Writing Bans and a Resolution
After reading Mel's post and comments it seems like the temperature here at WA is trying to rival that of my home Trinidad. And let me tell you with Carnival going on things are HOT HOT HOT!!!
So it seems that the process of trying to reach Kyle after a misplaced writing ban occurs is wholly unsatisfactory. And further that a 'get out of a jail free' card is just not cutting it.
So not to dilly dally let me put forward the following steps:
1) First propose and get agreement from Kyle/ Carson that this 'Writing Ban' issue is a lingering one, that they want to comprehensively solve and that they are open to the idea of members' recommendations. I get a sense, real or misplaced, that there is a perception that this issue has been long ignored or not taken seriously which is causing major irritation. So getting WA to agree that it is a major problem is a very critical step.
2) Once (1) is agreed to i.e. to improve WA and to ensure that the platform has workable safeguards that allow it to be free from spam etc. create a small group/ committee of senior WA members. Senior members who have a long view of this problem and have had recommendations advanced in the past.
3) The objective of this Committee would then be to fully understand the Writing Ban/ SPAM process from both the WA corporate and member perspective.
4) They then would be required to come up with recommendations in conjunction with Kyle/ Carson or their designate. These recommendations would be supplied to the wider community for comments which would be considered towards a final list of recommendations.
5) WA would then agree to implement the proposed recommendations by an agreed timeline to the benefit of the community.
Okay, that's my two cents. I have to save up my energies for the three fetes (parties) coming up this weekend.
Sincerely hope that we all can work towards a resolution.
Mel my friend please reconsider leaving for it is the divergence and passion which has made WA strong.

I will, Hugh. At the moment it seems that I am the one who sre getting the beating. I am not as quick as I used to be, especially fighting teenagers and young adults 😂.

Mel and Kyle are both known to me.
Somewhere, somehow, there seems to be a conflict.
How did this start?
I really do not follow Mell Waller as I find that he writes too much.
I do follow some excerpts that Kyle writes. He is now also doing some good video presentations.

There is no conflict at all actually.
The system has always operated this way, and has for 10+ years and we have made changes to improve it so this doesn't happen, but will be making further improvements so we can hopefully eliminate it from happening to people like Mel that are reported for spam, and cumulative reach the maximum number, but this is partly because of their frequent and high rate of activity.
getting here late to the party, but how frequent of an activity level, and how high does the rate have to be before spam is reported? Being new, i don't want to miss anything. Also, I usually tend to stay out of these comments and just read and absorb information, but the way i see it, is it's best to get as much intel where possible, when possible. therefor, these are my questions?
Hi Paul I have to agree with Kyle. No conflict to see here. More just a lot of healthy full throttled conversation on the best process to protect the WA community from spam. Currently, the bots/ algos might inadvertently trigger a member's suspension arising out of a spam complaint by another member(s). This is what Kyle and the team are going to work more on.

We are on it Hugh. This has happened a handful of times over the years to people that it really shouldn't be happening to. It has happened 1,000's of times to people that are spamming or bullying, or offering profane content.
So we are discussing a solution here, as it is time to make adjustments to this. So solutions we are considering is:
(1) Certain people, and people with certain credentials within the platform cannot get "write banned", and certainly cannot with such ease.
(2) Have a higher threshold for those that are contributing on a regular basis within the community. The more someone contributes, the more likelihood there is a chance that someone would report a post/comment.
I think alone, these would solve all of these issues and Carson and I are discussing the best solutions here. The community feedback is always appreciated, and you are right that it is time to fix this issue. Though this is rare, it is happening to people that it shouldn't be happening to.

Thanks Frank, getting better at anything is about taking problems and coming up with an ideal solution. It is time we improve the algorithms and the way this function works in the future, as we don't want anyone getting cut off that shouldn't be.
Mel certainly is another example of this happening, and I know we can come up with a solution where high volume users aren't put into this situation moving forward.
Constructive criticism and even negative feedback are things that we utilize to get better. Find a problem, solve it, get better. You can be sure that this it going to be our approach here.

Kyle I have always believed that you care. I can only imagine the juggernauts of issues you deal with daily to maintain safety security and sanity in WA. Thank you so much for what sounds like a really sober review of the issues and an earnest attempt to say we are on it and want to have this rectified for the betterment of the community. I therefore look forward to seeing you Carson and Mel taking a drink with Cassi and I in a Carnival to come.

Well that is the thing, we have MANY moving pieces and sometimes things that happen very infrequently carry a lower priority than things that impact the broader audience.
So bugs and in this case, complete changes to long standing algorithms (that take quite a bit of though, and programming power) can have lower precedence than wider ranging issues that have more audience touch points.
But we have ideas here, to hopefully prevent this from happening again and we are going to be implementing changes in the near future that will hopefully prevent erroneous write access bans from happening, while maintaining the block there for people that should banned (the bad actors of the platform).
