā€™s food thatā€™s not Italian. As I say, itā€™s MY restaurant, take it or leave itā€, said Old Fluff.

And with that, the Prince left, dissatisfied, hungry, and extremely confused.

THE END.

Has anyone ā€œgot itā€ already? Hahahaha!!

Well, allow me to explain anyway.

Hereā€™s how the vast majority of people start a new website.

Choose niche, choose domain name, set up WordPress, BOOM!!

Iā€™m online.

My niche is affiliate marketing.

So, my first few articles will be

  • How to Make Money From Affiliate Marketing
  • Can You Make Money From Affiliate Marketing?
  • Affiliate Marketing - Whatā€™s the Best Way to Make Money?
  • Is Affiliate Marketing a Good Way to Make Money Online?

Firstly, do you see how these are essentially ALL THE SAME (it ā€˜s the Old Fluff, Blunt Brenda, Wonky Donkey Bolognese scenario all over again).

THIS DOES NOT PROVIDE VALUE FOR YOUR READERS - YOU ARE WRITING FOR SEARCH ENGINES NOT PEOPLE

Secondly, once you start your new website, you head on over to Jaaxy, you type in Affiliate Marketing, and hope for the best.

You then choose what you believe is a great keyword, as Jaaxy told you so, but you didnā€™t CHECK what the competition was like on page one.

Finally, you decide what you would write about because ITā€™S WHAT YOU WANT TO WRITE ABOUT.

You then write 50 product reviews as your initial articles.

You ensure you have 7,253 affiliate links per post, and just to make sure you make commission, you throw a few Wealthy Affiliate banners in as well.

Then, obviously you want to make as much money as possible, so you also throw a few banners up on the side for products related to ā€œHow to Lose Weightā€ and ā€œTeach Your Dog How to Sitā€.

Okay, perhaps I exaggerate a little (what me?? Exaggerate, or use sarcasmā€¦ NEVER!!)

However, this is pretty close to how many people start a new website and can you see the similarities to how Old Fluff, Blunt Brenda, and Wonky Donkey ran their restaurant (those 3 are DEFINITELY gonna beat me up today, Hahaha)?

I would say that this is the SECOND biggest mistake people make online (you know I feel that many, many, many, many people still havenā€™t got keyword research right, which is the BIGGEST mistake).

Basically, you start a niche blog, and then simply GUESS.

You probably hop on over to Jaaxy, type affiliate marketing into the search box, hit enter, and hope for the best.

Then again, if you decide to start a niche website focused around an interest of yours, your first thought is, ā€œI have so much knowledge to share, I canā€™t wait to get started writing articlesā€.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

Sorry Princesses, sorry to burst your bubble, ITā€™S NOT ABOUT YOU.

NO-ONE CARES ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.

When you first start a niche website youā€™re an unknown entity.

So, the search engines and your potential visitors have very little trust in you.

But, why would they?

They donā€™t know, they donā€™t know anything about you.

So, they visit your website and what are they greeted with?

Loads of warbling nonsense where youā€™re TRYING TO SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

NO-ONE CARES.

When youā€™re an unknown entity, it is NEVER about you.

It is your job to find out what the people in your niche ACTUALLY WANT TO KNOW.

You then write articles based on WHAT YOUR AUDIENCE WANTS TO KNOW.

Itā€™s not until youā€™ve established yourself, perhaps your readers hang off your every word, and they love your style, and want more, more, and more.

This is when you can PERHAPS write what YOU want to write about.

However, until then, itā€™s never about you, itā€™s ALWAYS about your audience.

So, your job is to FIND OUT what PROBLEMS and ISSUES the people in your niche have.

Then provide them solutions to their problems.

This should only be a PRODUCT some of the time.

Donā€™t be like Blunt Brenda and Wonky Donkey SHOVING SALES DOWN YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERā€™S THROATS THE SECOND THEY WALK THROUGH THE DOOR.

Answer me this..

When was the last time YOU bought something from a pushy salesperson?

