Help! Get me back on track.

Hi guys

I've been missing a lot lately and struggling to get back on track. This year has been fantastic for me with heaps of travel and wonderful adventures along the way. From early January I spent three months living in Germany's stunning Mosel Valley on a house-sitting assignment. Afterwards I came home to Ireland for a few weeks then set off for Hong Kong with my good friend Sue. We travelled overland through China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand finally arriving home last month. I did some writing along the way and had some articles and pictures published on an international travel website which gave me great confidence.

However my itchy feet are still itchy! Motivation is a problem right now and the 'high' of travelling has been replaced by the reality of needing to write, study and discipline myself. My lovely friend Heather from WA described it beautifully as 'being without a compass' and that is exactly how it feels particularly as I have just sold my house and am also between addresses right now.

I did manage to do a little writing and have started a webpage design course - both of which I have enjoyed which is reassuring. So my dear Wealthy Affiliate friends, any suggestions or advice on how to get back on track?

Hi Lorna, this can be a problem. My advice is set goals and work toward them. There is an old saying "without a vision the people perish". I'm trying to scold you but you did ask for advice. Bless you.

Many thanks George and you are right to scold - I have been procrastinating of late and needed a bit of a nudge...blessings to you too... :-)

You are very welcome

Nice to hear from you. Your travels sound so exciting. I think like others here, write about your adventures. Focus on one thing then another, pretty soon it starts coming together. :)

Thanks so much for the support Judy - I know part of my problem is that I have so many things happening to distract me at the moment. Focusing is a problem but no doubt it will settle down in time particularly when I get my house move sorted out.

I understand that one. I moved a few months back, lived with my youngest daughter and her family for a month before I finally found my own place. During that time needless to say I didn't get much done on my site. Even when things settled a bit I still struggled with getting myself going, but it will happen. Have a great weekend. :)

Hello Lorna, it is great to hear from you. I read time from time that you travel a lot. It is wonderful and I am happy for you. Take everything easy, think what you want to do with your websites and you will be fine. Follow your heart. You accomplished so much, now you can do more here in WA. All the best to you, Nemira.

Hi Nemira - thanks so much for taking the tim to reply. Yes - my heart is still travelling I think! But I will soon be back to my old self I am sure. Best wishes to you. :-)

Thank you Lorna:)

I can relate to that had too much time away when I first started here and found it difficult to find my pace again, be wonderful to hear your travel experiences, by writing about them perhaps would inspire you once more

Thanks so much Katie - you are right, a long gap is difficult to come back from - but I am feeling encouraged already thanks to you all!

I am looking forward to those travel tales don't forget

Aw thanks Katie - here are a few I had published on another site already - enjoy....http://feroniasfrolic.com/category/goddesses/lorna-sue/

I understand you are quite bored without the travel escapades, can't you re-live them and write about it? Or even plan ahead for a nice trip again? Let us, "housesitters in our own homes" relish from your travelstories......

So sweet of you Loes - yes I will get around to it - especially with lots of encouragement from WA! I have lots of stories to tell and need to discipline myself better I think..!
Many thanks for taking the time to reply - good luck to you and I hope your new job is going well...

Thanks Lorna, my job is going great, we have laughed a lot today, I had a lot of words written down on seperate papers, and they had to descibe which word they had, without naming it, and the others had to guess what word was on the paper.
Example: (apple) it is round, it is red, it's a fruit, can be sweet or sour

It was quite difficult and a big brainsearch for Netherlands words.

Your job sounds like fun! I had a short experience teaching children in Cambodia and your reply reminds me of playing word games with them.... ;-)

It is, Lorna, your life sound to me like fun too;)

Sorry too busy reading about your adventures on Worldly Wise Women...

I love it - thanks Olive! So glad to hear it...!

Wish I had known about house sitting and pet sitting years ago!!

It is terrific Olive - I definitely recommend it!!

I did do a house swap a couple of years ago and it worked out great.

