I have a few posts on my website now and before writing each one, I researched some keywords as explained in the training. I followed the criteria <300 (preferably <100)
Louise,
Consider other elements:
1. Meta Title,
2. Meta Description
3.. Use Keywords, but also use Long-tailed Keywords
Long tail keywords are longer and more specific than the better known and more conventional “head” keywords.
4. Alt Tag on Images
5. External Links
6. Internal Links
Loes has a great post on a checklist before you hit publish - Checklist before you hit the publish button, 25 points! Hope this helps.
I never use keywords with those stats. I use keywords with higher searches and lower competition (unless the traffic is in the hundreds or thousands and then I may use a keyword with a bit higher competition). I don't know why the training suggests those numbers are sufficient.
It can also take time. Ranking can change every hour of every day. You will have to be patient, but in the meantime I would keep looking for better keywords.
You can generally choose between high searches and higher competition or lower searches and lower competition. The advice given here is to start with the lower competition keywords though they get less traffic. I have used both successfully.
If you are lucky (or put enough time in) you may find keywords with both high traffic and low competition.
You may be doing everything right but your site may be too new to be ranked. Are you sure they are indexed? That’s first step. If they are your posts won’t rank til about 3 months, Google needs time to trust your site so use this time build lots of content with great keywords.
FYI - Searches should be over 50 at least, better at 100+, not 30, that’s way too low, and competition to be less than 50 is best.
Thanks Grace - maybe I am too new atm - letting my impatience get the better of me!
Thank you for the correction :)
No worries, we all don't know these things in the beginning so don't let that bog you down, you're just learning like we're all doing. :)

Can anyone explain something about keyword discrepancies?

On my computer, my website (www.thrivingfelines.com) shows my beautiful background picture of a tiger's face. However, when I check my website on my mobile, it doesn't display
It sees that your website's theme could be at fault. Also check your desktop image to see if the skyline is part of the background of the original image, if so, there is a responsive setting not applied to your image.
This means that the image is so large, it only shows the sky.
First check your theme.
Then check your images to see if they need to be resized.
and review this resource: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2015/11/10/responsive-images-in-wordpress-4-4/
hope this helps
This is probably a theme issue. I would look at Wordpress forums, or contact site support.
Since the picture change from your tiger on PC to the default theme image on mobile, it seems like there should be a setting somewhere that let you define the picture that is shown on mobile screens.
In the theme demo, the same picture renders perfect on all screens, this is the most likely reason.
Just go through the theme settings and see if the solution is there somewhere.
Hi and thank you for your response. I've looked through the theme settings but can't find anything. Maybe I need a plugin?
Thanks for your help - I'll keep searching :)
There should be a setting for that without having to use a plugin.
Or maybe it's an Astrid Pro feature only.
Run your theme through any of these responsiveness testers Louise. https://www.egrappler.com/9-free-web-design-responsiveness-testing-tools/
Hi Mike, I've tried a few of these. They all work on mobile devices but the picture is still not correct. I've submitted a ticket to support so hopefully they can help.
Thank you for your help :)
This sounds like a question you should ask your theme's support forum about. Go to http://WordPress.org and look up your theme to find the support page. Chances are that the question has been asked and answered already.
Hi Marion, thank you for your suggestion. I've tried searching the forums but haven't found anything as yet. They have different problems to me :). I'll keep searching but thank you again.
Hi Henry, yeah I tried Google already but didn't find anything. I've submitted a ticket to support so hopefully they will be able to help - thank you :)

I've listed a few website addresses for my potential visitors to check out if they need more in depth information however, some have automatically turned blue and will open in
With my them they alway turn red so I have to mess around and change to blue!
Do you mean that it has not turned blue or the link does not work
paul
Both Paul - not turned blue and do not work. The others just worked automatically So not sure why this one doesn’t work?
I also have has this and what I did was to remove the link but also look at the text where it was to see if there are any , or . stuck there as this will be linked as hI found on a couple!
Then when all clean first check the link you want to use is working ok and if so then just add the link as you did the others - should work
