Ambassadorship - Am I making it a goal?

I get asked this a lot! Well here is my answer- NO!

Here's why:

I have been with WA for less than 2 months. I know almost nothing. What little I do know, comes from the experience of those who have been here much longer than I have and have far more knowledge to share.

The facts are: I haven't made a sale. I haven't finished my website. I am trying to understand the concept and importance of google analytics. I am still working my way through Bootcamp. How could I be qualified to be an ambassador?!

Clearly, I am not.

Right now, I am a great cheer leader. I will encourage all I can! And I will enjoy every moment doing so! I will enjoy my learning experience and my wonderful friends! I love blogging now! Never thought I would, but here I do. It teaches us how to write quality content.

But for me to become an ambassador, - right now? It would only be a title.

I can wait.

I once was so worried about my rank here, until just recently my good friend Ken wrote a post about having the rank of ambassador and it opened my eyes. The only ranking that really matters is the ranking you have on Google and the other search engines.so I made a promise to him and myself to concentrate on my business and not my ranking here. Being top 100 isn't making me a dime, I've been here since June and if I would have put more effort into my business I'm pretty sure I'd be making money by now. So If my ranking goes back to the thousands at least I know that I gave it my all. Great post Debbie:)

That's great information to have Jazmin. Thank you for sharing your experience. I've been wondering the same thing - the rankings here are really good for keeping us motivated perhaps...but it makes perfect sense that spending more time on the site is where it's really at.

Absolutely Mel, Since I've been here I've spent so much time on reading posts and commenting that I lost site of why I'm here. I really love communicating with the community but I'm at the point where It's time to get serious about why I'm here. Once I see some success then I'll be able to help others in a big way:)

Helping people here will not put money in your pocket

Helping people here will not put money in your pocket per se, what it does have a value for is its very good practice and how you can help solve problems. If you approach your business with this in mind you are more likely to be prosperous

I totally agree Catherine, I'm not saying that I wouldn't help if I can. I always try to help as much as I can. But It's come to the point where I need to balance the time I spend on working my business and interacting with the community. Trust me, I love this community and have since I joined. But I Know It's time to focus more on my objective, which is to build a successful business.

Well-said, sweet Jazmin, that is why I love you, lol. :)

Aww, thank you Jewel. I love you too:)

Always enjoy your wisdom! I never looked at it like that. I love assisting people, watching them grow, work through challenges. I enjoy learning from them as well.

I hope one day I can see you, sweet Jazmin, lol. :)

You nailed this, Jaz! I told you earlier this week how smart you are and this just confirms it. I went to respond to Deb but you said it all. Kudos!

Yes she did!

But you might help them to reach their financial goals. They might help you in return even if indirectly. Some how the help we give returns to us in one way or another.

Very true! Good point

Thank you Debbi, I really appreciate it:)

If God permits, I also hope we can see each other. I would love to meet you and so many of my dear friends from WA. Thank you Jewel:)

Well, if we can get Vegas, we will!

Well after seeing the photos of this last Vegas trip, The only thing missing was more women. Time to step up the game. We can do this:)

Yes we can!

Well Said!

Thank you!

It is definitely something I have not worked at. I just answer my emails and post when I feel led.

We all just do our best and it shows.

Now that's what I call a good "WATITUDE"!! Love your work!! Jim...

Thank you.

Hi Debbie

Could not have said this better myself!

I'm fairly convinced that the algorithm is flawed - anyone who has time can comment on every single question and post, without adding any value. I see this a fair bit, and soon enough these people are ambassadors.

I agree with Howie, not having the badge doesn't mean you don't know your stuff. And for me, having the badge doesn't mean you do!

When I joined WA, I thought these people were the mentors, the long-timers with bundles of experience who could help and guide. Now I realise some are no different to me, they are just more active in the community.

We all came here to build an online business, but some have been distracted by the apparent glory of a badge.

C

Well put Claire. Things do need to be put into perspective here. Being active in the community as such doesn't really mean a great deal from what I've seen here. I too thought the ambassadors were well qualified to give help and advice. Some probably are, but there seem to be a lot who aren't.

Thanks, Alastair. Glad you agree :)

More time spent on WA is less time writing epic content for our websites.. which is supposed to be the whole point, right!

I have just noticed Jewel Carol's comment below which rings true - ranking in Google is more important. That should be the focus.

