Having your own domain is very important to your business. In this training, I am going to walk you through the entire process of setting up your website on your OWN domain, right from the SiteDomains domain registration platform here at Wealthy Affiliate.

This process is a very simple:

(1) Buy a domain name, ideally a .com (.org, .net are 2nd best) through SiteDomains
(2) Creating a Premium website here at WA using your domain

Note that you can only host your OWN domains here at WA as a Premium member. You are able to purchase domains using SiteDomains as both a Starter and Premium member however.

If you do have any questions about the process, please do let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

I have a domain name that does not exist in Namecheap's database but I kind of love the name do you advise that I register/purchse it?

Do mean the domain name is available? If it is available for purchase and you like it, then it's really up to you if you want to buy it.

I have tons of domain names that I have bought because it was a good domain name and in many cases for no other reason.

Thanks for your response ...but what I mean is that I suggested a domain name which does not exist in Namecheap database and has never been there ...and I was given a price to register/purchase it...whats your advise on that?

Ok, well I really can't tell you to buy it or not to buy it.

Ask yourself - are you're ok with the price? And is this a domain name that you really want?

Answer those two questions and you'll know what you should do.

I hope this helps

Hi Jimcre3!
Hello. If the domain name is not available, it may mean that someone else has already got the one you want. However you can add a word or your initials or number to the domain name you want and see if that is available it.You may find that it is available.
Hope this helps.

If it is available and you want it....go for it! I try to look at this way....if the 'cost' matches the price of something frivolous purchase throughout the year....what would be the loss? At least you have the option to 'sell' back the name at a futre time.

Is it free to transfer your domain name to WA from Namecheap
Reply

The transfer is free. The domain name cost money depending upon what price is listed for it. WA suggest namecheap.com and godaddy.com, but we have the liberty of buying it from wherever we want.

Domain name registration and site hosting are two separate things. Namecheap does the first; WA does the second.

You don't transfer the domain name registration to WA. Namecheap is your registrar for the domain name and you'll need to renew it there each year.

By pointing the DNS settings (at namecheap) to the ns1.mywahosting.com and ns2.mywahosting.com addresses, you're telling anyone accessing your site that it's hosted here at WA. The WA servers then point any requests to your specific site,

I found a domain name that is cheaper to purchase from somewhere besides namecheap. If I'm going to transfer the domain here anyway, it doesn't matter where I purchase it from, right?

Hi Derrick - yes, you can purchase from other provider besides namecheap as long as you point your domain from a provider to the following servers here in WA:

Primary Name Server
ns1.mywahosting.com

Secondary Name Server
ns2.mywahosting.com

All the best,

I want to know if this Domain Name "MakeMoneyAffiliates" will be fine enough for promoting affiliate programs? Will it drive good traffic? I need help please!

I wouldn't use it. The way it is worded isn't a natural way of saying it.

Hi BobsResource! The keyword maybe too broad. Maybe looking at the keyword tool at the Lt side listing or or check it out a Jaaxy and find similar keywords that you may be happy with to register.

If you're looking for what drives traffic, try Jaaxy. It can give you the traffic of keywords and then you can use those words to design a domain name. You can get a free trial from jaaxy (30 searches), But I just ended up registering for it because I use it for pretty much every post I write on my website. It's got so much useful information on it and it's a great tool for directing traffic to your site. it's info is very accurate, almost exact when it comes to google searches per month.