Iā€™m going to guess, not very often to NEVER.

So, what makes you think that you can become successful online following the pushy salesperson process on your website?

Then again, what makes you think that anybody is interested in what you have to say as someone new to a particular niche?

This is why you have to PROVE YOURSELF to your potential readers.

How do you do this?

You FIND OUT THEIR PROBLEMS, then you WRITE ARTICLES to SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS.

Granted, sometimes a ā€œsolutionā€ will be a product, but not every time (remember, NO pushy salesperson).

People BUY from people.

And pretty much every single time we buy something THAT WE DIDNā€™T ACTUALLY WANT is because WE LIKED the person offering this to us.

And pretty much every time we have had sales shoved down our throats by a pushy salesperson, we donā€™t buy anything and run the other way.

Trust me, itā€™s no different online.

Actually, thatā€™s not strictly true, sometimes it can actually be harder.

When youā€™re cornered by a pushy salesperson in the REAL WORLD, you have nowhere to run.

However, online, if you simply donā€™t like someone, you can just back click on your browser (Partha suddenly loses 50% of his audience, LOL).

The reason I say that your articles arenā€™t about YOU is simply because at the heart of it, people are selfish.

No matter what you believe, people are always interested in WHATā€™S IN IT FOR THEM.

This is why when you start a new website the VERY FIRST THING YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DO is perform niche research.

Do you know how simple this is?

I donā€™t know the exact numbers, but there are close to 10,000,000 online communities.

These are places where people ā€hang outā€ online, chat, hold discussions, ask questions, wait for answers, etc.

Basically, there are 9,999,999 (approximately) other communities online JUST LIKE THE WEALTHY AFFILIATE PLATFORM.

Plus, there isnā€™t a single niche that doesnā€™t have their own online community.

And trust me when I say some of them are just plain weird.

But, the fact remains, there are people online literally TELLING YOU WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO WRITE ABOUT.

Your job - go find them and study what theyā€™re talking about, take notes, and only then can you do keyword research and even begin to think about writing an article.

If you do it the other way round, which the vast majority of people do, youā€™re DOOMED TO FAILURE.

This is also why I personally use Google Autosuggest for keyword research.

Google is TELLING ME WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR.

So, if I already KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE SEARCHING FOR this makes my job so much easier.

If you START by simply typing words into a keyword tool, you are simply HOPING for the best, youā€™re GUESSING what your audience wants to know, rather than actually going out there and finding out.

Okay, admittedly, even using Google Autosuggest is much the same thing, youā€™re still guessing.

So, you ALWAYS have to start with NICHE RESEARCH.

Iā€™ve mentioned the millions of communities that cover just about every single niche you could EVER think of.

You know Iā€™m a fan of Quora and Reddit, get yourself over there and type in a few keywords based on your niche (yes, you're allowed to guess these) into the search bar.

You can then read all the questions and answers around those keywords, as PEOPLE ARE TELLING YOU WHAT THEY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT).

You can also search for forums (online communities and ā€œmeeting placesā€)

Simply go to google and type the name of niche (or a related keyword) into Google with + forums afterwards (again guessing here is fine)

So, things like:

German Shepherd + Forums

Laptops + Forums

Affiliate Marketing + Forums

White Water Rafting + Forums

Yoga + Forums

Carpentry + Forums

You get the picture.

But, whatever your niche, you can guarantee there will be a forum for it.

A place where like-minded people discuss ONE PARTICULAR NICHE and ask questions about their PROBLEMS hoping to find SOLUTIONS.

Plus, donā€™t forget things like Facebook Groups too.

These are all places where people in your niche HANG OUT.

Are you starting to see how EASY it is to FIND OUT WHAT THE PEOPLE IN YOUR NICHE WANT.

So, donā€™t guess.

Donā€™t just write about what you want.

Donā€™t think that just because you have a head full of knowledge that this is what people want to know.

Itā€™s ALWAYS about your AUDIENCE and NEVER about YOU.

So, GET TO KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE FIRST.

