Beware of the Pay Pal Scam going on.
Hey Folks, I seem to remember that their was a blog or question recently about if their was some kind of Ebay or Pay Pal scam going on. Here's a heads up for everyone. Apparently a bogus company using the name of GoGator (Probably a theft of that company's name as well) is sending out notifications using the Pay Pal Logo that your account has been limited and you need to update your information. Its a phishing thing that asks you for your address and other personal information. At the same time that you are looking at what appears to be the paypal screen a tab pops up (in Russian) requiring you to use a translator app to find out what's being said. RDS pops up once the translation is done. (have no clue about that one.)
If you receive a notification saying your Pay Pal account has limitations put on it and asking for an update, immedeately forward the email to spoof@paypal.com and run a virus check. DO NOT PUT ANY PERSONAL ADDRESS OR OTHER INFORMATION IN THE FIELDS. It does look just like the official Pay Pal website so it's easy to mistake. I got two of these notices in three days, so called Pay Pal to check and yep...it's a fraud.
Also if any of you all are using GoGator for your web hosting, you might want to let them know this bogus operation is using their logo as well.
Marty

Yeah, I've seen a LOT of PayPal scams over the years, and one of the most classic ways to tell if it IS actually paypal contacting you or it is indeed bogus is to check the domain name of the email you receive.
A bogus classic example is: "@PayPaI.com" (noticed I used a capital "i" for the "L" ?
Also, nearly every time from memory, when PayPal contact me, they address my full name at the beginning of the email.
If you do click through to a PayPal email link, always double-check the domain name that you're heading to, and verify that it is http://PayPal.com.
If you notice something out of the ordinary, then it probably is.
Finally, always, ALWAYS have a GOOD, reputable PAID anti-virus package on your PC always up-to-date with the latest virus definitions. I recommend Kaspersky Pure, and Bitdefender packages. You can usually find a cheap OEM version at wholesale PC specialists for around $20 for a year, as opposed to buying from the official sites.
A good anti-virus protection on your PC will save you a massive headache as it will notify you, and block your PC from visiting suspicious sites such a phishing scams and what-not.
Good luck!!
Yes, my blog yesterday on this got removed!! I've no idea why - what was important this time round was the timing - shortly after the shop sent me a notification of my order the scammers mailed me to say there was a problem...it is the timing that could make people open something they normally wouldn't
will be interesting if your paypal blog can stay up but not mine?!
I think it was me that you are referring to who asked about the paypal scam lol. Thanks for clearing thisngs up,
Thanks for sharing. There have been lots of PayPal scams and I do what you do, I report them to PayPal. ~Marion
