Today in chat, we discussed the use of (unknowingly) copyrighted images.

Copyright infringe or copyright violation.

What to do when you receive a Getty Settlement?

I have surfed the internet today for information about this, and found a great article about it, which will lead easily through the steps to take.

Can I Ignore a Getty Settlement Demand Letter? (No)

The best pictures to use are your own :)

Hi Loes, great advice. Irv.

Thanks Irv.:)

This is very good advice.

Thanks James:)

thanks for the useful share! :)

You're welcome Asen:)

If it were Copyrighted wouldnt it either say so or have the photographers name on it? If neither is there, is there anything to stop you using it seeing its in the Public Domain.?

Well, you have to go out from the point of view, if you didn’t write it, it wasn’t yours and you shouldn’t use it without proper attribution. Until you can prove that an image is not copyrighted, don’t use it!

Good information Loes, I always use Google Images, you can get images for free reuse on that sight, and I always try to use Pixabay images if I can, but you never do know when you may pick the wrong one, just with a slip of the finger on the keyboard. So we need to know this info.:-))Steph

I just placed a re: at the question of Saidako, you might want to read it Steph

Thank you for the warning Loes, maybe I will start taking my own images.:-))Steph

good advise again, loes,
keep up the good work,
cheers,
PB

Thanks Phil

Good to know... It is also good to use free images from Google. Google has bunch of images that can be used for free.

Pat

That's right Pat

Thanks for this. I once knew a lady who used a copyrighted image, she was asked to pay almost $700. I don't know how the case ended but I know she paid something. I'm not sure either whether it involved Getty images.

Getty has its own images but also can be hired to find misused images, and then they sue you

Yes, the best solution is to create your own images.

Yes, that is best, but we are not all photographers Craig:(

Thanks for sharing, Loes! It is good to know!

You're welcome, yes you never know when you need it:)
