About NicoAlpaca

I shear alpacas on Vancouver Island. I love those animals. They are free spirits and supply humans with exceptional fibre every year.

I discovered alpacas on internet. I was looking for exotic animals I could work with and found a site on Llamas and Alpacas. I was living in Quebec then and visited two farms. I bought two but could never buy a farm.

I moved to British Columbia when I accepted a job as a quality assurance specialist on Navy ships. I did the same job in Montreal and wanted to take advantage of a once in a life time move to beautiful Vancouver Island.

Up to that time, I was mainly working on computers and Navy equipment. When the Canadian Government terminated the maintenance program I was working on, I lost that job.

I have been working on all sorts of other jobs. Many are more physical and I am happy to finally use my dexterity. My favorites are driving vehicles, using fork lifts and shearing alpacas.

I started WA because living in Paradise is expansive and I feel it will help me create passive income. I also love the training helping us to easily build decent websites.

Its so nice to meet you via our message the other day. I would love to know how you went about finding your farm. How long was It before you added the alpacas? I know it will take me a year to get all this going, so I need to get busy making some money! Any grants out their available for farmers?
thanks for your advice!

I never had a farm and I had to board my animals. That is the main reason why I no longer have them. The price for a farm here on Vancouver Island is way too high. I bought the first two alpacas while I was still in Quebec. They stayed on the original farm for 2 years before I got them shipped to BC. The third animal stayed on the BC farm also for a year. When all three were here (with one baby born in Quebec), they got to live on another farm. In BC, there are no grants to start alpaca farms. The establish farms do get a break on property tax when they earn enough money from selling the fleece to get farm status. Find a farm near where you live and ask many questions. Cheers, Nicole

Hey, Nico.
Paul Mindra here from Ontario just northwest of Toronto.

Thank you for inviting me to be a part of your network. I graciously accept by following you back.

Welcome to our Community. You are going to love it here.

I have been to Vancouver Island. What a wonderful place.

Alpacas huh? I love it. Yum, Yum. I am a former professional Chef. Just kidding Nico about the yum, yum. I would not know what to do with their fibre. Obviously, you do. You have such an incredible personality.

I am very pleased to make your acquaintance.

Stay in touch and reach out if you ever need.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Thank you for the follow back. You have an interesting view of life.

Alpacas on Vancouver Island are not food, they are more enjoyment for the owners. There are presently very few active breeding farms here. The market is more on fiber and alpaca fiber products. Alpacas are bred for food in South America and a bit in Alberta. Very red meet and little fat. It tasts a bit like game meet.

I wish you continued fun with WA. Cheers, Nicole

Hello Nico,

I love your profile description. It makes me want to learn more about alpacas.

I am only on level 2 of the training. I have learned so much from the training that I never expected to know. I still have a long way to go since I am very computer illiterate but getting better.

Thanks for following me.

Hello Nicole,
Thank you for your following note.
Nicole by moving to Vancouver Island you just have extended your life for another 10 to 15 yrs. Quite a lovely place this Island is. I was there in 1994.
Regarding the Alpaga honestly never heard about them but have a chance to be close to Llamas when I was in Machu Picchu (they were a bit of aggressive).
Another thing that impressed me a lot was the whirpools when I in a car bardge going to the Island.
All the best ,

Hello Marcus, Vancouver Island is indeed a very nice place. I have not worked much with llamas, they are much larger. Alpacas are easier to work with and their fleece is nicer. Thanks for the message and I wish you success in WA. Cheers, Nicole

NicoAlpaca,
Love your profile! Years ago I lived on a farm, We had sheep, Hereford cattle, American bison and 2 Lamas to guard the sheep. It was a most wonderful experience and fun as we grew up. I turned to gardening but the animals are in my blood. Thank you for reminding me of those.
I do envy you having the alpaca, what fun.
Make it a great day and I will follow you as well.

Thanks for the follow and connecting. Are alpacas good humored? Do they spit? Or are they more mild-mannered? Do you shear them and sell their fine soft hair? I know a lot of people use it to make crafts such as hand felting. I even thought of using it for the hair on the dolls I make. Any ideas? Great to meet you.
Reply
NicoAlpaca Premium
Hi Robert, Most alpacas are mild because the serious breeders have bred the aggressiveness out of their program. They spit at each other to determine dominance but not much at humans. I shear the fleece but I do not own the alpacas so I normally do not get the fiber. Most of the serious owners sell the raw fiber or process it to make roving or yarn. Other make products such as socks, mittens, hats and garments. I have also seen rugs made of alpaca fiber. I have a network here on Vancouver Island where you can get fiber of different colours. I would not use fine fiber for doll hair, I would go a bit more coarse (cat 2 or 3) to be more similar to human hair. Thank you for your follow and for your interest. I wish you lots of success. Without proper maintenance, company will plan to Budget for new replacement non hardware and not going to fix anything, I believed maintenance world contribute or equalise the Budget projection and good trajectory in spending where is should be spent.

Hi Nicole, hows the Alpaca's?

They must be a lot harder than shearing sheep, but I suppose when you get to the top part you don't have to bend down so much.

I would like to thank you for following me and I wish you the very best in all aspects of life.

It is great to meet you and big cheers!!!

Hi Brad,

I have never shorn sheep but I think it must be hard on the back. Sheep shearing is a young person job. Alpacas are shorn on a table where we tie the feet. They look like John Deere when they are ready to shear.

See the pictures on this post https://alpacaproductsnservices.com/alpaca-shearing-services. That's me shearing a brown female.

Have fun in your adventure with WA. Well worth the time and effort.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

I chose a niche. I will be using Alpaca Products and later I will use Alpaca Services. I shear alpacas all over Vancouver Island during the summer and I know a lot about the animals, their fiber and the products people make out of the fiber.

Hey Nicole and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

My name is Steve and I'm the owner of IveTriedThat. You signed up through me and I thought I'd tell you a little about myself. I joined Wealthy Affiliate back in 2009, over 7 years ago. I was looking to learn how to supplement my income through Internet Marketing and what I've found was so much more.

By 2010, I was working full-time from home. These days, ALL of my income comes from my ventures online. In fact, my wife just recently quit her job to start her own business as well. Internet Marketing and Wealthy Affiliate have provided us with amazing opportunities (we've bought a house, get to travel the world, and best of all, no longer spend time "going to work") and I'm incredibly thankful to the training, tools, and support here that made it all possible. :)

I'd love for you to see the same level of success. So, if you ever have any questions or need a hand with anything, do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I am here to help!

To get started, you should add a short description and upload a picture. Wealthy Affiliate is a community and having a profile and a picture will really help get you acquainted here.

Anyways, thought I would just introduce myself. If there's anything I can do for you Nicole, just let me know!

Cheers!

Steve