Thank You For Reading

Hi Partha, if not mistaken I saw that you mentioned somewhere that you can manage to produce an article in about 60 minutes? I have no idea how you manage to do that? I mean all the research, optimisation of images, designing your article cover image, the SEO of your article, putting in relevant links etc.

Will be awesome if you can at some point bring out an article to let us know how you actually manage to produce articles that quickly? I have not looked at any of your articles recently but from what I can remember we are talking good quality articles that are certainly not just 500 words but probably more in the region of 2500 words+ etc. or shall I say in the very least probably around 1500 words.

Do you use dictation? Do you use any automated tools to help you write like e.g. bots etc?

Many thanks! Much appreciated!
Schalk

Ps. If you can specify how many words on average articles are that you can produce in around 60 minutes then that will be awesome.

Hey Schalk,

I have written before about how I structure and write articles, but I will produce a more up to date one soon.

However, there are 3 main things you have to take into consideration with word count and writing speed.

I've recently spent a LOT of time saying, "don't worry about word count".

To be honest, it means nothing, and Google has even said this in their notes from the August 25th "Helpful Content" Algorithm Update.

In fact, Google has said they have never cared about word count.

You want me to be honest, "word count" has been made up by certain SEOs just so they can keep providing "helpful" information to their readers.

For me, your article is complete once you have ANSWERED THE QUERY POSED IN THE TITLE.

That's it.

Whether that takes you 600 words or 10,000 words MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IN TERMS OF RANKING.

As long as you have satisfied your readers by ANSWERING THE QUERY.

I think this year I have only written 3 articles that are over 2,000 words.

The rest (on the Exercise website) have all been 1,100 - 1,800 words, and I'd say most are about 1,300 words.

I have 3 websites that I run with Diane, my main spec was, ALL ARTICLES to be 600-800 words.

We're ranking, producing LOTS of traffic, etc.

As for writing speed, this comes down to how well you know your niche, and a person's own abilities.

I do everything based on timers, and split up my tasks.

Not everyone will be capable of doing this.

In fact, my way of working would probably drive the vast majority of people mad.

So, just because I do it, doesn't mean someone else can.

I ALWAYS have a huge list of keywords anyway.

I set a timer for 20 minutes.

By the end of that 20 minutes I have written the title and all the subheadings for my article, and probably written about 150-200 words (this 20 minutes includes basic research).

I then take a break.

I then do the same 20-minute thing with say 4 OTHER ARTICLES.

In effect, after 100 minutes of work, I have 5 articles with ALL their headings and subheadings and with around 150-200 words wirtten each.

When I go back to article number for MY NEXT 20 MINUTES, my mind is full of ideas.

I will usually end up writing 600-700 words in this time.

Take a break

Repeat the same process with the othe 4 articles.

When I return to the first article again, I know exactly how I want to "finish" the article off, so in that 20 minutes I hae written another 600-700 words.

The result being in 3 x 20-minute WORKING SLOTS I have completed an article.

In truth, this will probably lead to me writing 5 articles over 2 days.

HOWEVER

My brain probably works in a different way from many other people's.

Then again, this can be a blessing, but it can also be a curse.

However, I can write 5 DIFFERENT articles like this at the same time, while retaining all the information separately.

I know for a fact that this would confuse other people, it would be too much, and they would end up doing NOTHING.

So, I'll definitely do something in the future about structurng and writing, but the main reason I haven't is because I know a lot of people will say, "well, that's fine for you, but my brain doesn't work in the same way as yours".

The other things are that I retain information very well and I tend to understand things extremely quickly.

As in, I can probably skin-read something for one minute and then completely understand it.

As I've always said, we are ALL dfferent to each other, and we ALL have our own strengths and weaknesses.

So, what works for one person, may not work for another.

Partha .

Many thanks for this very detailed and very helpful reply. What you mentioned regarding word count has been a game changer for me I believe and may already help me produce articles much quicker and also following Google autosuggest rather than hours of keyword research also sounds like a game changer for me in producing articles much quicker.

