I appreciate the fact that there are many themes to choose from in WordPress, however, my niche is Chihuahua Health, and I'd really love to have a custom theme with pictures of

First, I appreciate all the feedback and info - thanks very much. And, I have to share this. This morning I went back out to Google and searched for the following:
"Does Elegant Themes have a theme for Chihuahuas" and take a look at what I saw on page 1!!

Wow! That's great Julie; I think I need to ask more questions after seeing that!

https://themeforest.net

My son is an advertising professional has had used this before.

If you search for the word dog one comes up with a Chihauahua picture on it - called Joffrey

Thanks for the link, Darleen, I'll check it out!

Thanks Julie. Im with you.

Hey Julie,

If you are only after a custom theme for your niche, you might want to try Google searching for one.

However, if you are prepared to purchase a new theme I would highly recommend you purchase a theme that is fully optimized. Here's why I suggest this: https://useyourpassion.com/why-use-a-quality-wordpress-theme

Hi Trish,
The linked info here is great. Ive been considering changing my theme. What I have now does not seem quite right for my niche. Ive got a ton of questions about my current set up.
I dont mind paying if it means a better site later.
Any thoughts ?

Hey Mark,

My thoughts are truly shared in the post linked above as it is my post.

Since updating my personal blog with a quality theme ... and ... doing the optimizing shared here: https://useyourpassion.com/11-steps-to-make-wordpress-lightning-fast my site went from 1,800 monthly visitors to 24,000 monthly ... which is why I've written and shared these posts.

Hope this answers your question.

Wow! That is amazing! I noticed it was yours.

I'll read more of what you've shared. It's really time to make the adjustments I think about. That;s my opinion, but being fairly new still I just don't want to be doing the wrong thing.
I'm sure I will have more questions later. Hope you won't mind?

Thanks Trish, I'll check out the link and give it a read. I appreciate your input!

I am a big fan of Elegant Themes - I use both their Divi and Extra themes. Give them a try at https://www.elegantthemes.com/

Also, there are a ton of tutorials on how to use these themes on YouTube, my favorites come from the Darrel Wilson YouTube page.

p.s. my niche site uses the Extra theme - https://doityourselfhomecomputing.com/

Plus one for elegant themes. I'm a big fan. My site https://baldercash.com is running on their Divi theme. The themes are really customizable and there are loads of tutorials and resources online.

Thanks for the info, Isaac! I'll check this out, for sure!!

Isaac, I checked out your site - really nice!

Hi Julie..
When you log into your site check the very top after the name.. you should see something that tells you whether your ads are working correctly. It should say Ad Check..
Kathi

Thanks Kathi. If I decide to try Adsense again (they didn't approve me the first time I applied), I'll keep that in mind.

Hey Julie,

Not having used Adsense I cannot say proof-positive but it sounds like this code may be for verification only. Doing some Google searching I found the following post: https://support.wix.com/en/article/verifying-your-site-using-header-codes

As for the code needed to embed ads from Adsense, that code should be suggested as being inserted in your posts or widgets once you've been authorized by Adsense.

Thank you! So just a short while after asking this question, I received an email from Google saying my Adsense application was not approved. Evidently they weren't impressed with my website. Guess I'll have to work on that. Also, saw a post by another member here questioning why anyone would sign up with Adsense and clutter up their site with ads, just to earn a few cents. So I'm definitely going to do some additional research.

Hey Julie,

I'm with that member's thinking ... and, I too was turned down by Adsense. Too bad so sad ... and I honestly do not feel it a bad thing for me. I prefer Amazon and I'm sure you'll find members who don't like Amazon. Each of us has our own likes and dislikes, so further research is a good idea.

However, didn't Kyle cover how Adsense MIGHT not accept your site and not to panic? I know his training has been updated lately, and that was covered in the training I took, so I guess it made it easier for me too when Adsense denied me.

Anyway ... there are LOADS of other affiliate programs out there to choose from. Pick wisely ... and change when/where necessary.

Excellent topic and discussion, thanks Julie.

you guys are so great! Thanks so much for all the help and I hope you have a great day!

Hi Julie,

To copy the html code to the <head> go to your site's Dashboard.

1. Click on Appearance ---> Editor
2. You are now in Edit Themes page, but don't touch anything there other than what I am entering here.
3. On the right-hand side there is a list. Look for 'Theme Header'
(In your Theme it might be just 'Header').
4. Click on 'Theme Header' / 'Header'
5. On the left-hand side under Edit Themes - Theme Header - look for <head> and paste the Google Adsense html code immediately after <head>
6. Arrow down the page and click on 'Update File'.

That should do it :-)

I did what you said. I can't see anything happening.

It could take a little while for Adsense to be activated. Check again in an hour or so...

well, it is working now thank you. Is there a video that explains how to have google ads on chosen posts? That is where I am at in my training. I am not sure how to phrase the question to get an answer in ask your question here.

Go to Appearance -> Editor
Right hand column will show all the files in your theme.
One of them will be header.php which you can then look at to see if the adsense code is there and if it isnt you can added manually.
Of course you also need a plugin for adsense so it can display the adverts that the header code will pull for you.

you're not going to see that code but when Google sends crawlers to your site they'll read the code

I've signed up with 3 affiliate programs so far, but I'm having trouble with the next step of adding links to my website. One of the affiliate programs wants a link added to m

The homepage is the first page you see when you visit your site.

You will either have a static front page or blogroll - if you have a blog, then you would add it to the sidebar of your pages so that appeared on the Home page (or in the footer, etc.)

I do have a blog roll. So I look for the sidebar of my pages? I'll check it out. Thanks for your help.

Good morning! I have to admit, I had no idea what you meant by "sidebar". I was able to do some exploring in my Wordpress admin site yesterday and figured it out! Woo hoo! I was able to add "Additional Resources" as a choice on my sidebar and I also was successful at getting the link I was trying to add, under that heading. Thanks so much for your help! Have a great and blessed day!
