When it comes to the "About Me" section of the Wordpress site, Kyle reccomends it to be personal and literally about me. what if i don't want it to be about me and just about th

It really doesn't have to be about you at all - it can just give a little information about the inspiration behind the site and what readers can expect to get from it.

Ilina, I agree that whether you have an actual page labeled, "About Me", or not isn't the point. However, you still have to figure out a way to ensure that potential customers feel safe and secure while on your site. A well known online marketer such as Dave Ramsey (daveramsey.com) does not need (nor does he have) an "About Me" page. That's because his credentials as a trusted online source have been established. Ours have not.

Bottom line: I think it is possible to focus on your niche in a way that makes it "personal" without it being all about you. Absolutely.

Joshua

That absoluey makes sense. So I just have to figure out the "how" to do that. Thanks again Joshua!

You could but in terms of conversions (more sales per visitor ratio), people tend to feel more comfortable interacting with a site where the person behind it is more visible.

I don't know what niche you're in but if you're promoting WA, you could use the description you put in your WA profile. That's what I did (actually it was the other way around but it works either way).

If its another niche then I could understand the need for a certain degree of anonymity. You could be as vague as you want about yourself but you still need to put something that demonstrates that there is someone people can be comfortable with behind the site.

Ok a bit of an offtopic question if you don't mind. Would you put a hundred dollar bill into a vending machine?

Thank you, this was very helpful. Umm well, no first answer is absolutely not; it says 1's, 5's, 10's or 20's usually. My second answer would be yea if I had enough money, just to see the outcome.

Hi Ilina - from what I have learned from the training here, my understanding is that we are aiming to build trust between the reader and the site owner. For me, I would compare this with a real life salesperson when I am about to make a purchase. If that person standing in front of me is friendly and sincere, and not just trying to sell, sell, sell, I would make that purchase. The About Me page would go some way towards building that trust and present the site owner to the reader. Afterall, we are not there "in person" to make that sale. Hope I am making sense by offering my view on this matter.

Instead of "about me" tab, make "about the Niche" tab and discuss the niche. I never care about anyone I only care about what the site is about. I know that sounds crude and it is not meant to be. Just reality. I didn't join WA because of Kyle, I joined because of what they had to offer. Hope that makes sense.

it does and it's more along the line of what im thinking.

In m opinion you can make it personal and literally about you intertwined with what ever niche you pick. It does not have to be about your real personal life. You jet need to brand yourself in this niche you pick. I hope this helps you.

I'm finding a few affiliate programs linked to my niche. Not many, about 6 or 7. I was wondering, how many affiliate programs linked to one site should you have? How many is too

Just as Rich said. I only have Amazon on my site so far and don't really need any others to provide products at the moment. The only reason to get another program for me would be for customer choice say different shipping options. but still the same products.

i see how that would work. amazon is a great and reputable company, but 1. they only offer a 4% commission and yes i know ill get that on any product they purchase, just for my niche products, they aren't all that expensive to use only use amazon.

If you focus on Amazon it's possible to increase the rate of commission from the starter 4% to between 8-10% depending on product and volume. :) Rich.

when using affiliate programs, can you just post thier products to your site or do you post links?

You need to sign up with the relevant program, what "tools" they provide will dependent on that and sometimes the specific product itself. It's worth reading Steve's seminal piece on this https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/my-top-10-tips-to-improve-your-amazon-com-earnings as much of the advice therein can be applied to any of them. :) Rich.

It's however many are necessary to provide the range of products you need, I guess. I've seen sites that are Amazon only, others that have selected specific products from dozens of different affiliate programs. I usually check out this list http://mthink.com/affiliate/ first, to see what's available from the major programs, for example TradeDoubler represents the official affiliate program for Apple's iTunes, etc. :) Rich.

Thanks for the sharing this resource! ;)

oh great thanks rich!

after i upgraded to premium i deleted my free site and started a premium one and used my same domain name i

Hello Ilina. First, the bad news. Chances are that you will not be able to use that domain name as a dot-com level domain unless you contact that owner and offer to buy it from them. For the average person, this is not practical because of the cost. The good news is that you've learned a valuable lesson.

I am convinced that you should look at this situation with a positive mindset. Even if you had tried to snag that domain as a dot-com back when you began this adventure, it would not have been available even then. Thus, you have not really "lost" anything. To lose something implies prior ownership.

I agree with 2yorkiemom--there is something better awaiting you. What you need to do is start searching for that new name. Take your time and do a thorough brainstorming session. Don't settle for the mundane. Get your creative juices flowing and write down every conceivable idea that comes to mind. Also, understand that this may take a little time. If things are not clicking for you, set it aside and come back to it later.

However, once you find the name you want, register it! At a cost of about 10 bucks, what do you have to lose. In the meantime, you can still use the free domain while you perfect your site.

Wishing you much success on finding that new name.

Joshua

Thanks Joshua! You know I think that's exactly what I'm gonna do. And yor right about the feeling like I lost it thing, that's really helpful in feeling good about picking a different one, although I think when I feel the time is right and I'm ready I might actually try and contact the domain owner, the layout is nice, but there's not really a lot of content. Definately not getting regular maintenance, but that's for another time. Thanks again!

There is a better name waiting for you. It is easy to get creative and a unique name might get more exposure and higher rankings. Best to you.

Did you buy your own domain?

no i didn't, i realized this was a factor after being enlightened by rich on general chat. im gonna go back to the freesite for now, thanks!

Yes, you have unlimited free site to use as premium and when your ready you can transfer it to your own domain:)

Do you own this domain? In order to host a Premium domain, you actually have to purchase this website. You cannot host a website on a domain that someone else owns and Premium domain means a website that you have purchased.

Here is a tutorial walking you through the process of hosting your own domain:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/create-a-website-on-your-own-domain

Thanks! No I don't. The full difference between the freesite and premium one wasnt clear to me then, but all is well now! Thanks for taking the time Kyle.

OK, yeah, we are going to make this more clear. Don't worry, you are not the only one that was confused by the language we used. Thanks and let me know if you need any further help.

On your free site with your non premium membership you get to choose the domain name of your site underneath the siterubix domain.

So if you want "Myreallyawesomewebsite" you will get "Myreallyawesomewebsite.siterubix.com" and all you have to do is type it in and you will probably get it so long as it is available.

If you want "www.Myreallyawesomewebsite.com" you need to buy the registration from a company like namecheap.com or godaddy. There are lots you can look at. That gives you the right to put content on it.

When you own it you then need to have someone host it for you. That means you need to have a company look after all the files that make up your site. WA do that for you on your premium membership. When some one goes to your site they then access the files held on the server at WA, which make up your site and content.

Does that help?

As much as it needs to yes! very helpful thank you!

Thats a real bummer! Its just taught me that I should do everything in the correct order. So sorry this has happend to you.

Odecuas, did you purchase the domain to which you are referring? If so it should have been registered and no one else can use it. If you did not purchase the domain and it is registered to someone else then you will need to choose another domain. You may have been able to use it on the free site because they are subdomains to my understanding.

Question posed to original poster who is no longer active on WA.