The thing I like about the Google autosuggest and answering people's questions they asked via your article also allows you to provide your article link on Quora, Redit etc. as those questions Google autosuggest often appears on platforms like Quora and Redit (perhaps where Google got the autosuggest from in the first placešŸ¤”).

Your collaboration with Diane I find interesting as I thought you are only in the fitness niche and did not think Diane to be in the fitness niche too. I assume you split the website income from the websites to which you both contribute.

Once again, many thanks! Was indeed very useful info which led to a mind shift that will save me a lot of time.

Many thanks! Much appreciated!
Schalk

Hi Schalk - I assume Partha will answer you shortly.

But yes, our 3 collaborative sites are in entirely different niches, nothing to do with fitness/exercise.

In fact, they are quite unusual niches; some might say weird and assume there would be no interest in them or enough to write about!

But, as you know, Partha likes to do things differently, and these sites are ranking well for hundreds of keywords and acquiring decent traffic levels, despite having no posts over 800 words.

And, yes, we split the income.

Many thanks for clarifying. It is great to know that even 800 word articles can do quite well šŸ˜Š

I also now understand better why Partha works on several articles simultaneously due to having to create articles for so many different websites. However, saying that, I guess even when he initially only had one website to focus on he probs still worked on 4 articles simultaneously.

Oh my goodness, I think I just found my favorite blogger on wealth affiliate. I love the sarcasm, I love the way you present things, and I am so glad that someone recommended me to read your blogs. Thank you for this valuable info! I know that it is important to get to know the audience, but sometimes it's just so hard to put aside all the knowledge I have built in my head, especially over the topics in my site. I just started my site a week ago or so. Do you have any suggestions on how I can overcome that desire? It's really a strong desire. I'm so bad that I annoy my own girlfriend with my nerdy knowledge every single day hahah.

Hey Jessie,

You have just asked the MAIN question that most people struggle with throughout their entire life, and many, many, many people never manage to solve this before the day they die!!

Sad, but true.

How do I control my mind, my thoughts, my feelings (and in my case, my mouth)?

Those who can tend to live a happy life.

Those who can't will always feel there's something "better" out there to live a happier life, and search for it forever, without ever finding it.

You HAVE to learn to control your mind, and your thoughts, and your impulses.

The easiest way in this business is to have an outlet.

Basically, find forums, relevant areas of Quora and Reddit to your niche, as I've mentioned above in this article.

Bore the hell out of everyone there with your "nerdy knowledge".

This is your OUTLET.

It's a bit like me here at Wealthy Affiliate - I just say the things I want to say, I use it as my OUTLET.

However, ALL my wesbites, I have come to realise that success in this business (ANY business actually, online or offline) is to forget about YOU, concentrate on THEM.

However, some of us (myself included) have an incontrollable to chat %%$$, so you have to find YOUR outlet (don't take it out on the girlfriend forever, Hahahaha).

Partha

Hehe thank you so much! i will definitely start doing that because I am a nerd for psychology and religion and I say the most random things when it comes to those two subjects. I'm sure I can find plenty of forums that go over both those topics as well hahah

Hi Partha,

Amazingly, you can produce an article in 60 minutes.

It takes me at least one and a half days to get everything right.

Then I still have to upload images and put affiliate links into my article.

You are well advanced to do it in 60 minutes.

And by the way, I love Spaghetti Bolognese.

Elke

Ahooa, artillery inbound!! The "Partha grenade" struck home once again šŸ˜„šŸ’„

I like the way you try to hammer your message into our brain Partha. Looking forward to your next article and in the meantime I will make good use of your advice and recipe for blogging šŸ’Æ

Roy

Thank you for writing this. I have seen enough writing that says nothing online to last a lifetime. I skim and see that an article says nothing or says the same thing a hundred different ways and I leave.

That's exactly what a target audience does when faced with reading nonsense, they leave. It's not rocket science.

Your posts are wonderfully informative. šŸ˜Š

Aaaww, thanks Wendy!!