Hey Lorna,

Almost 18 yrs ago my (then) husband and I sold our house in the country, quit our jobs and sold just about everything we owned and took off on a year-long adventure across the southern USA and Western Canada in a VW camper van. We had no fixed address, no cell phones, no bathroom in the camper!!!, and no set agenda other than to feel the freedom. We took a big risk and chucked it all for a while. We had been married for 6 or 7 years already and told by doctors that I would be unable to have children, so hence the adventure at almost 35 yrs old. It was a strange feeling to be without a compass and no fixed address...no job..and no purpose other than to explore new territory and have a wild adventure. And as strange as it may sound...it did take some getting used to at first. But what I learned from that 'unhinged' feeling was to embrace it and trust that when things were supposed to change again, they would, and that all I needed to do was let go and get out of the way. Needless to say, I have proof that I did indeed let go...and not just of the house, job, and merry-go-round. It was a complete surrender on all levels to the unknown. The proof? I became pregnant on that trip...and so there was my literal sign showing me that another new adventure was going to begin. I now have a beautiful, almost adult daughter all because at one point in time I embraced the feeling of being without a compass. Life has a funny way of giving us what we want when we allow things to unfold without resistance as we wait for an answer. Not sure if this will help you in any way, but I offer this from the heart as you know. I am also telling this story for myself...I need to remember this right now too.

Many blessings for you, Lorna.
Warmly, Heather :-)

Heather - you are an angel! What an amazing story - all things happen for a reason and as they are meant to happen. Your words are so reassuring that all is as it should be and a reminder to have faith that it will turn out for the best.
Just chatting to you guys has been a tonic and revived my spirit so much....
Blessings to you too Heather and all the awesome members of WA...thank you my friends one and all...
;-)

Hey Lorna,
Nice to hear from you again. You're enjoying your great adventures! Start putting them on pen and paper. Stay focus! You'll do a great job! Success to you. Take care. :)
~Norleila

Norleila! So nice to read your message...yes my adventures were so good I do not want to go back to normal life..! But all will be fine with encouragement from my great friends at Wealthy Affiliate. I hope you and your family are all well.. :-)

Thanks Lorna, we're fine and well.
Engage your gear and press on the accelerator. Change your gear if you must but don't pull your handbrake,LOL.
Happy driving towards your success. :)

Beautiful Norleila - thanks so much... vroom vroom!!

First let me say that losing motivation and getting off track are normal and happen not only in WA.

This is the time where some give up as it is much easier than digging in and working hard to reach your goals.

Two things will help get you through the lull.

First, your peers support. Those in the community and outside the community will boost your confidence. Look at your website and praise yourself for the amazing accomplishments and realize what more you can do.

Secondly, take a look at your goals. You should have them written down somewhere, if not do it now. Remember how stoked you were when you first started WA and made your goals. Dream a little, were all good at that.

Finally, just start writing whatever comes to mind and don't stop.

I'm here for you.

ROCK ON!
E

Hey Eric - many thanks for your kind words. I thought that the support of the community would indeed help and you are spot on with your suggestions!
I will do as you say and write down my goals - I think that would be a good place to start...my motivation needs a kick at the moment....
With all good wishes....
Lorna

I'm not sure what your niche is but to get inspired to write I go to the music store and look and play with all the neat equipment they have. My niche is about recording music.

Better days lie ahead ... :)

E

Just keep writing on your experiences while traveling and also with your webpage design course.
You are an awesome talent and I believe in your abilities to continue with the fine work you and Sue were doing overseas.
That is another aspect to writing about the kids with the classes, dancing the fun and games they had what you share and learned from each other.
You will get much from that alone.

Enjoy dear friend enjoy.
Take care be well
Andre

Andre - you are always guaranteed to put a smile on my face with your words of support....
At this moment in time I would so much rather be with those kids than write about them - but life is as it is and I have to knuckle down and do what needs to be done...
Thank you so much dear friend.
Love and hugs....

Always there for a friend. Take care be well xo

Top of the morning to all of you (◠‿◠✿)
Reading through these replies is exactly what we have been talking about - this crazy family is an incredibly well-oiled encouragement machine.
What joy to read such good advice - I must try and remember so I can pass these nuggets on to other needy souls ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Have fun with your writing, Lorna - it won't take you long to get into the swing of things again

Hey Tony - thanks so much - you are so right Wealthy Affiliate sure is one well oiled encouragement machine! A couple of messages and I can feel the uplift already.... :-) thanks guys!!
