The community here at Wealthy Affiliate is such a huge asset to everyone who's a member. Not only do we have the best training platform online for building your own successful online business at our fingertips, but member training adds a whole other level of sophistication to this platform that helps keep it consistently relevant and fresh.

Get the Most Out of Live Chat

A feature that everyone sees right away when joining is the live chat. This is a great place to ask questions and interact with a great community of like-minded people. When I first began here at WA, I loved being able to see people here helping others and answering questions in real time.

And even better, so many times through the day you can find some of the top brass answering questions in chat. Kyle, Carson, and the head trainer Jay frequent the chat regularly, and if you see them, well, be prepared for a very fast moving chat because, more than likely, EVERYONE will be taking full advantage & asking their pressing questions, lol.

It's also really important to understand that there are many new members who watch the chat but don't necessarily jump into it. Maybe they're shy, or maybe they just want to observe before jumping in, but they still benefit from seeing questions asked and answered.

Offer Help Like Everyone is Watching

You may have a referral watching the chat go by while you're answering someone's question. How great would that be for them to see you helping someone else? It is so powerful to see that the person who referred you is truly here to help. That may be all they need to decide to stick with WA for a lifetime!

For this reason it's always important to keep in the front of your mind how you handle yourself in chat. Respond like a room of your referrals is watching you. Many times they are.

I remember specifically a time in chat when, unfortunately, another member was basically going on a rampage, lol. They were obviously upset and frustrated and, hey, I get it. I did my best to help and answer, but it just wasn't good enough. I didn't let it bother me, and I wished them luck and went on to helping those I could.

I got a PM minutes later from a referral. She shared with me that she had been watching the exchange and that specifically because of how I handled myself in that chat, she was ready to go premium. This blew me away.

That's when you realize the importance of how you conduct yourself. Can you imagine if I had gotten frustrated with the other member? Can you imagine if I had been arguing?

Sometimes people jump into chat frustrated over this or that, and the key is to try to diffuse anger and frustration by offering sincere help. And hey, if someone doesn't want your help or if they have a completely different viewpoint from you and feel your answer is wrong, that's not a problem either, right? It's all about moving on, being courteous, and accepting that everyone has their opinion. Respond like Kyle's watching you, and move right along :)

Using the Smart Search Bar

Many times a questions gets asked in live chat and another member will answer by linking to some great training created by another member. You can find training and blogs that answer your questions sometimes by simply using the smart search bar at the top of WA. In fact, I tend to go there first before I ask my question in chat.

Take full advantage of this feature. So many times the answer you get from another member is one you can find even quicker by searching up top.

Don't Spend HOURS in Chat

One last point to offer here is that it's important to not get LOST in chat. I'm adding this paragraph only because yesterday in particular every single time i popped I took a break from writing i saw the same person dominating the live chat. I'm talking from morning to night. Like for 12 hours. We're here to build a business, right? Don't lose sight of that. Everything in moderation.

A great post Eric. Thank you.
I've haven't done much with chat. I have helped a few people who've been grateful. But, to get involved in chat is not so easy at times.
To start with, I wasn't sure how to get involved. Advice was to enter chat and ask does anyone need any help. I tried that with little or no response.
I'll give another try and see how I go. Part of Kyle's super affiliate training is to spend 20 minutes a day in Chat!
I like your mention of referrals could be watching. That is something to seriously take into account.

Absolutely, Valerie and thank you. It's definitely important to jump in and reach out to help. And sure, sometimes the chat is going fast and people are asking and answering, so if no one jumps out to request help, I usually just answer the first question I see and go from there. It's awesome for new members to get that kind of live feedback to their questions.

Thank you for the support!

My pleasure Eric.
Thank you :)

Great post. Thanks!

Thank you, Holly! I appreciate it!

Good post. It points out that we have some of the best training in the world literally at our fingertips to use and to help another member.
Jerry

That's the truth, Jerry! Well said and thank you!

Thanks Eric. Good points. I haven’t really got on to chat because it moves so quickly. Perhaps I should give it a go :)

It does move quickly at times. Nothing wrong with sitting back and just observing too. It's a tool you can use however you like :) Thanks for the comment!

Very good points Eric. Thanks.

Thanks, Mikael! I appreciate it :)

Great blog Eric, but I am still not comfortable in live chat, it goes way too fast for me

ha, it does go fast sometimes right? I'll be answering a question and someone else answers it then the person who was originally asking the question asks a second and I'm like "where am I?" lol.

Quite right, often I can't even read the question properly, it's going down to quick

It's this new generation of super fast info and little to no attention span, lol. They shake their heads when we say it's going to fast haha.

I look to the other side, according toy mom, I am fast as lightning;))

Great thoughts Eric, many thanks :)

Thanks for the support, Chrissie!

No problem Eric :)

Eric, thank you for sharing this informational post!

Glad to share, Louisa!

Thanks for the blog, Eric. I have not visited the chat room since I joined the WA community. I think Ishall now visit it, just to listen in at first before I can venture into a conversation.

All the best
Mojalefa.

Don't be afraid to jump in :) There's plenty of people helping each other and that's what community is all about. Thanks for the comment!

Hey, Eric. Great post. I agree we need to think and send a PM if it's more appropriate. I goofed up on that myself this morning and apologized right after to the chat. Rant in private is my new motto.

lol that's a good one! Thanks for the comment, Steven!
