The issue of duplicate content seems to be done to death, Google seems to be in that rock and a hard place situation regarding this topic. There are numerous posts and also some training around this issue. It seems that there is no relative penalty if you do place duplicate content. With the advent of social media, the horse bolted long ago, so it is accepted that there will be a certain level of duplicate content on the internet.

It is a given.

Here at WA we have rules around blogging here in the community and for good reason. We should respect that, for the good of the platform and the benefit of the community.

Here are some simple rules for blogging here at WA ( bottom left hand side) on the "write a new blog" editor.

The rules here at WA

I note number two;

2,No copied content allowed to be posted here at Wealthy Affiliate. This content will be immediately removed and you will lose posting privileges.

Just my take on things there is a reason for this, it is about protecting the integrity of the platform for the benefit of all. I may be conservative may be I am. Don't try to spam or scam your mates. unwritten rule.

WA is a special place in terms of the online community and industry lets all work to keep it that way.

The close out; would you post copied or duplicate content on your own websites ?

Yeah/ Nah

Respect the platform and respect your fellow members. Didn't think that I would ever do that.......... but honestly, folks.

It is about Respect.

Sometimes we are in a rush for sure but stop and think about ramifications especially when it comes to this wonderful place.

Duplicate content.... not really an issue with local marketing so long as you use your location modifiers.

Google is a clever sod. There is very little chance your site will rank for the same article above the source.

To answer your question: would you post copied or duplicate content on your own websites ?

Yes. I use copied content to do a couple things.

DISCLAIMER: You must do cite the source! Failing to do so may result in possible legal action. Most likely the author will contact you and demand you remove it.

1. To add emphasis to something I am writing about by showing you that my POV is shared by someone else. Generally an industry authority.

2. By using correct attribution I am letting the original author know that I value their opinion. Helping me build relationships with them.

3. Through this association I build my own authority. Not only in the eyes of the reader but in the eyes of Google too, through coherence and co-citation.

Thanks for the share mate!

Google knows all mwhaha (Evil laugh)

Hi Beau, what you write in the items 1-3 is completely in line with what Google's representatives were telling in a long discussion which I pointed out recently in my training. It will be pity if people overlook these items, you summarized the issue so nicely.

Just one addition about ranking with such duplicate texts: Mueller from Google explicitly says that in principle one can rank higher with a complete duplicate text if (s)he adds some extra value to it. This is in your items 1 and 3. The item 2 covers legal aspects.

Thanks for that additional info Jovo!

Great points!

Rant away friend. I guess we will always have imitators but it's good to remind everyone what works and what doesn't. I can't even see the point in copying someone else's work unless it's for study and you credit the author. Thanks, Alexander

Hi Michael it just adds to the mix my friend and makes for an interesting life, WA is such a good place to be you have raised some valid points my friend. thank you.

This is a good place to be, Alexander, I would never have met you otherwise.

A good reminder to all Alexander, and especially to those new to internet marketing. Not everybody who joins WA has previous experience of working on the internet. And what your post highlights is valuable information for newbies.

So true, very diplomatic Valerie, you are so kind. That is part of the reason and also the fact the strength of WA is that it gives folks to develop in a spam free zone, folks don't have to worry about be promoted to day in day out just concentrate on getting on and moving forward. Thank you Valerie how are you coping with the after shocks.

Thanks Alex, I appreciate the reminder that there are rules in place for a reason.

Hi, Gaylene, they are indeed there for a reason, when you are down the road and you know how things roll it is all good when you are starting out it is a different story. thank you for dropping by.

These boundaries are undoubtedly being tested, Alex. Thank you for the reminder.

High Steve they seem to be, just one of those things, there is the easy way and the super easy way. WA stands for something pretty impressive. worth while protecting.

Thank you Alex for this reminder. This is one of the rules that is broken almost everyday because people want to get their posts done on daily basis. Yet though, I don't think this is acceptable for any given reasons.

Well said, Paul there are always reasons to push the boundaries and that is one of the attractions of the online industry, here at WA we have an environment that gives folks the opportunity to develop in and reach their full potential, free from spam.

Well, I have definitely seen violation of some of these rules, so apparently, we need constant reminders.

I've heard, numerous times, not to spam something. How do you even do that? My limited understanding of spam has to do with unrecognized email. How can someone spam someone's post?

I sort of travel a bit Veronica, one of the best things about WA is that it purports to be a spam free zone which then provides an environment where folks can learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment, plenty of time to jump into the deep end.
Classic the good old original is a can of ham " the original spam."
enter the internet and we have spam, irrelevant or unsolicited emails or communications.
It is a generality, we have some rules that are fairly specific they are there to create that safe environment. Folks don't have to worry about others promoting to them they can get on and create a better future for themselves. just probably over reacting to observations.Starting out and a lot of folks are fragile easily put off their games so WA is a good fit. When we move forward we become battle hardened so to speak, we have a better idea as to how things roll and so we can roll with the punches,so to speak.

'No copied things'--then how about daily wisdoms from literary figures like Shakespeare, Pope, Emerson, Wilde, Wordsworth, Emily Dickinson, Whitman, Hart Crane, TS Eliot . . .

Those items can be used but accreditation must be provided. If it is not already included, as in an image, then add a typed notation beneath the quote.

Hi Margaret, with regards the " daily wisdoms " from literary figures the tendency is to acknowledge the author, I think when we claim it as our own it is a totally different scenario and something completely different. The reference is the placement of copied bodies of text.

well said Valerie thank you.

Thank you Alex for reiterating the necessary rules.

Just starting to see it more freqeuntly Mike. It is easy done, so at the end, do we stand to protect the staus qou, they are there for a reason, thank you.

Thanks for sharing
