Authorship bites the dust
Big news today is that Google is terminating the authorship program alltogether.
No worries now about images. The whole thing is being scrapped.
In a study by Stone Temple Consulting. It appears that only 30% of authors were even attempting to use it. Yeah, WA was higher.
Of these only 10% were using it correctly.
So, since it was not working and sucked a huge amount of Google resources, they decided to say Bye-Bye.
Yet another Google Experiment gone awry.

OK, so. I have spent literally the entire day, along with help from JL1777, trying to get my Authorship to work. Because I did not use a typical template and basically deleted the header code in the template I am using, it refuses to recognize my authorship.
Do I now just say "oh well" and go along with finishing up my site? Or will Google penalize me because I don't have the traditional wordpress code in my header?
We gotta go with flow, even if that means swimming against the tide. Sooo much fun! Not!
Indeed.. but try doing that against the flow.. You'll drown.. lol.
Tough this one out.. sucks to deal with wasted time. That however is what makes successful people. Overcome the downs and failures with ease and respect.
Live learn and prosper
For now, yes but if things keep going this way I won't be breathing for long......I'll be hyperventilating!
We'll all just have to grab our brown paper bags, breathe in and out and suck it up. We chose this, for better or worse. I have been more committed to this than some of my marriages. Ha ha! It's true!
I wouldn't mess with the header information, there are valid reasons to have headers created as they are.
If you know your way around programming, you would understand what all of the lines in your header mean.
Yes, I agree. And I DONT know my way around programming, so I am starting over with a different theme!
Safe choice. Or you can reload the one you have. Just select another, Delete the theme and reload it.
I don't like the header structure in the theme I had, so I've got a new one, now the task is to fit all the existing content into the new theme in a way that makes sense.
I also read recently that they are going to index sites with SSL's higher. Apparently for safety reasons they like https: better than http: Everyone might want to consider adding SSL to your site whether you need it or not. Not a "for sure" but from what I read it is.
I think I read something from Kyle, or was it Carson, saying no that isn't the case at all, or did I just dream it? It's 4.30am and I should be asleep.
It was quite a recent thing, I think it was a reply to something last week. But yes, it does need to be checked out.
Jay has mentioned that this may be a low ranking tool that can help some sites. There is a cost associated with an https though.
Sounds like a perfect opportunity to me for anyone who was in that program to be inducted into WA. Know anybody that's in the Google program?
I'm bummed. I learned how to use it and I liked it although I can see where it would take up a lot of resources. :-(
Wow! I was just about to double check and see if my authorship was set up correctly and then I saw your blog. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for sharing this final read for me tonight. Super helpful and glad I know this early...
Has me wondering their next search engine project.
Hopefully Kyle and Carson thinks up another lesson in replacement.
I'm sure that there will be updates here at WA.
Big ups to you Labman for being on top, I have a gut feeling that another system is on the cards.
With such an informative and supportive community at WA I am not worried at all.
