No more AdSense
AdSense be gone.
What is the best way to put 50 affiliate links on your site yet not get penalized by Google for having too many affiliate links?
Well, the hard way is to balance the affiliate links with a ton of posts and articles. I like writing but hey, that would be a lot of articles.
I run a site which has a whole spectrum of site visitors. My site attracts visitors from all walks of life. So how would I put 50 affiliate links on each page without looking spammy?
Did I make the links really teeny tiny? Nope. These are large banner ads. Oops, I'm not supposed to say that. We're supposed to be using text links. I was never good at following the crowd.
Do I have your curiosity going Ms Kitty Cat? You know what skinned the cat don't you?
Ok, I will stop teasing.
I located a plug in called Advanced Ads. Advanced Ads takes all your affiliate links or banners and organizes them into one ad folder. Yes, you can use text links if you are hard core about not using banners. When your site visitor goes to any page on your site then one banner is displayed. This is just like AdSense except you control the affiliate link. You also get paid a lot more than what AdSense pays you. Every page your visitor goes to displays a different ad just like AdSense.
I was getting frustrated with AdSense because it was not displaying ads which matched the content of my site. With Advanced Ads, I control which ads get displayed and where. I can keep the affiliate links relevant to what my site visitors may want to see.
What about configuring the size of an ad such as a banner?
To my surprise, Advanced Ads is smart enough to resize the banner to fit my web page.
Oh my goodness, I just checked my site on my cell phone and the ads look great. How cool is that?
How many ads can you have stored in the plug in?
Well, I purchased the pro version so there are no limits for me. I'm up to 27 ads and counting. I did 25 affiliate links in one sitting last night.
Is it hard to configure an ad?
Geez, I wish everything on WordPress worked this easy. I click on the "ads" link in my WP editor to insert a new ad. Give it a title just like I would a post. Paste the affiliate code in the code box. Click on a category (it's called an Ad Group). Then I click on "publish" and taa daa, I'm done.
This would be a great tool if you are an Amazon affiliate. You could have a whole catalog of stuff to show your site visitors.
"I want to display more ads at one time," you say?
No problem. Get the slider extension.
Speaking of extensions. Get the extensions bundle add ons. You get "Pop Up & Layer Ads" extension. Responsive Ads extension. Slider extension. Sticky Ads extension. Finally, the Ad Tracking extension. That would be useful so you don't need to log in to your affiliate portal like Share-a-Sale or ClickBank as often.
What about glitches?
Ahem, no plug in is perfect. A couple of times the editing screen got hung up but I think that was my browser that did that. Also, on rare occasions ads fail to display on a page. When I refresh the page then poof, the ads reappear. Again, I think it's my browser that is doing that and not a plug in bug. I'm using the new Edge browser and it has some annoying bugs and glitches. At this point I would only give Edge 3 stars.
This plug in works well for me.
My site is designed to attract repeat daily visitors. I'll bet they will get a kick out of seeing a different ad all the time. The ads display on all my pages but you can configure the plug in to display in selected areas only. There is a way to exclude pages.
You can also display ads in a side bar widget if you like.
I don't because my side bar is reserved for my Publishers Clearing House affiliate link.
Post Script (p.s.)
I had to write this post because my WA rank fell below the top 100. Just kidding. I'm letting my rank fall on purpose. I'm shooting for a WA rank of 1739 by Christmas, LOL.

The Advanced Ads plug in is located in your website dashboard. Go down the left side of your site dashboard. Find the plug ins link. Hover your mouse cursor over the plug ins link. You will get a drop down menu. Click on "add new." This takes you to the WordPress plug in catalog. Put Advanced Ads in the search box. One of the first search results will be Advanced Ads. Just click the install button to get started.
Sounds great Mike, Adsense turned me away for some reason, so will definitely look into this :)
This looks great Mike. I've been thinking that one of my websites looks 'spammy' so now I'll be able to tidy it up. Bookmarked. ~Marion

Sounds awesome! I think when i get around to having affiliate links and such on mine this is the way to go.
I think something that could also help, since not all visitors like/trust ads and banners, is on your homepage for example (depending on what kind of site u run), you can simply have a sentence somewhere saying "All the banners you see on the side are hand picked by me and are products i support, and are there for your benefit as well as mine, if you see something you like in one of them, don't be afraid to click"
Or something, to reassure people.
Just an idea
You have a good idea there. Thanx for the tip.
Great idea of that disclosure.
