UPDATE 22/2/18

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this post and send their good vibes our way... Cyclone Fehi came and went and we were fortunate enough to miss the brunt of it. There's a few road slips and plenty of damage and disruption to other regions, but amazingly Cape Foulwind got off very lightly.

All in all it wasn't as bad as they first thought and probably a bit of a 'storm in a teacup' for the Buller region.

Wishing our counterparts in Nelson/Golden Bay, Wellington and Taranaki all the best and we hope you get back to normal very soon.

A couple of weeks ago our little region got a battering from Cyclone Fehi with huge winds and sea / river flooding. It has left about 30 homes uninhabitable, and damage of roads and property runs into the millions.

And now, we are expecting another visitor... Cyclone Gita! She's expected here on Tuesday night... I'm nervous! As you can see on the forecast below, we are pretty much in Cyclone Gita's path.

So it's batten down the hatches here at Cape Foulwind (yes, that is really where I live!), and hopefully we won't come off too much worse for wear.

We are really busy here at the lodge as it's the middle of our high season, and there are a lot of tourists about. I just hope they stay safe during their travels and don't do silly things like drive in the middle of a storm, or go down to the beach when the surf is so dangerous!

I may not be as active on here over the next few days, but rest assured, I'm toiling away in any spare time I have, trying to hit that 12000 word count target that Kyle has set for us all in the Super Affiliate Challenge!

Kia Kaha

(Stay Strong)

Best wishes, Karen

It keeps coming towards us but a front is coming up towards it and may start pushing it your way. I am use to them as I have lived in the south eastern corner of Queensland. They usually slide down the QLD coast and shoot across to NZ.
They have been staying well out to sea this summer and not getting weaker. We have one on our west coast of AU. We should be getting big seas on the Gold Coast now.
A storm has just gone past us up the western side of the range instead of out to sea. I think the cyclone is pushing it north not north east as every storm always goes n/e.
Tom.

I need to recheck the weather reports as it was heading straight for us when I last checked - but maybe it will end up further south than our region... either way, someone is going to cop it.

Gita. Big surf on Gold Coast.

You guys cop it all over there don't you. Earthquakes galore, cyclones and BIG seas.

Good luck, hope all is well for you.

Yip, never a dull moment in the land of the long white cloud!

Hoping you all stay safe with minimal damage.

Thankyou for your kind words, Cheers, Karen

Hope everything will be okay and the cyclone loses all power. On a lighter note, a cyclone is a foul wind so shelter and stay safe just in case.

Best wishes Karen from your cuz across the water.

Hey Cuz! Nice to hear from you and thanks, yes it's a foul wind alright - hopefully more bark than bite... Cheers, Karen

We must be getting some end effect here because the winds have been strong North Easters and the humidity is shocking. I am having 3 showers a day.

Good luck

Hey Karen - keep safe!

Thank you!

Yes, keep safe...always.

Thanks James, appreciate your kind words, Cheers, Karen

Good Morning Karen,

Thinking of you and hope all goes well for you and everybody else.

Stay safe, Taetske

Hey thank you so much. I might be doing some work with the 'recovery phase' once this passes, so that will keep me out of mischief! Cheers, Karen

Good Morning Karen,

Your update was from the 19th.
Here it is 09.00 in the morning and the 20th so your day is well advanced. I hope everything is ok and that the worst has passed leaving no damage to your place.

All the best, Taetske

Keep safe and dry, Karen. Good luck with your 12,000 words I'm also still way off target.

I'm about 40% there. So I've got a lot of work to do! All the best, cheers, Karen

You stay safe, OK? And may all your cyclone writing be wonderful writing. :)

If I could write as fast as the winds in this cyclone, I'd be nailing this target! Cheers, Karen

Oh no! Praying for your safety and minimal damage from back to back cyclones. We lived in Japan for a couple years and remember a couple good typhoons coming through our area. Very unnerving!

Wishing you and your guests safety during this stormy time!

Thank you so much, Cheers, Karen