C

My view entirely , spot on Claire, it is refreshing to hear straight talk like yours....sadly too many members are "gaming" the system, probably not deliberately but this doesn't add value in my opinion!
~Arthur

Haha, thank you! I don't beat around the bush! :)

Certainly, before I accept advice from someone here, I go check them out and see if I think they know their stuff. If their website is poor, then I take their comments with a punch of salt.

C

Balance in all things is not always easy. The more I think about things the more I analyze. Maybe that's why I am stuck on alalytics. :-)

That is something else I don't understand. What does "gaming the system" mean? Why is this done?
If something is important to you or you enjoy what you are doing, why would someone feel the need to "game" it?

Analytics baffles me a bit :)

Apologies for hijacking your blog post a bit, Debbie..!

C

No apologies necessary! I appreciate it. Blogs are meant to create a discussion. Only then does it become a learning experience.

According to Wikipedia................"Gaming the system (also referred to as gaming the rules, bending the rules, abusing the system, milking the system, playing the system, or working the system) can be defined as using the rules and procedures meant to protect a system in order, instead, to manipulate the system for a desired outcome"

I suppose it all depends on what you perceive as the desired outcome, some of us just prefer to engage in"real" conversation.......maybe we are naive?

I agree wholeheartedly, I sometimes get the impression though, that maybe in a few cases discussion is actually not welcomed and seen as "hijacking" !!??

Sometimes I think naive is better. It seems only the ones guilty of "gaming" would be the ones accusing others of it.

Interaction based on an exchange of thoughts and ideas should not be considered highjacking.

Thanks, Debbie. Just covering my back.. :) Some people (not necessarily in WA) would have jumped on me for sparking debate like this on their thread. Communication via text only like this can sometimes be misconstrued and the last thing I want to do is upset anyone :)

I don't think anyone is gaming the system intentionally, but the comments like "sorry, can't help" to a question or, as has happened to me a number of times, people not reading the question before firing off a irrelevant reply, means a query is no longer unanswered on the dashboard so others might not feel inclined to take a look and help. Yet, if my hunch is correct, this kind of interaction is rewarded.

Seems a few of us have a bug in our collective ass about this topic today (pardon the expression!):
Don't be half arsed when commenting on sites, you are missing out on opportunities.

C

I've seen that and wondered about that. Is that to let someone know that we at least we read the post? At first, after several of these, I thought that was what I supposed to do.
Then after I was foolish enough to do that once.. I thought...
"Sorry I can't help" - what good is that? Leave it for someone who can.
Now if I can't help, I stay silent. Better to be silent and look stupid than to open your mouth and prove it.

Thanks Debbie, you and Jason make a very good point...anyway its great to be able to "chew the cud" with like minded people!

Haha, I like that.. quote of the day:

"Better to be silent and look stupid than to open your mouth and prove it."

C :)

I think this is awesome and I don't think you should de-value recognizing it, either. As long as you are motivated and willing to take action on those things you mentioned that you haven't done yet in order to make SURE you DO, you will be more than qualified before you know it. I have no problem with ambassadorship, but I think things like this should be more clearly explained upfront for newer members.

However, most people that are so actively involved here to become ambassadors, spend a lot of time learning every facet of building a business and may just take a little longer or may be more meticulous before taking action as quickly as others. It doesn't mean that they don't know what they're talking about. I could probably play devil's advocate on this one all day.

All the best!

That's a good point! I wasn't trying to devalue my contribution, but maybe I am. I just feel there are others who know so much more than I do and would be better qualified.

Wooot 56!!! In 2 mth...well i hv been here for 2 mth too..my web hvn't complete....hvn't finish my tutorial and i always blame my limited time. But yr achievement makes me realized that it can be done. I hope you get your ambadorship soon.

Everyone has limited time, it's what we do with it that determines our success rate. I made simple daily WA goals. I do my schoolwork, go to work, come home. I can't do all that I want to do, but I do what I can. Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can!

Learn and help. Your rank will take care of itself. Ranking 56 in two months is incredible. You have been helping a lot of people.

Thank you! I will assist the best way I know how! - encouragement

Thank you Debbie for you post
I am your top cheerleader
Ken

And you are one of the best mentors!!! ((Hugs))

I think if you like blogging you should pursue that.

I guess I never really thought about it like that. Thank you!

no problem good luck!
