After reading some blogs and comments, it was said that it was OK to change the title of a post as long as you didn't change the permalink. So I went ahead and removed the date

Go to settings in your wordpress dashboard and make sure the permalink format matches your desire. If all was ok. It should look as still is there...

Hi Fleeky, I have checked the permalink and it is the same as it was before. I appreciate the advice, thank you.
Jenny

Very strange
Better ask site support to look into this for you

Your second comment in regards to getting help is what got me here, I'm going to suggest to refeteching your article and see if its shows back in #3.

I'm no expert at this but, what happens is usually when you make changes to your article, it's a good idea to fetch it so Google knows that you made changes.

There is no guarantee that it will show up again, but i personally seen when I fetch articles that disappeared in the search engines
reappear again once I fetch again.

Another way to get answer to questions is to make statements like you just made! You want to get answers to get successful at what you want, sometimes you gotta claw your way to your top! Great Statement Girlfriend!

Hi Evelyn, thanks for all the great advice, I will try your suggestions, and read the post.
For 12 months I had watched my post slowly make it's way up to page 3 of Google, when it disappeared, I was a bit gutted. My first thought was to reach out to friends at WA for help and with the exception of Phil, nothing! I was a bit gutted again! Thanks for your supportive comments, much appreciated.
All the best
Jenny

Also, please continue to write content and do good keyword research, by doing that, it is going to help keep your articles ranking. I also know this because I've had my share of NOT consistently writing articles and that can be a reason why traffic and rankings diminish, best of luck to you!

Hi Evelyn, Yes I will try and be more consistent with content, I know it is important. Last year was a bit of a none event, I was out for quite a few months with a shoulder injury, I thought I would get heaps done, but it effected my concentration and motivation. I am just coming good now, unfortunately they just told me I have to have the other shoulder fixed also, so will probably be out for the second half of this year as well. So I will need that luck lol.
Jenny

Hey Jenny I will pray for you, as I also know how life circumstances can happen. Best of luck!

Thanks Evelyn :)

I just looked again at "Wealthy Affiliate review 2018 scam or not" in Google with quotes and your post is #1. I can see your frustration!

It might be that the keyword gets a lot of competition and it will take time for it to rise up the ranks again. I just went into Google and searched for your keyword "Wealthy Affiliate review: scam or not" and that is the exact same title of someone else's post. There are many similar variations of it as well on other sites such as using a dash instead of the colon. You will need to find a different title to rank well probably. Otherwise you might have to wait awhile to compete.

Hi Jessica, thanks for your reply.
I had already done the waiting, and was starting to compete, I had watched it slowly work it's way up to page 3 of Google for "wealthy affiliate review 2018". When I took the date out of the title, it disappeared, I guess this may have changed my keyword? I don't know. Within 24 hours I put the date back in the title but nothing in the first 20 pages!
I really just want to know what action I took made it disappear so I don't repeat the mistake.
Thanks again
Jenny

Yes, I think that changes your keyword. There is more competition for that keyword without the date since then you are competing against post written over many different years.

With 2018 in the keyword if you search for it on Google in quotes, there are only 8 results. If you take 2018 out, there are 1,590 results. If you are now competing with 1,590 other similar posts it could take awhile for your post to come back up.

Can you find another angle to write from? What is your target audience? Can you target them more specifically and not have Wealthy Affiliate in the keyword at all?

If your long tail keyword was wealthy affiliate review 2018 - is that the exact keyword you put in your all in one seo? If it is than yes it would have changed your keyword somehow i believe

Or put another way.... on the bottom of your post when you edit it in wordpress you have your all in one seo pack for the title ,description, keywords etc...did you edit any of that when you took out the 2018?

Hi Jessica, yes I might look at some different angles and maybe write a new post. Thanks for your help.
Jenny

Hi Cathy, No I didn't change the keywords in the all in one seo, that all remained the same. I don't think I am going know for sure what happened, I think I'm going to have to chalk this one up to experience. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
Jenny

Sorry tom hear about this Jenny, I have heard of these anomalies before. Have you checked variations of "Wealthy affiliate review 2018:scam or not" in incognito mode without the quotes?

Yes, I have searched incognito for "wealthy affiliate review 2018:scam or not" it is still on page 2 of Google, but not many people would search this keyword. So I had been searching for "wealthy Affiliate review 2018" for months and it had slowly worked it's way onto page 3, this is the one that has disappeared.
I understand that I can't do anything about it now and will just have to learn from my mistake. But I wanted to find out why it happened so I don't do it again. I wanted to take the date out of the post title to make it appear more current.
While I have you here I have another question, hope you don't mind?
When I try to register with Google Analytics it asks for my website URL and it says I have to verify that I am the owner of the website. Can I enter a siterubix website and say I am the owner? or am I unable to do this because technically Wealthy Affiliate is the owner?
Thanks Kaju
Jenny

Hi Jenny,

As far as I know, you cannot register a siterubix site with Google Analytics. I could be wrong (but I don't thnk so); any site i"ve ever registered I owned myself as a .com or a .net. But it can be any available extension as long as YOU own it.

But that's easy, just purchase a new domain name you will own, and tell Site Support to transfer (copy) the contents from your siterubix site to your new domain name. I've done this several times here, as I use siterubix as test sites.

As far as SEO is concerned and how keywords and meta information affect it, you should read my recent blog post here: Hope this information can help you:)

Kaju

Thanks for the info on Google Analytics and domains, sounds pretty straightforward.
I am going to go cook dinner now, I have two sets of eyes looking at me LOL. I will take a look at your blog post a little later tonight.
Thanks for your time and your advice, I know it's getting late in your part of the world.
Jenny

Are you searching for it on Google using the old post title, the new post title or the permalink?

Have you checked that changing the post title didn't automatically change the permalink?

Hi Phil,
The permalink post title is still the same, it did not change automatically when I changed the title.

The permalink title Wealthy affiliate review 2018:scam or not is still showing on page 2 but it had also been on page 3 for Wealthy affiliate review 2018 that's the one that has disappeared and I have checked Google for that title, with and without the date, but nothing.

Thank you for your quick response.
Jenny

Sorry I couldn't really help.

No worries Phil, thanks anyhow.
