Can anyone tell me what is the significance of following someone or you being followed by someone? It is called a networking and should have some sort of benefits for the peopl
Rather then tell the truth I will say what I have been brainwashed to say. Following people helps you build your personal Network. It puts you in contact directly with like-minded people. Although most people here are supposed to be like minded. To be honest wa is primarily a group of social people. Your social interaction has far more to do with your ranking than your skills are what you learn.
Thanks so much for the brainwashed stuff as you put it, I guess I am trying to find out how to actually communicate with ones network. As you rightly said everyone here at WA is after one thing and that is ONLINE success.
It does have benefits. The more followers you have, the more people are likely to read your content and want to visit your site :)
So therefore it is not actual communication here but a path to showcasing ones website to all the members here at WA as we do not have direct contact to individual network.

There are several answers to this. First, as Jude said below, it gives you an audience to a certain degree. More people to potentially visit your site and therefore boost traffic to your site which increases your ranking in the search engines.
It also allows you to get to know people that may be able to help you as you progress. There are many people in my network that I have become familiar with. I know who to ask if I have a certain question. I can send a personal email to that person and ask for help, or post a question here and they will answer if they see it.
You may also be able to help those people as well. Over time, some of these people even become real friends as you help each other and get to know each other.
You could hypothetically, do well here without following anyone. It would be harder though. You could focus on the training, search out answers in posts and just build your website. You would not have the support of other members though.

Is it possible to promote opportunities that are not in anyway related to WA, but could be very useful to all and are all usually free?
I guess that is strongly depending on what you want to promote, I do promote all kind of free programs for video making, buttons, charts, website checkers etc. That are all programs which are useful for web development.
In other words once it is useful to the community it should be fine to promote it here is what you are saying.
So how do you promote this to the community?
